Look at how Rayco-Granning does their light duty system. A single member anchored at the front and extending past the axle. No axle twist forces. I’m sure you could build something similar.

Just wandered by this video a year late... I've got a shot wheelbase F-450 chassis cab I use for hauling a 5th wheel hydraulic boat trailer and I'll have that loaded up to nearly 30k on occasion, but it always rides like an angry mule, so I've been exploring air ride suspensions. We have a '07 topkick with a Kelderman system and it's nice, but pricey. Your system reminds me a lot of how most big trucks are run with the bag behind the axle but it seems like having a longer single piece swing arm would make things easier.... like ford front ends, but longer. It would make a much better lever arm to counter the rear-mount bags and reduce the number of bushings & pivot points from eight to two. Yes, pinion angle change would need to be considered, but there's plenty of length there to minimize the changes.

Ok, I just saw your new video, putting air ride on another pickup... This one looks like a lot better set up!! I agree, you need to stiffen up the lower arm mounts. If you haven't done it yet, you should go look at a real air ride suspension on a truck. My personal favorite is the older '80s to '00 Freightliner suspension... Pete Airleaf is about the same.. one thing they've done to keep the pinion angle correct, is the front mount is below the frame... Straight line to the axle. Typically, leveling valves are set to ride 3.5" off the stops, frame level. Properly set up, it will be level empty or loaded... Or overloaded.

What pressure are you running the bags at at ride height? And what size air line are you using
@j_moffitt5 жыл бұрын
It has a leveling valve so I never put a guage to check line pressure but with the truck empty I’d say 15-20 psi at the most and using 1/4” air lines

Currently the truck has dual viair compressors feeding a 5 gal tank that then runs to a leveling valve like on big rigs, in the future I’d like to mount a belt driven one using a York style compressor
@MrInnovativeEnergy5 жыл бұрын
You could easily hang the entire truck from that bracket. I've seen a 20,000 pound bridge section held with a single 3 inch long Mig stitch across 1/4 inch plate and it held being craned into place.

@@j_moffitt It was a bet between the crane operator and our welding crew on a bridge job we did. They figured our 400 amp miller big blue using a feeder could not put down a weld strong enough to match Arc or Tig. The lift was an I-Beam section with a single fillet weld across 1/4 mild plate. Crane operator said it clocked in at about 20k pounds. We knew the weld would hold. But it proves welds with good penetration, even on mild steel plate are stronger than you think.
