Tata is paying ₹18K cr just for the brand name. For all practical purposes, AI was bankrupt airline. Tata's decision was just an emotional one. Anything that has the name "INDIA" cannot be neglected.

8:00 open bidding process: there were restrictions on who can bid..it was not free for all. Like only people who are operating an airlines in india can bid.

@@rbk9915 but it also restricts the people/groups who could bid to probably 4-5. With quite a few of these already under lot of pressure due to covid I am sure this number would have reduced further. Mahindra couldnt bid, reliance birla..or any other indian giant. I remember at some point the staff of AI itself said that could own the airlines.

I still remember the day when AI staff yelled at me and I was shocked as I wasn’t expecting this kind of behaviour from an airline that big. Thankfully she was a lady which stopped me from replying to her. On the other end, just look at Vistara. The worst service ever provided by Vistara doesn’t even come close to a “not so good” service of AI.

If you check AI balance sheet from their website, you would see that total assets of AI as of Mar 2020 were 70000 cr. What i dont get is how come the deal was just for 18000 cr...out of which 15000 cr will go against the debt payments and rest(abt 45000 cr) the govt will bare. It looks to me that the govt said that you take some money and take the airline as well.

Assets doesn't matter , what matters is net worth, AI has so much losses that it's assets value almost become zero , and as said govt has not sold lands etc to TATA, plus method used is EV method nd not others, so based On Ev it seems to be reasonable price

Why not an Indian company like Ambani's. Air India is a national heritage of India and honoring British companies is a colonial hangover. Tata's are from Iran and made their money on the misery of Indians through the drug trade right on River Gangaji. When Indians who ran honest companies throughout Asia where all nationalized and taken over without a penny compensation, when the British where kicked out of India, why do we allow British allied companies to rule over us. It is because of Indian caste system Just like every thing this worst system is bane of our socitey . Parsis are Iranians who were kicked out from Iran when they came to India they were accepted as a mercantile community so they came under vaishya category . If u see all major business houses in India were run by communities related to vaishya category . Due to Indian caste system other communities are stuck with their profession and can't develop a business mindset . U can still see that starting a business get a negative feedback from traditionally non vaishya family. In a big country if business is limited to selected community it is doomed to be poor . The west is rich because entrepreunal siprit is amoung every one But situation is changing in modern times in Gujarat for example the Patel's are now considered a business oriented community but traditionally they are farmers Now even Dalits are becoming entrepreneurs soon u will see hindu community will also do well.

In Christian Europe business is for z long time was operated by Jewish community. Christians see too much money as a vice just like Nehru see profit as a bad thing. But the Protestant movement like Cathars changed that. In India even after 70 years industrialization didn't happen not just because if goverment but also people . Because wider population don't see any value in it . It can be be because of many reasons but the prominent one is caste system which made a huge number of hindu population skeptical of business endeavours. Unlike India and pakistan caste is loose in bangaladesh that's why they are developing much faster as they came above mental restriction.
