Cannot find any longer, but, Sheridan (Was told was the EU branch of Benjamin in 70s) sold a semi-wadcutter w/a shallow base cup & low truncated conical tip. Worked pretty good as a hunting pellet out to 60-80 yds. Those old pumps only rated by manufacturer to approx 800-850 fps, IIRC. Don't recall what slug or pellet weight was, but, many rabbits & squirrels went to a pot from them. Was like dropping mortar shells due range and no 'thru-n-thrus' like at 30-40 yds. Still have that 40 yr old pump, but, who has seen Sheridan Air Rifles or 5mm ammo for them. No matter after near 45 yrs as no compression any longer.

You can get sub moa with FX hybrid or Griffin LDS slugs at 100yards once tuned for max velocity and consistency. Using the chair gun app i set my turret stickers from 10 to 250 yards. Whacked my first pigeon at 197 yards with the wind at my back 5 degrees 2 weeks ago from a cattle fence. I never celebrated a meal like I did that day. Was more exciting than last year's Mule Deer. Mine's a .22, the slugs are a game-changer. Too expensive for target shooting but for hunting they rock. It drops Coyotes where they stand too. Never thought airguns would be so lethal until I got my first PCP the AEA varment.22.

I haven't went hunting with it yet. But I am excited to clear out some raccoons with it that keep getting in the deer feeder. 197 yards thats impressive! Congrats on that one.

Retired Vietnam vet. Powdered burners are way different and it looks like if you're shooting pellets and you change from one style or brand of pellet to another you really need to "season" the barrel. I actually do get some pretty good accuracy from the hunter extremes. I have some felt cleaning pellets and shoot three or four of them down the barrel. Then I use my chronograph to measure the velocity. Check your groups at 50 yards and see what the spread is on the Chrono. Measure the group size and write it down. No turn your hammer spring or your pressure up to pending on where your settings are and repeat five shots. By increasing the hammer spring your extreme spread should be smaller and your groups should be tighter. Depending on where you start and how much you increase eventually you will get to the maximum FPS where the group size opening up. Do this with every piece of ammo that you have so you have the settings that are the perfect settings for that ammo. Don't expect to be able to swap from one projectile to another because they all leave a "signature" in the barrel. The hunter extremes are definitely very good because they will double in size raccoons and coyotes. I've recovered a few and taken photographs. They do a lot of damage on body shots. Round nose is best for headshots unless your angle allows you to get to the heart.

seems you may need to bump Reg pressure back up on the heavy pellets. You Can also try putting in a 1/2 turn of hammer spring (clockwise) & see if that helps. But you really need a chronograph. see if you can get your heavy into the 850 to 900's. When you start trying NSA slugs, you'll find your gonna need to run the gun hotter. A pellet has much less contact surface with the barrel versus a slug. That increased contact area will result in A LOT MORE DRAG versus a pellet. if you think the 33's are hitting low, slugs will likely be worse even a lighter weights. I Don't have an avenger in .25, just .177. The gun is very tunable... example regarding slugs... I can run the reg at 1600 for pellets & make 920 FPS with a 10.5 grn pellet. Slugs require a min of about 2000 psi. Have found accuracy was better at 2200 with about 4 turns of the hammer spring preload. Tuning requires ammo, time & a chronograph but the end result can be worth it... here is 10 shot group from my .177 Avenger using crossman 10.5 grn pellets at 50 yards. Its a pretty good group. Its a hell of a group for a budget .177 PCP! Filmed through my ATN X-Sight at high magnification... kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZmppmeCdtWhitU

Thanks for the reply: Yeah my eagle claw will reach right out to 150 no problem, and likely further if i dial in with strolek app- but it's not real accurate because fps kinda is all over the place-and gotta keep readjusting for sinking fps- I've been weighing getting an avenger .22 for target/bench rest shooting, as the ammo is of course cheaper, and more available, and much higher shot count per fill compared to my .25 (about 35 shots per fill only), but just unsure how sensitive it woudl be to wind due to lighter weights- Guess I'll just get it- cheap enough for a nice accurate air rifle- thanks for the vid and response-

@@truepassionoutdoors5925 i just ordered mine today- be here next week- I'm not the greatest shot free hand shots, or even bench shooting for that matter-, so need practice, and the .22 will be the ticket i think- my yard is about 60 yards long, but i do have a spot to go for further target plinking- can't wait to try it out- Getting a Westhunter 6-24x50 first focal plane scope for it- have a 4-16x50 westhunter on my .25 which i like- anyways- on my .25 i cranked down the hamer spring to where it was shooting in the 630 range, and got 145 shots from one fill lol- but that can get expensive- the .22 shoudl be half price- and less tank filling-

I was watching a segment on You tube. Myself I have the .22 and .25 in avenger. I love them!! The part on the gauntlet 2 it's heavier, less shots per fill only 3,000 psi. The regulator is set at 1,900 psi can't turn it up Like the Avenger. The avenger holds 4,350 psi and about 70 shots with the .22 cal if tuned shooting 946 fps! I'd say the avenger!

I prefer the FX 34 grain for longer distance but the JSB Hades shoot really well also. This is one of the best PCPs out there at the moment for the money imho. I have the 1st generation of the Avenger back when it was called the Nova Vista Liberty in .22 and it is just as crazy accurate also. I shoot both out to 100 yards but mostly 75 or less. The .22 loves 18.13 grain pellets and on a no wind day shoots half inch groups at 75 as does the .25 Avenger. A shooting rest that is solid makes that happen because I can’t do it off bipods and my shoulder. Caldwell lead sled and Caldwell Tripod are what get me my best 8-10 shot groups. Just subscribed looking forward to more videos on this gun.

I saw a fella use marine shrink wrap to replace his probe o rings. He cut two small pieces to replace the o rings ,then cut a piece that covered both o rings and shrunk down and coated the probe nipple. It was an Avenger .25 and he claimed tighter groups. I have a Beeman 1336 that has the same type bolt probe . When my o rings wear out, I’m going to try it.

Do you think this would be possible with the .22 avenger out past 100 yards, say 150, 200? I know the groups won't be as tight, but just wondering if a 200 yard shots are fairly accurate with the .22? Would it be too light a pellet for that distance? I'm looing for a good long range bench firing mostly target air rifle. I'm not a great shot, but enjoy the challenge at longer distances. I have a seneca eagle claw .25, but unfortunately it's not regu, ated like the avenger, so kinda hard to get consistent fps.

The air arms looked better IMO… What’s was your FPS? If you’re trying to shoot slugs at these velocities don’t expect much better groups than what you got here… you’ll have to bump up your regulator. Try a different rest too, sandbags are better than a bipod, they can ruin your barrel harmonics.

@@truepassionoutdoors5925 no problem! And definitely get a chronograph if you plan on tweaking it more. @ 2400 reg. set... your hammer spring needs to be backed all the way out... or maybe 1/4 turn in from all the way out.. Looks to me like your hammer spring is too tight and your putting too much air behind the pellets... that causes them to fly crazy, possibly deforming them in the barrel. Your muzzle speed for .25 cal pellets should be in the neighborhood of 888 to 885 fps. This video is quite old.. 2021. Watch some tuning videos if you haven't already.

For long distances you wanna turn up the reg to 2900psi and 2 1/2 turns in on the hammer spring. Then harmonics dampener barrel stabilizer kit from Terminador Airgunz and Outdoors. Then a barrel band on the end to hold the shroud and air tube together. Put new O rings on the pellets probe or if possible a O ring delete kit on the probe thing. Then shoot some heavy pellets down range an see what happens. You defeated the purpose in this video because the air rifle was not set up correctly for long distance shooting. A waiste of precious metals resources and all! If youre going to use slugs you will need to do the above mentioned things☝️plus a power plenum kit for use with heavier slugs 30 gr and up for long range shooting. Factory parts settings use light slugz. 26 -28 gr.
