I work for a western airline and on flights to India we have indian cabin crew. The crew is lovely and super polite, at least for us pilots, and I have never heard any complaints from the passengers either. The ground handling in Delhi has always been good, in par with most of the international airports around the world. ATC can be sometimes hit or miss, but the airport works in general. It can be done even in Delhi, so maybe it really is an Air India problem.

It's unlikely that Tata will improve Air India anytime soon. Forget the groud experience, they can't even give a damn to retrofit their 787s ans 777s, can't maintain their A350s either (few broken parts were spotted in A350 buisness class). Cabin crew is more of a miss than hit. Food is also below average. Indigo is also equally hopeless now in in flight service. India seriously needs more flag carriers than LCCs to give tough competition to AI and Indigo. Kingfisher and Jet Airways are badly needed now.
@wholiveswhereСағат бұрын
But when everyone just buys based on price in India, the airlines that have slightly better service like Kingfisher and Jet Airways get undercut and go out of business. Apart from the elite who travel up the front anyway, it's a race to the bottom constantly.

I had a similar experience two weeks ago, particularly regarding the ground services. They did not adhere to IATA travel center standards, and the check-in agent provided me with misleading and false information. My trip with Air India ended up costing me extra money, energy, and headaches. I had a very similar issue at the boarding gate as well. The monitors displayed the wrong gate number, and by the time I arrived, the gate was closed. The next gate showed my destination but was actually boarding another flight, so I ended up boarding from a gate marked for Kuala Lumpur. It was a terrible experience, and I will definitely try to avoid flying with them in the future.

Its as simple as communication. If the airport staff do not communicate with the airline theirs your problem right there. My bug bear about airports in general is how they have stopped announcing flight gate numbers and reading it on a board is not the best. The cleanliness and dated interior is a major issue and i think ground staff have to take responsibility for this and the cabin crew.
@davethenerd13693 сағат бұрын
I travel to South West India from Europe so with Air India, a change would be necessary at Delhi or Mumbai to a domestic Air India or other flight. I am afraid Air India is not even considered. The four Middle East airlines (Saudia, Emirates, Etihad, Qatar) are the best way to go. Even through price - I don't know how Air India can charge the same money as Emirates. Saudia are probably cheapest. Interestingly, Nonstop Dan has just released a video and he seemed to enjoy himself but he was in Business class although the ground issues would affect everyone. Josh and Noel Phillips are critical of Air India. Therefore, we can expect a Sam Chui video singing their praises any day now.

Most airlines in the world would treat short distance International flights like domestic flights and it will give us more of a domestic plane experience. From India, flights to Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and to few Arab countries would be more like traveling in a domestic flight. There is a huge difference between the quality, facilities, food, and crew on a Singapore Airlines or a Malaysia Airlines plane flying to the India corridor when compared with those flights flying to America, UK, Australia or Europe. Air India is no exception from this

Only improving the soft product can only bring you so far. Hard product and ground service has to improve too. Ground service, albeit managing Air India, is actually from a third party that AI outsources to, such as SATS or DNATA. The ground experience can be attributed to the poor operations of the ground ops handler and not entirely the airline. While there may be little local competition due to AI being the only full service carrier, international competition still exists which might be what AI is trying to concentrate on at the moment. While I agree that AI has its shortcomings, I do not endorse any of the keyboard warriors in the comments spreading baseless accusations about India without any context or source to back their claims.

recently flew on their a320neo and a321neo on Del-cochin route, food was good on my flight, not the greatest but i would say it was nice enough for a 3 hour flight. the crew was good and hopefully once the cabins are improved the aircrafts would look better as well. on my flight, the seats were clean , the window was slight dirty though. They really need to improve the on ground experience cause i had similar issues, the app sometimes does not work and does not login properly. The on ground staff are not the smartest and don't know how to do things efficiently. Boarding was the worst part on my flight since this was the first time i stood for so long to be seated on a medium haul aircraft. But to be honest, given the price i paid for the flight, i would say it was worth it. Does not feel like a super luxury airline, but the price of the flight was similar to indigo which is a low cost airline so i wouldn't even have gotten a meal on the same price and route.

I lived and worked in India for about 6 months and this is a perfect example of their totally disorganised and random approach to things. I know that there are many very smart Indians who also see what the rest of the world sees and feel the embarrassment when the flag carrier is shown to be such a sh*t-show. What is needed is probably to replace the management for a start, and also implement massive training programs for every stage of the ground experience - the issue with all this is that India in general is really like this pretty much everywhere - disorganised and chaotic. So how do you force those within a large organisation (or maybe that should read "disorganisation") to relearn their ways and fly in the face of a culture that seems to breed this apathetic attitude? Look anywhere in the country and you see so many things that could be fixed/improved/cleaned up - but everyone pretends they can't see it and just ignores the mess. It is against this background that you have to work to fix the airline... I truly wonder if it can ever be fixed.

Well… not really… if you look at it, we could say that this Air India crap is a disgrace for a whole nation.

Me and most Indians in the comments actually agree though. Not sure how you came to this conclusion that everyone will be offended.
