In an interview with MEE's reporter Azad Essa at a New York City vigil to pay homage to Aaron Bushnell on Tuesday, Kate, a US Air Force veteran, expressed her grief.
Kate shared her experience pointing out that people leave the military with “a large moral wound, moral injury” because “they knew they were part of terrible things.”

Very brave to come out in support not only of Aaron, but also for recognising the true reason for which many join the US forces. I hope more, not just veterans, but also active duty members of the US military will at last say STOP to all the warmongering and finally build lasting peace all over the world.

That's where things get interesting. It's possible that Air Force OSI is already responding to airmen that show any kind of empathy for "the enemy." I'd imagine their mission to seek out those with empathy is a mind bending look in the mirror. If they are persecuting those that would help them, rather than kill on command... Are they not the "bad guys" in the bigger picture? How can OSI be any good at their jobs, and fail to see the big picture? Hiring increasingly narrow minded airmen is increasing the bigotry and racism problem that existed in the Air Force since conception. Remember, the military had to implement racial integration... Before, they enforced it. There are plenty of opportunists in the military who would cross the picket line set by the humane. That's probably why some of the most craven and incompetent rise up the ranks, while the good are forced out or marked as traitors. People that denigrate him for associating with socialists are attacking him for his economic views, not his patriotism. The profit motive is the adrenaline that fuels capitalist rage / warmongering.

Look, militaries are valuable and needed. There's plenty of elites who get jobs thanks to their connections and don't contribute in a useful way except to make sure they themselves are taken care. These are the folks who can block advancement for others not that 'hard work' willl be useful for the poor and disconnected. That's a bigger problem with most societies, not that someone joined an army. The other key thing is: don't misuse an army.

Almost no one votes for a guy to prevent our children from killing defenseless human beings. While the essence of a soldier is mainly DEFENSE. Love Aaron 🧡

@@charmainecarstens1031 “when they find out the military is not a charity..” That’s the worst most obvious spin job I’ve ever heard. They find out that our military is up to no good. My best friend from high school suffered brain damage from one of our own air strikes in Falluja. He’s still fairly functional and deals with his injury quite well. What he’ll never deal with well, what keeps him awake just to avoid the nightmares, is his knowledge that he participated in the bombing of civilians and the images of dead shredded children that will never leave his head.

USAF vet here as well, she is exactly right, most people enlist for economic reasons, many of the airmen I was trained with were actually recently homeless. The reason college isn't free, and will never be free, in this country is because recruiting numbers would absolutely tank. I could count on one hand how many service members/vets I've encountered in my entire life who willfully joined solely to "serve their country".

PTSD is real and some of our servicemen do suffer from what they've been through. But Bushnell was a weak leftist office nerd to bought into the liberal hype about Palestinians without considering what they did on October 7 to earn the Israeli's undying wrath. Bushnell didn't have PTSD, he was brainwashed by the leftist woke mind virus. His death was a dishonor to the uniform and the US armed forces. He was a stain.

This is an important testimony . It shows how the US citizens who enlist in the military are themselves victims of a country that has produced, over decades, more and more billionaires and totally failed to provide its population with health care and education. For a long time, those serving in the military could hold on to the belief that their work had dignity, that they were doing something morally right but today many are realizing how they were only used and abused. Aaron Bushnell's self-immolation is about the despair an honorable and deeply moral man felt when he discovered what his country was actually ordering him to do.He understood that he and the residents of Gaza were both victims of the American empire. He killed himself in such a terrible way to express his solidarity with Palestinians and expose the utter corruption of the US elites and their accomplices in other Western countries. May his soul be rewarded in the other world.🙏

Aaron is a genuine hero who took a stand against the evils being perpetrated against the Palestinians, and the stand he took for the values I once believed this country stood for. How could anyone imagine it would have been more heroic to agree to assist in murdering innocent children, civilian mothers, fathers, grandparents--a continuation of the ongoing 75+ years slow motion genocide by the squatters that have stolen their rightful land?

A lot of people don't know he was the second American to do this. The first was in December 2023. It was kept quiet, they didn't want people to know who it was, or even if it was a male or female. When I hear Aaron yelling "Free Palestine!" while he is burning, and he also screams and moans in pain, I think of all the people who head their loved ones making the same horrendous noises while they suffered both from white phosphorus, from being blown into pieces, from having buildings on top of them, from having surgeries with no anesthesia and other illnesses, fears, seeing their loved ones harmed or dead, and even suffering from hunger. Humans can do better, we are all connected and can make the world a much better place where all have shelter, food, clean water and air, and peace and we respect and love all life. The old way of stealing and killing is leaving earth as we move ahead each day, the new world is entering right now! Free Palestine, free all of us!
