If there ever was a shoe in need of restoration, the Reverse Taxi Jordan 12s that Vick has on hand today fits the bill. These joints are cooked…which gives Vick a great opportunity to teach you all how to do some serious restoration work.
Today Vick will be teaching you how to deep clean the sneakers, unyellow the soles, restore the suede, fix scratches, and repair sole separation. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Jordan that is this beat.
After removing the insole and shoelaces, Vick started the cleaning by using the Soft Bristle Brush to dry brush any loose dirt and dust. There’s no reason to start cleaning with water before this step, because we don’t want to push the dirt deeper into the material.
Now we can insert the Adjustable Shoe Tree and really get after it on this cooked pair of Reverse Taxi Jordan 12s.
Using our water and Sneaker Cleaning Solution, Vick scrubbed down the entire upper and inside of the shoes with the Soft Bristle Brush. Remember; if you’re going to deep clean a shoe you need to take care of the inside.
Moving on to the Medium Bristle Brush, Vick scrubbed down the leather toe area and the midsole before grabbing the Brass Bristle Brush to attack the outsoles. In Vick’s experience, Jordans that are this beat clean up much nicer with the Brass Bristle Brush rather than the Stiff Bristle Brush which is why he skipped it completely.
The last step in our cleaning process is to scrub down the laces and nasty insole, which Vick did with more Sneaker Cleaning Solution and the Medium Bristle Brush.
Considering how beat this shoe is, we’re gonna throw them in the wash. Vick put them in the Sneaker Laundry Bag along with the insole and shoelaces and put them through a full wash cycle with one of our Sneaker Laundry Pods.
Now let’s work on the yellowed outsole. Even though these are solid rubber they still have some signs of aging and yellowing. To combat this Vick applied some RESHOEVN8R Sole Revive and let them bake in our indoor UV Setup until white again.
To reset the nap of the suede Vick used the Brass Bristle Brush across the suede portions of the upper. This is a crucial step if you’ve already put your sneakers through the washing machine. Then, he used a heat gun to remove the creasing from the midsole, a neat trick to remember for next time.
Prepping the leather for paint required some sanding with both 400 grit and 600 grit sandpaper. Once the leather was smooth, Vick did some more prepwork by removing the old glue from the peeling portions of the outsole.
After applying new glue, we’re ready to jump back over to the leather for some fresh paint. Vick used flat black paint to restore the leather and upper portion of the midsole.
On to some detail work. One of the gold eyelets on this pair of Reverse Taxi Jordan 12s is missing, so we want to replace that with an eyelet from a donor pair. Luckily Vick had a perfect match, and used a Dremel tool to carefully remove it from the donor shoe, and glued it into place on our project shoe.
The last step is to apply RESHOEVN8R Mink Oil. Vick sprayed the Mink Oil directly onto the sneaker and used the RESHOEVN8R Horsehair Brush to brush it through the material.
That is going to bring us to an end. This pair of Reverse Taxi Jordan 12s went from beat to heat in the hands of our master sneaker restorer.
Luckily for you, it’s easy to snag the same RESHOEVN8R sneaker care products to restore your own pair of Air Jordan 12s, or whichever shoe you’re looking to bring back to life.
