I killed my first Air Quality Monitor last year while spraying, so I thought I’d try and resurrect it with a change of sensor. Enjoy!

Perfectly timed Peter. I'm ordering my sensor after I write this. Note to the viewers, mine packed up from dust not spray as I don't spray! And I have 2 vacuums one dust extractor and an air filter that's suited to a shop 3 times the size of mine. So I would have thought that dust didn't kill it. Interesting though it died after not switching n for over 3 weeks during my Xmas break. That's been my experience. Cheers for the vid.

Yeah, that’s weird. Pretty sure mine was paint-related, but Andy Mac’s wasn’t. They were bought some time apart as well, so it’s not down to a ‘bad batch’. The downside of buying direct from China, I guess, but at least we can get spares! 👍🤷‍♂️

Yes, good to know. I had bought mine after seeing yours in the original video. Then yours quit! Mine is still working but I don't do hardly any spraying in the shop. If I do spray, I will cover the sensor and simply assume that the air levels are bad and take appropriate precautions. I could not purchase the unit from your link because I am in the US but found it on Ebay. Also, I just used mine to compare my new WEN air filtering system with my old DIY fan and filter assembly. They both performed the same! I will use the WEN in my workout area in the house instead of the shop. (Want real fresh air whilst breathing heavy!) Thanks Peter.

One thing I like about buying cheap Chinese products is that everything is modular and can be replaced individually, I can guarantee that if you bought a named brand, assuming the part was even replaceable, it would cost nigh on the same as just replacing the whole unit!

The temperature and humidity sensor is soldered to the main board and is the blue device. It's a DH11. See this link here: www.google.co.uk/search?q=dh11&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiOwrC28b3gAhXH-qQKHYreBnoQ_AUIDigB&biw=1366&bih=629

Any chance of explaining the device figures on display? I have bought one but no manual or instructions, how about a video with explanations.
@10MinuteWorkshop
@10MinuteWorkshop 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I need to do a quick follow-up on it. You've figured out how to switch it to the second screen (the one I show in the video, not the one on the thumbnail) yes? If not, there's a tiny push-button on the side, above the USB power socket. That brings up a more detailed screen for particles, which is what we're most interested in as woodworkers. This screen basically gives the number of particles above set sizes; this is cumulative, of course, so e.g. the >0.3 micron reading also includes all the other particles on show in the lower levels. It's a convenient way of assessing how the air is in the workshop at any time, so you can establish a baseline reading for e.g. 'moving around but not machining anything' then decide at what levels you need to switch the extractors on / open the door / get out of there for a while. That's how I use it, anyway 👍

As always, thanks for the content Peter! I've just ordered one of the devices, does it come with figures on what are safe levels of dust? I'm cutting a lot of mdf and even with dust collection and two vacuums to collect direct from saw and one in front collecting dust blowout from the saw, theres still a lot of mdf dust collating. I've tried to find some instructions online but with no luck on what are safe levels of dust. Thanks if you can help, no problem if you cant! :)
