Yep, you got this on the spot. Obviously by the time you have made it to the board its crunch time and a lot of people are not used to this style of interview. Prior enlisted members get the benefit of some knowledge of what to expect coming into the interview but the fact is the officers are not biased towards your dress uniform over the College student sitting before them. It is all how you carry yourself. Even how you walk into the room and sit down is all being graded. If I can give one piece of advise it would be to find someone to help you with a mock interview.. either a recruiter or even family members. Have them film you so you can look at the things that you're doing. Nervous ticks, or saying umm, or ahhh. Speak clearly, confidently, and if you don't have the answer to a question or fumble a question just simply say. Sir/Maam- I don't have that answer at this time but I will work to find that answer for future reference moving forward. idk just my two cents.

Yes, everyone is coming in with a degree. But unless your going in as a pilot, what degree you have may be an advantage or disadvantage.

Hello! Thank you so much for producing these videos. It’s been so helpful to gain more insight about the AF. I am actually in the process of applying for OTS and taking my AFOQT in January. Just want to get some advice and help. I am a little nervous if I don’t pass the test after all my attempts. Can I enlist instead? Thanks again for your time! I appreciate it!

I would assume you could still enlist since it’s 2 completely different test. However, I’m not a recruiter so I would reach out to one and ask them that. Good Luck on your journey!!!

Thanks for this video. I'm currently putting my package together for the April board. I'm in the same situation as you; I'm currently enlisted, already passed the AFOQT and now putting the package together. Any further advice on the interview process would be very helpful. Did you read any books to help you with the interview as well? If so, which one. Thanks sir! fly, fight, win!

Awesome!! I would try to reach out to any officers you know and see if they have sat on a selection board. That really helped me by getting multiple perspectives from them so I felt more well rounded and prepared for questions. I know it’s hard, but be confident and relax.

Is there a minimum GPA you need to apply or is just having a degree with a passing AFOQT score enough? I am in the Air Force as enlisted right now and have a bachlor's degree with a 2.8 GPA

I don’t believe there is a minimum. Of course, the higher the better helps.

Hey, Andrew - Thanks for the video, man. I am prior service, who was honorably discharged as a SSgt back in 2019. I got out to pursue my MBA in finance and try to the civilian world. Now, I am four and a half months out from finishing my MBA and have decided I still want to serve. I just passed my physical at MEPs, studying for the AFOQT for the second time and waiting for the board that is coming up this summer. Originally, I took the AFOQT and met minimums while I was AD; however, I did not study and just took it blindly. Now, I am seeking to do well enough to become a pilot or RPA pilot for fiscal year '21. Working with recruiter right now. Anyway, I bought the Barron book, "Military Flight Aptitude Test." Any other advice on books, or websites to follow while studying? I plan on taking the AFOQT at the end of January and then TBAS following that with my flight log book. Thank and Happy New Year, Christopher "Larry" Madaris

So where are all the highschool/college recruiters for commissioned ranks in Public Health and/or NOAA? (EDIT ADD: uniformed service can be alluring but not everyone is hyper focused on the military aspect)

What if you have no leadership experience
@BrokeManFinance

Leadership experience isn’t required, but you should have qualities and examples to provide them during the interview. Just because someone has leadership experience, that doesn’t mean they were or will continue to be a good leader.

Just curious what kind of "board" this was? Typically, these decisions are made at HQ by a panel of colonels reviewing your paperwork and never meeting you in person........not by some major, capt, and LT

@@BrokeManFinance Were you rushing a guard/reserve unit for a pilot slot? Or were you already enlisted trying to get your commander to send you to OTS? I haven’t heard of a requirement to otherwise meet a board for active duty-off the street. Maybe have to meet with an ALO to go to USAFA or for an ROTC scholarship, or see a recruiter to put together a packet for OTS. But maybe things are different now.
