@@ottopilot6536 Hi, Joe. Thank you for your thoughts as I probably will just purchase one that is already made. Here's the problem or issue I just realized. Perhaps you can offer insight on it, as I'm reading conflicting articles. A little more background....Currently, I have 2 iPads (minis, which suit me fine in regards to size and availability of space). Both have AM installed and seem to be fully functional in sending / receiving data between each other and my computer. One for the Cessna 6 pack and associated gauges; the other for the radio stack and the smaller GPS (can't recall names exactly at the moment), etc. So, what I've read is that the Knobster will NOT work on iPad version of AM. I will need to pay a monthly (or 1 time purchase of like $245) subscription based software called Duet for that to enable compatibility. To avoid that option, can I purchase the computer version of AM and be able to pop out (as you described) the panels to the iPads for the Knobster to work correctly, or am I needing to disregard the iPad and go with straight touchscreen monitors? Yes, some may think it is "cheap"; but I look at it as being resourceful with money versus options so that I can do more with the money rather than pay more for.... redundancy. In short, what am I, or what is my best option, to do in order to utilize the Knobster - based off of what I currently have? Sorry for the confusion (if any) and rambling on. I'm just trying to give the best mental picture in hopes that I can help you ... help me. 😀 Thank you again. Take care and have a great day. -- Matthew

You're welcome. Glad you could find my content useful. FYI, Mobiflight is stupid easy to use as in there's nothing technical you have to do at all. Installation is a bit quirky, but relatively easy. 1. Download the Mobiflight EXE from www.mobiflight.com . A word of warning - some antivirus detect a false positive on it. If so, you'll need to mark is as "safe". (they've been making this plugin for 20 years. If it was a virus, the community would know it!) 2. Move said EXE file to the folder where it will live permanently (like c:\Mobiflight). It your AV thinks it's a malicious file, you'll have to exclude said folder in your AV setup. 3. Run it. It will unpack itself and start up. 4. Go into the WASM module folder in c:\ Mobiflight. There will be another folder in there. Copy that to your Community folder like you would any other mod. And done. Mobiflight is installed and working. No configuring, messing around, etc required. At that point, you just need to import Mobiflight compatible instruments into Air Manager, set up your panels, and you're good to go. You can get said instruments at this below. Yes, there’s a lot of things the sim shouldn’t do etc as you said, but, the reflections disappearing like that is because that’s how a few of the ways of doing reflections in games and sims are, like screen space reflections which is probably the most widely used way, they are fake, and if the thing they are reflecting goes off screen they disappear, so it’s the standard reflections technology that’s at fault here, not the sim. I know, that’s unusual. 😔 Anyway, nice video and setup, I’m only the touchscreen bit away from your setup really, though I finally managed to get a Bravo. If only there wasn’t a big drop in performance when popping out windows in this sim I’d be all over doing this. Though I don’t think it’s the issue as even popping other Windows like the checklist for example have a big hit even on my high end system, but it might be an idea for Asobo to give us the option of switching off the in cockpit displays like X-Plane does or at least independent control over the refresh rate of them
@ottopilot65363 жыл бұрын
Yeah, screen space reflections work for the most part. It's the best way of faking it atm. However, once they implement ray traced reflections, that will be a thing of the past for those of us with the hardware to support it. And indeed, that frame rate hit popping out windows is annoying. I go from mid 40s down to 30-ish, give or take a few frames. I don't see that being on their radar to fix though. They seem completely focused on stuff that they can roll out on Xbox atm. That critical mass period for sales on Xbox is only going to last a few months, and I don't see them focusing on any PC-specific features until that's died down a bit. I could be wrong though, and really hope I am.

The new G1000 panel in AM is now MSFS2020 compatible, so there's no longer a need for messing with Mobiflight and such to get it to work. And it doesn't give you a new G1000. It controls the G1000 already in the sim. So if you use the stock one, it's rubbish. If you use the Working Title G1000 mod, it's better, but still basic. However, shortly after Sim Update 5 coming Jul 27, Working TItle will be releaseing their G1000 NXi beta that's eventually supposed to completely replace the stock G1000 in sim. Their goal is to replicate the real world NXi as closely as possible in the sim. THat's sometihng to look forward to.

@@ottopilot6536 I can't wait. I'm using Diamond's published POH for the G1000 and am getting confused by some things that don't work in the current WT one. I didn't even bother with the built-in
@ottopilot65363 жыл бұрын
@@michaelhoffmann2891 the current WT G1000 basically still runs the stock Asobo G1000 code in the background. It adds some graphical enhancements, and a few nice extra minor features that improve the overall experience. But it still really the stock unit with a fresh paint job and a few enhancements it's weakness is it still uses the default flight planning code which in all honesty is rubbish. If you look at the current WT G3000, you get a bit more of an idea of what to expect with the G1000 NXi. They've basically rebuilt the whole thing from the ground up, both visually and functionally to get it not quite as full featured as the real thing, but very close. You can even connect to your Navigraph account and show your charts t right on the MFD just like your show your Jeppesen charts on the real thing. Its Achilles heel is that it still uses the stock flight planning system. It's really bad, and it affects all planes with an FMS of some sort. The WT CJ4's FMS is currently their crowning glory. It was totally revamped to be as close to the real thing as possible. It also can display charts. And best of all, it runs on a completely custom flight planning system. And it's awesome. With Sim Update 5, that custom flight planning and management system will become the default for the sim, replacing that dumpster fire we currently have. That should fix a lot of the issues with the various glass cockpits in general. And it lays down the foundation for building awesome avionics in the future. The G3000 and CJ4 are the first example of that. The G1000 NXi will be the next. Then likely the G3X after. From there, it's up to 3rd party devs to build their own. All the pieces will be in place. I've been following the development closely. Outside of the performance enhancements this update will bring, the new flight management system is what I look forward to the most, even if it's really background code that's transparent to the user.

@@ottopilot6536 Now that SU5 has been out - with lots of warts and all - and is being hotfixed into some sort of acceptability, I thought I'd follow up: have you now switched the the early access of the NXi? Successfully I mean? Have you found a way to shorten the setup times to get everything working just so? With my PC shared for other duties and not able to have a permanent sim setup, spending what feels like half the time just getting the sim ready to fly is a real drag. In addition, like others, still keen on seeing a whole end to end description of your setup and a howto for it all. The things I paid close attention to is how often (or not) you still have to use keyboard and mouse. Thrilled to see that you rarely do. I'm still trying to get some basics like setting my currently superfluous rocker switches on the yoke to cover ATC/comms! Flying the DA62 (yes, I know, but I'm happy flying it with a yoke instead of a stick), I finally have most of the other functions mapped to buttons, switches and levers. The missing piece is your dual touch-screen and the knobster. Would still love to see how you did it, to shamelessly copy it! :) One thing about the knobster: your setup used the Arduino nano, yet I saw another video that connected it directly to the PC. When and why would I use an Arduino? Does it have to do with controlling two touchscreens? Finally, what do you use the button panel on your left for?

Why would a touch screen be better than a tablet, bigger screen size ?

Indeed, Larger screen size and more real estate for instruments. I just recently got a pair of 22" touch screens and it's just amazing. I can have panel layouts in real life size for most planes.

You're using an older version of the G1000 bezel in AM. I would strongly recommend 2 things: 1. If you haven't already, go into the in-sim marketplace and download the free G1000 NXi. Even though it's still beta, it's light years beyond the stock one in every way imaginable. 2. Download my G1000 NXi panel at the link below. Replace the stock G1000 bezels in your panels with that. It will work, plus it supports the new functionality in the NXi like VNAV. drive.google.com/file/d/18fzLAXFPIuEPfJoIAHH8eDwdDYodVlAh/view?usp=sharing

In the bezel properties, you have to select whether you want to set it as PFD or MFD. It also gives you the option of hiding autopilot buttons, since not all planes have them on the G1000.

There could be a really long list of reasons as to why it's not working. While Air Manager + Knobster is incredible once you get it working, getting it there can be a challenge and requires a lot of steps. You didn't really give much detail other than "it doesn't work", which makes it very hard to help. - What plane / panel are you trying to set up? - are you using Air Manager 4 Beta? (Air Manager 3 doesn't work with MSFS 2020) - Do you have the Mobiflight plugin installed, and is it confirmed working? (only required for GNS / G1000 / G3000) - Is your knobster being recognized by Air Manager? - Did you activate the Knobster to be used in the Air Manager panel?

If you're using AIr Manager with either SpaceDesk (like I was), then yes, you absolutely can. I mean that in terms that the tech will support it without issue. The other part of this is that I don't think there's an Air Manager MCDU available for Air Manager as of yet. At least not one that I know of. So that would require you to build your own bezel for it. It can definitely be done. As far as I know, Mobiflight has a list of all the events that are compatible with the FBW A320, and last I checked the events list, I'm pretty sure I saw MCDU key commands in that list.
