One of the things I never hear people mention is that when you go apply for the Air Force, whether reserves or guard or active they will ask for a copy of your credit report. If you have any collections get them paid off well ahead of time. Luckily I had nothing, but my buddy who applied at the same time with me did and it held him up for awhile.
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve mentioned that in a couple of my videos. It’s for applicants 23 or older, or for applicants who are doing top secret jobs. But yea, if you have anything on there that flags, you will require a financial waivers. They’re pretty simple to get cleared.

I’m between the guard and the reserves, however with the flexibility of being able to move states, I’m very appealed to join the reserves. I am interested in qualifying for the VA home loan, and to reestablish my credit.
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 3 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind National Guard members and reservists are eligible for a VA home loan if they have completed at least six years of honorable service, are mobilized for active duty service for a period of at least 90 days, or are discharged because of a service-connected disability. A home is a great way to establish credit. A car loan is too if you wanna start small. 💪🏽

AF Res and Air Guard jobs are based on unit mission, the smaller the unit, the smaller jobs available. If the unit is at 90% manned, the smaller the jobs to choose from.

Congrats and thanks for watching. 💪🏽 They have active positions, but those usually take a little while if service, before you can snag one. I would not recommend to quit your job, until you’re guaranteed an active position. Just be patient and I’m sure something will shake. Good luck.

Tell me if I'm wrong. I'm currently working full time at Amazon. If I was to join the Air Force reserve and go to BMT and tech school, Amazon would be required by federal law to give me leave/time off while I'm gone, weather it's 3 months or 5 + months and give me my position back once I return. I live 20-25 miles outside Tucson AZ so a local base close to work and home wouldn't be a problem as Davis Monthan AFB is located in Tucson Arizona

I’ve watched a yt video of a woman saying the Air Force is paying for all her tuition (which is very expensive) and she’s in the reserves. Is that true? I want to go to school but also be reserved but does it help a lot financially?
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 3 жыл бұрын
The reserve pays $4,500 a year in tuition assistance every year. They have the Montgomery GI bill reservist use to cover the rest once they reach the max of their tuition assistance. The reserve only pays part time because you work one weekend a month, so you’re not gonna be making the best money, but you will have really good education benefits.

i'm joining as an E-3 and on the 2023 pay chart it is $301 for 4 drills and thats 2 drills saturday and 2 drills sunday. So if i'm understanding it correctly, I will get payed $301 a month for all 12 months essentially meaning I make $3612 a year (before tax I assume) from the AF Reserves on top of my civilian job pay. That seems awfully low but I guess its not bad for one weekend a month.

For the TR, IMA, ART and PIRR programs in the reserve. For the IMA program, can I serve more than one month within that year? Say I do January and want to do April. Is that allowed? Am I able to ask to assigned overseas somewhere different each month? Is the IMA available to nurses/ medical officers?

I’m not familiar with those programs in detail. I’m active duty, so I don’t wanna mislead or misinform you. My recommendation would be to reach out to a reserve recruiter and see if they can better get you the right answers. Sorry I can’t help.

What if you already attended college and completed with a B.S. degree and I have school debt? Will I get help with paying that off. Are there housing assistance?
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 4 жыл бұрын
Talk with the recruiter and see if they do any student debt pay off. I know active duty doesn’t do this at all, but the guard has different benefits than Active Duty. Guard and reserve doesn’t do any housing assistance either, unless you have any active position. Once you have the active position, you get all the active duty benefits. Unless it’s an ART (Air Force reserve technician). They pay a full time check, but it’s on a GS scale, not military active duty pay.

Hi there, im really interested with AGR!! I’m planning to join the Air Force Reserves... I’m a Prior Service applicant.. I was a US Navy Culinary Specialist (E5) for 6 years and 7 months.. just finished my contract last 10 SEP 2020...my question is are there lots of AGR Opportunities for E5 in Services (3F1X1)? How soon I can apply to an AGR position once i enlist in the Air Force Reserves? Thank you in advance!
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 4 жыл бұрын
The AGR positions differ from location to location and so do the jobs they have available. My best recommendation for you would be to talk with your local Air Force reserve recruiter, and some of the surrounding areas reserve recruiters and see what they have available. You can find reserve recruiters using the Aim High app. Once you download the app, down in the bottom right corner, there’s 3 dashes. Click on that and on that screen it will have an option of find a recruiter. You can input your zip code and it will tell you who the active duty, reserve and air national guard recruiters are for your location.

What is upgrade training and in the reserve on avg does it take to complete prior to being eligible for Tuition Assistance?
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 3 жыл бұрын
Upgrade training is the training you do to become better at your job. Once you complete tech school and return to your base, you will have more on the job training that will take about a year. During that time you can request to go to school, and your supervisor can either approve or deny. The only time they deny is when you’re not performing well at your job.

I’m sorry to ask this questions please. Thank you Jody 1. After serving active duty for 6 years can you switch to reserve or air national guard to have time with your family 2. Active duty for 6-8 years . How many times and how many countries will you be deployed to? 3. Is the salaries for the active duty and the reserves or air National guard the same 3. Is the benefits for the active duty the same as the reserves ?
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 3 жыл бұрын
You can switch to the guard or reserve at the end of your contract, as long as all of your records are good. They won’t take you if you were a terrible airman, or if you couldn’t pass PT test. But a lot of people in the guard and reserve come from active duty. To say how many countries you’d be deployed to is unknown. In my first 6 years, I was only stationed at one duty station (Hurlburt Field, FL), but I had been deployed to the Middle East twice, and had been on Temporary duties to Canada, Italy, Spain, Greece, England, and Germany. Not everyone’s experience will be the same. Some never saw places like these in their first 6 years, and some saw more. So I can’t say what your experience will be like. Active duty gets paid full time checks. I made a money video about it recently. As far as guard and reserve, they only get paid part time. Unless they’re on active orders. But most likely you’ll only get paid for the 2 days a month, and not have the same benefits as Active either, because you’re part time. Guard and Reserve benefits vary too. Reserve benefits will be the same everywhere, but guard is different from state to state. I hope this helps.

I’m interested in the Reserves. Do you need to be at least an E-4 to be in the AGR? Or rank doesn’t matter as long as there’s an open position available?

I’m in the active duty, so I’m not an expert on the reserve, But I do believe AGR positions are based on availability. Talk with your reserve recruiter, they will have a solid answer and be able to show you the likelihood of getting an AGR position. I hope this helps.

Air National Guard actually has better Educational benefits if you enlist for 6 years. With ANG you get to be an E-3 right out of boot camp, you get the GI Bill AND depending on what state you live you could ALSO get up to 100% college tuition to a state school.. Air Force Reserves will give you the GI Bill but not the state tuition. The reason the ANG gives you the state tuition is because you serve BOTH your state and the federal government.

Agreed. But like you said it varies state to state. Some states have amazing education benefits, and others are meh.

@@Jodywithawhy Yes. I did active duty only to realize later on that could have almost the exact same educational benefits in the Guard. I did the palace chase program and was able to fulfill the rest of my commitment in the Guard. Big difference in duty requirements between Active and Guard. I would say if someone is in it for the educational benefits, do the Guard. If someone wants to make more of a career out of it, then do Active duty. Kind of depends on your goals in life. I wish I would have known about the Guard earlier!

I’m actually applying for a Guard position now. 😬It’s an active spot, but I’m doing it so I can retire in Texas. I agree with you though. If you’re strictly looking to get tuition paid for, the guard or reserve may be the better option than active duty. Sometimes people are just unaware of their options.

@@Jodywithawhy yes. Those AGR positions are really good. You get points towards retirement and can work close to home....there's also air technician positions that pay more, but points don't go towards retirement.

@@Jodywithawhy Good luck to you. In the long run the military benefited me tremendously. Helped take care of my college and I moved on after I got honorable discharge to a good civilian job. I'm sure it will do the same for you likewise if you put a lot into it.

Yep. TA pays $4,500 a year as long as your active. No matter the education plan.
