When you are in Basic Military Training (BMT), you will undergo a Classification Interview. At this interview, you will be rescreened regarding your qualifications and given a list of jobs available in your aptitude area. You will list several jobs in the order of preference and be considered for these jobs from #1 on down. During week 7 of BMT, you will be notified of which jobs you have and when your Tech Training commences. One of the best things about going to BMT in an Area versus having a specific field from MEPS is you may get to see lists of jobs not even offered by the MEPS. Certain jobs are ONLY offered at BMT. For example, many medical and admin careers are booked at basic training. There are some things you will want to keep in mind: -Roughly 65 - 75% of careers are booked at BMT. They are booked based on what the Air Force needs, but you can list your careers based on what is available (available careers must have tech school class seats that coincide with BMT graduation). You will want to fill your list with the 10 careers you can provide and not just put one job down. Here is why. All members who undergo basic training under an aptitude area go through the same process and look for the same jobs. Say you list the same job as five other members. The job will be given to the member with the highest ASVAB score in the aptitude area. If you only listed one job on your sheet, you will be provided a job. - Members are not just given jobs at random. This clears up the age-old rumor that everyone will automatically be Security Forces. There have been times this career field has not been available. - Members will get a job regardless, which will be their job in the Air Force. Pam Air Force and Space Force Recruiting Service

@@USAirForceRecruitingthis was incredibly helpful! Thank you! I’m in the process of joining, I’ve been doing all the paperwork with my recruiter prior to meps. I’m scheduled to take the Asvab on the 7th. I have been inquiring about this topic since I wasn’t expecting to score so low like I did on the practice test, so it’s been a little disheartening on the topic of my career choices and I have a feeling I’m going to have to settle for “open” but I’m dead set on not wanting sf, me being a little on the late side (28 years old) to have ever considered how good a usaf career would have been for me while I was younger.

Because ANG members orders are all laid out before hand, they have to follow a strict “schedule” in terms of getting their training done on time or they risk losing their position, and the state is paying them not the federal.

@@mike2nicceI’m just one of those people who didn’t study. I’m in my early 30’s, maybe it’s an age thing, maybe not. But I simply used my current preexisting knowledge to take the exam. I’ve never been much of a study type of person, sorry I’m not much help for you.

The worst waste of time and millions In tax dollars was with United States Air Force. They promised me high education. I spent 2 1/2 years in training and got kicked out two years later because I was gay. Overall position of leadership was that it was unbecoming of an airman mind you, someone called me the F word and attacked me.
