I think I have a bad relay on my Condenser fan citcuit board. When the fan stops spinning when I touch the circuit board the fan starts and I can hear the cranking noise stop/start on one of those black relays. How to replace this circuit board? Any help please?

Thank you. What I've noticed about all fan boards and all other HVAC boards is that they share 3 functions: input, logic (or process), and output. Thus, one (or more signals) is sent to the input(s), the board processes the inputs, and then sends an output--like a relay closure.. Thus, the troubleshooting process is always manipulating inputs and verifying that the output responds as expected.

Love your videos, but for the lay person, to cut power then disconnect the wires from the relay, then turn on the power again with wires to relay disconnected, would like to see you jump the red and green wire from the inside of the wire covers at terminal? is that what would be done. Really good video and I do thank you

I believe the delay turning off is from those capacitors once they drain.
@boeing757pilot4 ай бұрын
Maybe. The old timing circuits used a resistor and capacitor in series to set the delay. The capacitor discharged through the resistor. The higher value resistor created more of a delay. Now, many boards have a programmable logic module to handle this function...

Question: on one video you said you made the transformer tester the one in this video. I understand all you have done here, testing the relay that operates the blower motor, but is the tester so that you can totally cut the power in the airhandler to make it safe with low voltage? thanking you in advance

Craig what is the purpose of the time delays for turning on & off the fan?
@chriscermak31885 жыл бұрын
Great video Craig. So this the type of board you would encounter on a straight cooling A/H as opposed to the board on a furnace?
@acservicetechchannel5 жыл бұрын
Yes, newer furnaces have an IFC which is an Integrated Furnace Control board. That controls ignition and the blower. The board in the video can also be referred to as an EFT, Electronic Fan Timer, thanks!

Is there a way to isolate my air handlers control board from getting too much moisture in my crawlspace? I’ve had to replace two, one 4 years after it was installed and another a year later. Tech showed me the latest failed control board and it had lots of white powdery substance around a few terminals. Looking for a quick hack until I can afford to purchase a dehumidifier. These control boards are not cheap. Could I put it in a plastic zip lock bag?

I’ve had two of these control boards catch fire and the relay melted. Is there any recall for this problem & can I use an off board relay that would be safer?

I'm assuming that the relay can be changed if it does not pass. What type be of problem would be encountered that would point to the board/ relay?
@acservicetechchannel5 жыл бұрын
That relay is actually soldered to the board so you would replace that one. It is not a plug in type. If the blower runs all the time or the blower does not come on at all, thanks!

Will this cause my compressor to shut off? I've got a heat pump that I'm trying to get working again. Lightning cooked the defrost board, contactor, transformer and condenser fan motor. The compressor is giving a good resistance value
@toupsclassroomtoupsclassro95577 ай бұрын
Summary: Pls tell me if I'm wrong. 1. shut pwr off at air handler. 2. remove wires to relay and tape them away from board and each other. 3. test C and NO to see if no resistance same with C and NC for resistance. 4. Run a jumper wire from R to G test for resistance and level at said terminals. 5. is the relay good and operating as designed. Did I miss anything?

@matty68484 жыл бұрын
Very good video in fault finding etc. Unfortunately we seem to live in a more disposable environment today where HVAC techs just willingly throw away & order a new PCB, which in turn kills skills you easily forget. In my apprenticeship 20 years ago I remember being taught to sit & fault find. Now it’s just a rip everything out and replace society as parts are so cheap, which is good in it saves you time, but you quickly lose your knowledge.

My particular board doesn’t turn off. In other words once it gets energized the time delay for off function does not occur. I could probably fix the board but I don’t have a schematic. It was like $18 shipped. My guess it’s the IC chip.
@Holydany Жыл бұрын
Can someone explain me why the air handler need a time delay ? it is because you dont want your motor fan doing On and Off constantly ? and not because you want to extract all of the heated air in your duct
