I would add one more step, a fresh water flush in the direction that is backwards to the air flowing using a garden hose nozzle after the hot soapy water bath. Great video! Thank you!

Another option that has worked well for me are the filter skins. I put them over a clean filter and throw them away after a 2-3 rides. They are cheap and I don’t notice a loss of power using them

i just have a bucket with strainer always left full of any good brand filter cleaner but i drop 3 in at a time. for 15 mins or over night then off the the big laundry sink full of warm/hot water with laundry detergent where they soak again, then i just run each one under warm to hot water again to get the soap out and let em dry. been doing that for 20 years. glad its basicaly the same way you do it

Laundry sink, are you crazy! You use the kitchen sink, your mom or wife loves it when you do that, especially when you prewash in the shop with gas! Been doing it that way for 40+ years! My mom loves me and so does my woman! 🤣😍

Maxima FFT. Is blue. Not sure why Jay didn't name it, but i can almost guarantee thats Maxima. Goes a long ways and works well. Used it for about 17yrs on many different bikes.

i cant find help on this anywhere. once the air filter is oiled, how long do you leave it out before you put it back in the bike ? does it take a couple hours to dry and then you put it in ? or can you put it in straight after youve massaged out the excess oil ?
@RandyFnRhoads

hey i have a question. when i oil my air filter it doesnt become sticky or something. i use putoline air filter oil so it should be good right? i let my air filters dry for a couple of days and even on new air filters it wont become sticky but it just stays wet. do you know what could be the problem?

I never oil it on the inside and ride in super dusty conditions in sand. When I replace the filter, it's squeaky clean on the inside.

Have read gasoline works too, is that a viable solvent or does it ruin them?
@chihuahuaverde425
@chihuahuaverde425 Жыл бұрын
Lots of discussion about this over the years. It seems to ruin some brands, the glue in particular. A safer option is kerosene or mineral spirits.

Exactly. You spend 3x more for the filter and $5 in solvent, cleaner and oil to do it this way, plus the time and mess. No thanks, one time use filter is $10

I buy the maxima pro filters as well. Picked up a bottle of FFT as they do seem to not have enough oil on them sometimes. Only have to add a little bit so it lasts quite awhile.

Just curious why do you oil the inside of the filter? Seems a bit much. Outside oiling is going to seep through to the inside anyway

Man I love Jay and look forward to his vids. He is the man. Period. But dang I found this method to be be very inefficient. Gotta say no-toil has been the way to go.
@__kvik

@@rdbs505 Perhaps the proposition of replacing these elaborate and well thought out cleaning systems that you developed over the years to suck a tiny bit less, with just chucking your filters into the washer sounds too good to be true. There's enough snake oil to go around in this market, so it's kinda understandable that people are careful about experimenting with a high-risk system such as air intake filtering. Then again, No-Toil has been around for a while and I doubt you can produce hard evidence to support that its subpar in performance to petrol based products. I for sure don't miss having to deal with gallons of nasty ass liquids in various buckets, cleaning, filtering, not to mention disposing of it all... If I had to go back to that I'd either quit riding or just buy a new pre-oiled filter every time.
@ryanoborn602

Not sure I can agree with you on no toil disposable filters if you don't change often and ride in dusty conditions. Those filters are pretty thin. Maybe good for a ride on a watered down track.

I used to use No-Toil until it started to break down the foam on the filters. The foam literally disintegrated on the filter. It happened on a UNI and a Twin Air filter after less than a year of use. I even had one clean (and No Toil oiled) filter that was stored in a Zip Loc bag that was stored for future use come apart when I took it out of the bag. Never had that problem before. Switched back to FFT and haven't had the problem since. The FFT is a bit harder to clean, but I don't have to worry about my filter coming apart and getting pulled through the engine.
