I love your channel, I’m 15 years old and my dad and grandpa were both firemen in the Air Force. I’m going to join as well but I want to be in the security forces , I’ve always wanted to be a cop and I’m the military so this way I can kind of do both. Love your channel and thank you for your service.

I am currently active duty supply. My contract is up in 1 year, would the retirement still be at 20 years total of service if I switched from my 4 years active into 16 years ang? Also Is the transition easier than a new recruit ? Such as being supply already can I just go straight into a supply position ?
@Jodywithawhy3 жыл бұрын
You’d still be eligible to retire at 20, however you won’t be paid the pension immediately. You’d have to wait until you have the required numbers of points before you can start receiving you monthly pay. I dropped a link below to help you understand better. As far as jobs go, you’d have to talk with the in service recruiter, and see what jobs are available. Most likely they’ll let you continue doing the job you currently have, as long as they have a position available. If not, you might have to cross train. Orrrr.........become a recruiter. Lol. 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 those are active positions in the guard, and you’ll still receive all of the retirement benefits as if you were still active. Something to think about. www.thebalancecareers.com/reserve-and-national-guard-retirement-pay-system-3356865

Jody I have a question. I’m thinking about going on active duty instead of the reserves. I live in Miami, FL and would like to get the hell out. If I go active while being married and let’s say I get stationed in Tennessee but my partner can’t come with me due to his job (he has to stay at least a yr in Miami for his upcoming promotion job) how will this work? Will we still get the BAH since he is still living back in Miami and I’m stationed elsewhere? If I move and he can’t come with me, how will this work? I don’t mind living in the dorms but since I’m married I’m confused. Please let me know! Thank you thank youu!

You gotta talk with your air guard recruiter. Different states have different benefits. Some can pay a piece of your loans, others won’t pay anything at all. So just talk.

How would I go about the parent signatures for enlisting at 17 if I'm not able to contact one parent? Its joint custody on paper but I cant reach the other parent.
@Jodywithawhy4 жыл бұрын
You would have the parent you live with write a letter stating the other parent is absent and cannot be contacted. Then have that letter notarized by a notary public. Once you have that, you should be fine.

Does the air national guard give you money for graduate school or only undergraduate?
@Jodywithawhy3 жыл бұрын
You’d have to talk to the guard recruiter and see what your state does, but I’m pretty sure you can use the TA for graduate school, as long as it in line with the undergraduate degree.

My son is 17 and wants to join the Air Force. His main goal is to earn a degree in criminal justice and to serve. What program would you recommend to get the most of the benefits available?
@Jodywithawhy3 жыл бұрын
If he’s a junior he can join under the Softbook program. The cool thing about this is he only has to list 5 jobs instead of the not 7-10 jobs. This is only eligible for Juniors in high school. If he’s interested in criminal justice, our Security Forces job will give him criminal justice credits towards an associates degree just from learning his job. So that may be the rest route for what he wants to do. I’d still recommend he do research on all the career paths we have. Good luck.

So do they keep our asvab score in the system? If I want to be stationed in Florida but sign up in a different state is that possible as a AFG?

Do AGR also get to do base tours?
@Jodywithawhy2 жыл бұрын
It’s possible but the Florida base you’re trying to go to, would have to have the job you originally got in your previous state. I would recommend call the Florida base and let them know your situation, and ask what they think is best. Also, ASVAB scores are in the system and lasts for 2 years.

What are some of the differences in the medical benefits?
@Jodywithawhy3 жыл бұрын
For the guard and reserve, you can get tricare reserve select. You pay a premium every month for coverage and also have a catastrophic cap that you have to meet. Active duty everything is free for you and your family. Except for dental, you have to pay a monthly fee for family dental insurance. Also if your family chooses to use tricare select, you’d pay a catastrophic cap. Once the cap is met, everything else would be free

Question: What are the differences between air force reserve and air national guard? I may have just missed it, but I feel like this video was mainly guard vs active duty
@Jodywithawhy3 жыл бұрын
Biggest difference is the air guard you belong to the state and can be activated by the governor for anything they see fit. Most states don’t care what your Job is they may activate you to do whatever, so if you are finance you can be doing riot control or filling sandbags. Also another big difference is funding. Reserve being federal and guard being state run and federally run. For the guard TA is governed by the state budget and is different from state to state as Reserve is federal and it’s TA is $3750 a year just like active duty. To work full time there’s ART (air reserve technicians) positions you can apply for but I always tell people you gotta have your foot on the door first and you do that by being a traditional reservists. Guard has full time positions too. Just gotta get your foot in the door first. Individuals typically weigh three factors when choosing between the guard or the reserves. The first is reporting location. A guard component may be nearer home than a reserve duty station, or the opposite may be true. The second factor to consider is to ascertain which option offers the chance to work in a particular job or field, as not all units offer identical jobs or have simultaneous vacancies. Lastly, the individual should consider any special benefits offered on the state level for guard members to determine whether the match between the individual’s needs and the state benefits is relevant.
@ceuser35553 жыл бұрын
California national guard benefits suck. It’s almost nonexistent. Other states probably have better state benefits.
@Jodywithawhy3 жыл бұрын
I’m not too familiar with them except for what Sgt Acosta covered. I do know they vary from state to state, and some states reign supreme over others. Lol
@ceuser35553 жыл бұрын
@@Jodywithawhy just basing from a simple state specific benefit search that you can google. I looked at their list of state benefits. If it were CA, I’d rather go reserve than guard as the state benefits are not worth the hassle.

Look at surrounding states too, with a base close to you, and see what their benefits are. That might be a good option for you too.

It really depends on what you need in life. You may want to see a recruiter from both sides, and explain your situation. Then based off what they say, that can help you decide
