This is a great install video. (HOWEVER) THE TANK IS NOT TO SAVE TIME AIRING UP TIRES. the stored air is a useful tool when using air tools out in the field. I know people will bash your video because OOHHH I saved 15 seconds... blah blah blah. if you would hook up a 1/2 inch impact gun to remove a tire it would loosen 1 lug nut and compressor could not catch up enough to hit the next lug. (trust me ive tried this) but when you install a tank you could loosen 3 wheels before running out of air pressure. a tank is a great idea no matter what any of these negative nancies tell you. people are a bunch of shit talkers and half of them don't do or ever try anything cool just to see if it saves 15 seconds. great channel keep the projects coming.

Ive got a mutt mixed system with kline air horns jeep kit with a 2.8 gallon tank and under my drivers side seat ive got the dual arb pump. My fill times where not much faster filling my 37s up from 8 to 9 psi until I upgraded my hose sizes... that is the one thing that made the most difference. My tank empties very fast but the added capacity is very helpful for all sorts of things. I even use my kit when I'm cleaning up after the weekend, great for auto detail and filling tires... the air horns are a great communication device also

Having a tank vs not having tank is the purpose of this video. Most will just only have the compressor , which is slow and having a tank will speed things up. That’s the point of this video.

Whats wrong leaving air in the system ? Your tires are huge and have air in them all the time. Your gas tank stays almost full with 25 plus gallons of fuel all the time.. whats a tiny tank of air going to do ??

Didn’t really feel too safe with it full. Plus it fills up so quick it doesn’t even matter

It’s more about moisture… without a drain, keeping the air in the tank will lead to condensation as the air inside heats up and cools down. This creates pools of water inside the tank that makes them rust out. The only real advantage of having a tank, is if you can fill the tank with very high pressures, so the air dumps into the tyres fast and speeding up the process. This style of setup only has a real small burst at the start and then its the compressor filling the tank and the tyres at the same time, which over drives the compressor. Not to mention the compressor now constantly running between tyres trying to fill the tank. Without a 100% duty cycle compressor, you’ll end up thermal cutting and shortening the life of the compressor…
@Michael_00001

Air tanks are for train horns. It's silly to use for airing up tires because the tank empties almost right away as it has pressure but no real volume. It's all about the volume of air that the compressor puts out, not the PSI. It's a waste of time and effort. Besides, unless you're a chase truck in the Baja 1000 then what's the rush? Airing up after coming off the trail is always a good time to BS with buddies doing the same thing and have a beer.

chowcares you can get 90s of npt male to npt female on Amazon $8/pair. Then run a short length of 1/4 or 3/8 inch pneumatic hose (also very cheap) and I think you would have an appreciable increase in output. Would be worth the ~$10-15. I would also try using a heavier gauge air hose to fill with, for the test, not that I would carry it with you, but just to see if that is also restricting your airflow. Anyway, I'm jealous of your setup, it will be a while before I get to do mine

Pretty sure the restriction will create more heat at that connection point too…
@olliehopnoodle4628

The tank will help a bit when doing all 4 tires. The compressor continues to run while moving from tire to tire. So basically it reduces the total air up time by the small amount you get initially for the first tire and then the time is take you to move from one tire to the next (assuming you move quick enough that the compressor doesn't stop). Money would be better spent on a 4 tire inflation system with chucks that are off when not connected. You can start the compressor, hook up the first tire and as it starts to fill connect the other three tires. The compressor will run the entire time and since you are filling up all 4 tires at the same time the valve restrictions don't matter because you've split the CFM between them.

is it possible the little tank had enough air to fill one tire and if would have continued with 4 the time would not have been 2:30 per tire and the extra tank at that point would have made things better? would love to see comparison filling 4 tires from 20 to 35.
@chowcares
@chowcares 5 жыл бұрын
HuskyNoob yea I think so too. I think the main advantage would be when I go from tire to tire. That in between time when I’m not airing up, the compressor is still on and charging up the tank. Let me see if I can do a comparison vid soon!

Remove that stupid fitting that has the pressure switch on it . Have a look inside it and see how small the hole is for the air to travel through. I removed mine and put a straight air fitting to hose . And out the pressure switch into one of the air locker outlets . I could be wrong but it seems to have helped with the fitting not getting too hot now too

With very little difference, I would suspect a restriction in the hose or connectors (chuck?) You could check the line pressure at the tank end of the hose and open the line connected to nothing and see what the pressure is - restriction pressure.
@chowcares
@chowcares 4 жыл бұрын
Will check it out. My assumption is the tank is too small and gets depleted quickly. The single arb pump can only pump so fast. I only gain air when I switch between one tire to another

@snivesz32
@snivesz32 4 ай бұрын
Schrader valves on a typical car tire only flow 2.6 cfm. So it doesn’t matter how much air you have or how big your line is, the valve is the restriction. That’s why you must use a multi-tap hose and fill up multiple tires simultaneously to see any benefit from a high flow rate compressor or tank.

The arb single or dual compressors seem fine.. but thats a huge huge amount of money for a small compressor. Rather add a second battery and a large inverter and use a mid size 120 volt compressor. I might consider the air tank under the truck...and weld two brackets on the rock slider with air line coupler bodies on the brackets. So all you need is a ten foot air line that plugs in on each side of the truck.

The opposite… because now the compressor will constantly be running the whole time whilst trying to fill the tank and tyres before getting to cut off pressure and I’m pretty sure the ARB single compressor is not 100% duty cycle, so will likely thermal cut and burn out faster.

hey man, Good vid. I presently have a ARB twin, but mine is for air lockers for front and back differentals. Now I want to add a tank to run pneumatic tools. looking into it and watching your vid, I see something you may consider and overlooked. you have/had 4 openings..you blocked one on the side, one on the bottom and used two for inlet and outlet...AWESOME..YOU GOT IT!. Just one point, that one you plugged on the bottom is for a water drain. Pressure, humidity in the air is going to fill your tank full of water and rust until it reaches the outlet and start to blow out...but that will be some time, meanwhile your getting rust inside your tank.. Suggestion..if you cant work it out to put a water drain and reach it directly on the tank, then maybe undo everything you just did, fit a pressure hose that will dangle down where you can reach it. then have a fitting to screw on your compressor water drain spicket. i appreciated your vid..it gave me some insite to what i am going to do.

Unnessecary cost is subjective. If you’re poor, anything is expensive. Compressed air is handy if you want to use some air tools while remote. The safety aspect doesn’t really mean anything. You’re carrying fuel in a plastic tank under your vehicle, thats far more dangerous than compressed air. Weight is negligible, if its a concern, leave a passenger at home and save more. Compressed air doesn’t explode. The container can fail, but its unlikely. The air hose connecting the tank and compressor is more likely and that wouldn’t result in an explosion, just some hissing.
