Some of the best training I ever went to! Keep up the good work and more cowbell from Team Rick Flair!

Haha no worries. Which branch are you planning on joining? Each branch goes to a different preliminary course before going to eglin and that's the first major obstacle. A big part of making it through the school house is learning how to take in a lot of information and not being overwhelmed. They say that it's like trying to drink for a fire hydrant. At least for the air force guys PT (at least when I went through just a few years ago) was a lot harder at prelim than it was at eglin.

Sweet! Yep, you'll do 20 days at Sheppard (after like a week of in processing and all that jazz) and there you'll PT in the morning. There isn't really a set study time there but toward the end there will be more time to study and practice various tasks they test you on. Sheppard is really an extremely condensed version of the school house. Lots of written tests (fill in the blank and multiple choice) in the first week and more hands on type tests the rest of the time. There are also physical milestones like timed runs and rucks. At the school house you study in the morning. I guess before I went through it was optional. It wasn't optional when I was there. Two hours is plenty of time to study before hand as long as you don't burn yourself out. Remember it's a marathon not a sprint. When I was there I think we started around 0530 or maybe 6 but don't quote me on that. There's time for breakfast during study and a break for lunch. After they released us we would go to the Det and get ready for pt which was from 1700 till 1800 or 1830 I don't really remember. After that The night is yours to eat dinner and unwind. For most of us it was important to use this time to think about anything BUT school. Again just relax and don't burn yourself out. I graduated 3 years ago but things are ALWAYS changing there somehow so don't be surprised if your schedule is a little different.

No worries man! It's good to ask questions because a lot of people don't know exactly what to expect after signing the dotted line. For me personally, I was 24 when I joined and had a few semesters of college and had worked as a pipefitter for about 6 years beforehand. I think that the hands on experience of construction helped me out quite a bit but it is different for everyone. As far as cross-training goes I wouldn't advise it if you can get an EOD contract from the start. If you don't make it through school and get re-classed to another career field you could have a pretty good chance and trying again latter on. I know a few guys who have done it and said it was a lot easier for them the second time but only because of the previous knowledge they had from their first go. Realistically, you know the most about yourself and the way you learn and what your strengths and weaknesses are. I HUGE HUGE part of going through the school house is balancing confidence with humility. The instructors tend to be more merciful to those who admit their mistakes, learn from them and keep trying their hardest. Likewise they tend to be more harsh on people who are cocky and arrogant. Personally I would advise against joining any career field with the mindset of cross-training just because it might make you miserable for the first few years before you get the chance (and because you don't want to be a filthy mud blood once you do earn the crab haha).
