The best part about this video is the dog and the frisbee. The guy really knows how to throw it! LOL - really enjoyed watching!

Many thanks for this great video - and for all the others you have done throughout the last years, while still keeping your lovely dog happy. Because of the work you and your company put into these videos, I would immediately travel across the UK to buy my tent with you. But low and behold - I live close to Italy.... But I at least subcribed.

Our Vango ventanas 2021 650xl air tent was flattened while camping at st David’s in Pembrokeshire. My nephew in a 12 year old outwell steel supported tent stood up to the elements. It did pump back up, but the really large tents are on the cusp of being too oversized for air beams (like ours). Trying to camp on the coast in calm predictable weather is becoming more difficult. We will have a real close look at Kyham (uk brand) steel poled and slightly smaller air beam tents - plus poly cotton materials. The light ones are great for weight and water head permeability, but really flap about in the wind vs poly cotton.

A combination of steel and fibreglass is a pretty good medium in tent construction. Size to weight ratio airbeams tend to be much heavier compared to a fiberglass tent. My experience with airbeams isn't favourable so I went back to poles as they're much easier to repair.

Having been caught out in a near hurricane (Storm Evert in 2019 - Force 11), I'm kinda convinced that Air Beam is the way to go. Air Beam will NOT take a hurricane, and if it encounters one, it has to be collapsed and staked down, but they can take quite a beating from wind (probably about Force 8-9, even if the manufacturer says Force 7). However, the next morning, it can be pumped right up again and you can start off where you left off and your holiday is saved. If you get hit by the same wind in a fibreglass pole tent, you may have suffered some split poles. Again, not the end of the world, but you will need to replace some pole sections if you can't gaffer tape them up. I would collapse a pole tent at Force 7. Thankfully, repair kits are cheap, and if you made sure you had some spare poles, you can recover the situation. Pole tents give out a lower wind speed than air-beam. Aluminium and steel frame tents can probably resist far higher wind speeds than air beam, but if they succumb, then your holiday is over, and ruined. We once got hit by a tornado in Switzerland and had to pack up and go home to the UK because of the damage to the twisted steel poles.

To your question: As a solo female traveller with back issues, I have to look on how I can pitch a tent on my own. So Coleman´s Ocotogen came to my mind. But this model does not quite fulfill another requirement: Having to be absolute waterproof while not having to shut out any view to the outside should a 2-day-storm pass our way. Nothing more depressing than sitting in your tent and shut in half-darkness / no view anywhere. Which is why I am currently considering an inflatable tunnel tent with enough ventilation on all sides (mesh).

Been really enjoying your videos. I am stuck between two tents and was wondering if you could help me make a decision. I will be traveling around the us for a few months mostly camping with my wife and two young children. The sites can sometimes be a little tight in the state and national parks. I want to get a quality tent that has decent room, but not too big. I am stuck between either the Kampa Brean 4 Air TC or the Dometic Boracay FTC 401 TC. We are planning on using and keeping whatever we get for a long time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for a really useful video. As always! Speaking as someone who is in the market to replace their tent, and who is on the fence at the moment, which of three option would you choose?

It honestly depends on what is important to you and are your requirements. Pack size tends to be a bit of a decided tbh.

Is there a battery-operated pump you can get for air tents?
@AttwoollsCoUk
@AttwoollsCoUk 10 ай бұрын
There isn’t a battery one as such but we do sell a powerbank which has a cigarette 12v socket on it and you can just pump the tent compressor pumps onto that.

After buying my first air tent, I will not be buying another pole tent. Air tent just makes it so much easier to pitch and take down.

Don’t you have to adjust air pressure on a daily basis if the temperature between day and night is more than 10, 15 degrees apart?

Karsten in the Netherlands had air tents at least as far back as in the eighty’s, the concept is much older than what you told and they where, and are very robust.

We actually did use to sell Air tents on the 60’s but it wasn’t really a popular choice back then and the quality was a bit hit and miss. It was until Vango really redesigned the concept in 2011 when it became more mass market.

I heard that you have to adjust air pressure on a daily basis if the temperature between day and night is more than 10 or 15 degrees apart? What about that?
@AttwoollsCoUk

There shouldn’t be a need to adjust the air pressure due to the temperature but as a precaution you could do it if the temperature dramatically increases.

@@AttwoollsCoUk so regarding that, what kind of tent would you buy now?
@AttwoollsCoUk

@@tramac personally I’m a fan of an air tent as it’s easier to pitch and pack away, preferably Polycotton if you have the space and budget for it, otherwise a polyester air tent would be perfectly fine.
