Just a few notes. That appears to be the 80w fume extractor, which is doesn't have a good charcoal filtering layer to begin with to capture the smells that you're trying to avoid. On top of that you have the charcoal material on the top, when it's supposed to be the last layer that the air goes through. The higher wattage fume extractors that Monport sells do a much better job at eliminating smells, especially when the filters are installed properly.

Thanks for your comment. There were no instructions included with the 80w system, so we just kept in the order it was received. We have gotten a couple of comments with the same suggestions and moved things around as you suggested, it is a bit strange to set just a bag of carbon down in the machine the way it is configured. We gave a feedback to Monport (as we are sure others did as well) and it looks like they have updated their newly available machines. We agree that there are better filters in those now offered and the way to connect the machines together have been updated on the current air purifiers. It does not appear that they offer replacement filters for our machine (we have one more back up set to get us through for now). We will probably need to do some research soon and find filters that we can make work with our model then do a video update to help other people who have purchased the machine looking for replacements.

Thanks for making this video, Very helpful... I just bought one of these exact air purifiers, and I was told that I didn't need to vent to the outside, from an OMTech's sales person. (If I need to still run an exhaust to the outside, I will be very disappointed with the OMTech's Sales Team. -- and thanks for posting your STL files for the adapter.

do you smell anything when venting outside? Im asking because I wonder of something isn't sealed or if the filter sucks. I have one ordered and now ive seen your video and am 2nd guessing my order. Edit? I see you ordered the 80w system and I have the 150 so hopefully mine is better

The 150 will be more powerful and be better at sucking the air out. Because ours isn't a higher powered one, some fumes we can smell coming out of the machine itself. After owning the equipment for some time now, we have found it does help remove most fumes, there is a pretty noticeable difference when we use acrylic, there is still a smell but much less than when the filter isn't turned on.

Just an initial observation. The dust from the carbon filter is clogging the HEPA filter before the filtration system is even used. For the adsorption process to function properly, the carbon filter should be last in line within the filtration system. Airflow should be: Prefilter (to remove coarse contaminants) -> HEPA or MERV 13/14 filter (to remove small contaminants and smoke) -> Activated Carbon Filter (to remove odors and extremely small particles). You need a carbon monoxide detector and other air quality measuring instruments to determine if the filter is actually doing its job. Of course, if you can still smell burning wood or see any smoke, then the filter is obviously not working properly and measuring instruments aren't needed to determine this.

Thanks for sharing the tips, we will have to readjust the filter layers.

Nice review! I'm currently researching air purifier and fume extractors for lasers so your review was very informative. It would be great to see a future follow-up video to see how the air purifier has held up to use. I've some questions: * Since the activated carbon is in a net bag, can the bag be refreshed? * Where can you buy replacement filters? * The purifier looks to draw air through the filters, what's the fan like? I'm wondering if the fan is sturdy and made of metal. * The top pre-filter(?) looks to be REALLY close to the air inlet. Might it be beneficial to increase the space between the inlet and the pre-filter so the air isn't concentrated in the center of the filter?

Thanks so much! We will definitely do a follow up video on this air purifier and look into those questions you have.

I make research on purifier air and seems those compact air extractors and filters are undersized for the job they need to do. For chinese products, we can't find replacement filter on their website and there is lack of information (static and dynamic pressure, type of motor, life-time of filters, ...)

It seems like a complete nightmare to even get the air purifier connected. And if you don't have a 3d printer it's pretty much useless inless you find and pay extra for the connecting tubes. I'll think I'll stay away from that brand. Thanks for the video :)

I believe that Home Depot or Lowes, may have a PVC Plumbing adapter that might fit these two vent sizes? Luckily I have a 3D printer (and also a Maker Space, near by)
