Air Malta is SHUTTING DOWN!... Paris - Rome - Malta
In this episode, we continue our very long drawn journey from Melbourne, Australia. We say hello to this little airline which never could - the flag carrier of the tiny island nation of Malta. They have mostly been unprofitable throughout its life, and Malta being a member of the European Union means the country can no longer be throwing financial aid at the ailing carrier to keep it afloat without the agreement of Brussels.
The life support will be turned off on 31 March 2024, so we get to fly Air Malta for the first (and the last) time of our lives. What is the last few weeks of this airline like? And what are the plans forward for the new flag carrier KM Malta Airlines which will magically come to life on the same day?

Nice video! I flew this exact route (CDG-MLA) last year on KM, and was exactly as you described. (Thanks to a corrupted SD card, my video of the takeoff from MLA, over St Paul's Bay where we stayed, was lost :( ) Now I'm going to have to watch through your back catalogue!

Oh noooooo... Throughout this series you'll see a couple of drone footages. Thank God I was in Malta for 5 days because my SD card had to be re formatted and I lost EVERYTHING. I had to go back and reshoot everything on one day. Except Gozo, because it was working fine by the time I got there. Yeah will KM was great as KM, but not so much when they were Avion Express.

Mate, I thought your name sounded familiar. I've watched your numerous videos in the past! Funny how as recent as pre-Covid, I was still rooting for QF. Something snapped within me that I can no longer apologise for the shit they serve. I pity their employees the most, because they have to put up with the barrage of unhappy customers. Corporate greed really knows no bounds. Unfortunately my frequent flyer program is still pretty much tied to QF, my ground activities are so intertwined to the program it's not funny. Excellent video, that check in at Malta airport looks chaotic 💀 . That microwaveable lasagna thing low key looked yummy haha. I guess you’d be a far cry from the Aussie Parmis at this point. Have a safe trip around Europe or wherever you’re headed! Looking forward to more videos!

I have worked with Air Malta plc for 33 years and I had experience on portfolio management of Air Malta from June 1989 till May 1997. I have tried a lot not to see this situation but the problems were of high position in management. I found myself very sick due such problems as I had to stop from my responsibilities. I am still without JUSTICE TO MY ACHIEVMENTS IN PORTOFOLIO MANAGEMENT. THIS IS THE WHOLE TRUTH.

I am very much sad because my experience and the good results in my ACHIEVMENTS were never respective and also thrown away by replacing me with much more higher and expensive staff recruitment. I am much more sad with other hurts by high up management that effected my respected brother and MTA know well about them and that's why I am still waiting for JUSTICE.

Very informative and yet enjoyable too . I like Malta , having visited a few years ago , with RyanAir I add . I’m wondering whether the new airline will trade as KM Malta Airlines , in view of the fact that Malta Air already exist and operate , and owned by RyanAir , could be confusing for some . I had to laugh when you said finding Lasagna in Italy was near impossible , I immediately drew a parallel with finding Fosters Lager in Australia . I’m looking forward to the next episodes mate . Must be great to have an airline named after you 😀😀

According to Google Malta had almost 3 million arrivals. Consequently NZ 2.48 Million. A shame Air Malta could not turn a profit but RyanAir is a no frills beast. On the plus side, you would imagine having low costs airlines flying in should equate to more visitors.

Malta, as beautiful as it is, struggles to cope in summer. Their tourist infrastructure is very basic and outside of Valetta, roads are incredibly narrow and windy. There's a lot of political meddling and financial mismanagement within the airline as well.

Air Malta plc has been faced with shut down due to the exaggerated hypocracy that existed in high position of management. I am saying this from my experience in the PORTOFOLIO management and this can be verified and confirmed in reality of the results that I have achieved during my experience and till todate I am still without JUSTICE from the board of injustices of year 2020 of MTA.

Hello Ryan, fascinating KZbin and thank you for all the effort put into these videos. Malta depends on connectivity to survive and the island would be foolish to rely on any LCC in the long term (as they are fickle). So I suspect KM Malta will really just link major European cities and interline with other national carriers. Cannot see KM Malta flying long-haul as, besides the big European carriers noted above, there are carriers like TK (not far from Malta) and EK with huge global networks. And with EK serving Australia I wonder why you never travelled to Malta via Dubai ? I mean for your return to Australia you could have arranged an 'open jaw' ticket.

I don't see KM flying long haul either. A 3-4 hour radius sees them well within reach of African and ME destinations. I'm unsure whether they've actually tried these markets before, then connecting these to Europe via MLA. I remember them flying to Tripoli and Casablanca years ago. I actually did look at EK, but by golly the fares were twice the price. I always look for interesting ways to get to a destination which will then translate to videos for a potential travel series. This Air France combo turned out to be content gold with a QF cancellation, CDG nightmare, and flying on a dying KM. Returning to OZ on Vietnam Airlines was also interesting.

I don’t think Schengen caused the problem… I’ve had Schengen tickets issued in Sydney by Ana staff for a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Amsterdam.

Another fundamental reason confirmation that Air Malta plc was shut due to exaggerated hypocracy in high position in management goes back in March 2020 when one of the highest management had created or invented a policy that effected my beloved brother health who after three weeks passed away. The same person in management after a short period of time had cancelled this policy that lead my beloved brother death, had cancelled this same policy and another staff of the same grade of my brother has replaced the same job of my late brother. This was the most hypocrite person that I have ever met and the reason of hypocracy that lead Air Malta to shut.

Regarding them being unable to issue your Paris to Malta boarding pass - could be an Air France issue many times I have travelled from Brisbane to Bamako in Mali and other locations out of Paris and usually they could not issue the out of Paris boarding pass 😊 and those were also Air France aircraft

I had the same lasagna meal on a recent Air Malta flight..was worse than awful. Would be interesting to see what future KM Malta Airlines have. Only time will tell. Did you know KM stands for Knights of Malta..or so they say. (some say they are the initials of a certain Politian that have sent AirMalta broke)..hehe

Yes but Libya was heavily sanctioned pretty sure air Malta was the only carrier flying in and out until the civil war broke out. I got the last plane out Libyan air /Tripoli Algiers Madrid then London
