Just once I'd love to see a head to head comparison video / shooting competition with the Avenger vs any of the FX models. Anyone else that would love to see this?

The FX is nearly 7X the price. I don't see 7X the performance though. Longevity is another story, but I'm not so sure the FX are all that reliable long term anyway.

@@joshuagibson2520 Just having bought an FX crown .25 MK2, I’m really impressed on how much better budget PCPs have gotten these past years. I think FX is putting pressure on other airgun companies to put in work on their rifles to include regulators, have higher shot count, being able to fine tune the regulator as well since it’s a big deal! We’re past the days of the marauders or Hatsan being good enough for a budget gun, we need more! FX is innovating faster than anyone, and it’s a good thing because again it sets the standard higher of what we all want. If I was starting out with PCPs the Avenger would be up there, but now it doesn’t fit the bill for me. There’s a reason it costs 350-400…. In the long run you’ll see.

@@edgarlombera7066 The Airgunchannel just did a review on the FX BOSS. It dosen't have the adjustability of the Crown, or Impact but puts 30cal pellets hole in hole. So does the RAW. The Avenger and Gauntlet may be crude in refinement compared to the high end guns. But they can produce similar accuracy. It all depends on what you want to spend.

Watch Southern Gunner channel. SG actually owns almost 100 airguns. From low to ultra high end. His Daystate vs Gauntlet video is legendary.

@@heithwatkins I love the look the feel, the craftsmanship of my .25 Crown with the Green mountain stock. Nothing I’ve owned comes close to the accuracy, shot count, and adjustability. The gauntlet and avenger look like great guns. But their design is to bland for my taste, especially the gauntlet, not a good looking gun at all….you’re right though it’s whatever you’re willing to spend, but from my experience you get what you pay for all, which is one of the truest statements ever.

I don't have an AV Avenger but I do have both an Umarex G1 and G2, both in 22 caliber. I recently took them both out to the range on the 100 yard lane and I was surprised by the results. The G1 makes such a tiny shooting report that sounds almost lacking in power, compared to the hard pressurized release report of the G2. I was shooting large water filled soda bottles and once the pellets reached the target, I literally could not hear the striking sound with the G1 but I could always hear a loud twacking sound made by each impact of the G2. Both the G1 and G2 had the air tanks filled to their respective maximum capacities, but you can clearly hear and feel the extra power in the G2. The big surprise for me was that even though the G1 clearly had less power it was actually a bit more accurate than the G2 at 100 yards and the G1 also still managed to completely shoot through the water filled soda bottles at that distance, while the G2 was about 50/50 in achieving complete penetration. I would attribute this disparity to the fact that the G2 has quite a bit more power than the G1 and thus manages to hit with such speed that it really creates expansion in the pellets compared to the G1, which helps them dump all their energy upon impact. I was using hollow point pellets on both rifles for my comparison. All in all, both the G1 and G2 pellet rifles are accurate at 100 yards and both hit with a very respectable level of power even at that slightly extended range, which is satisfying. I wish I owned a high end FX or Air Force PCP rifle so I could compare their capabilities to these $400 dollar Umarex rifles, it's just hard for me to imagine spending $2,000 + dollars on an air rifle when I can spend about the same or less money to purchase an actual high end firearm. Maybe some day I'll catch a good deal on a high end PCP rifle.

@johnmueller155 I did end up purchasing a higher end PCP rifle chambered in .25 caliber that cost me about $1000 dollars and it is definitely a better shooter and a more quality air rifle than the Umarex rifles I own, but the Umarex are still a great value for the price and still quite capable for less than half the cost of a $1k dollar air rifle, but my higher end rifle is still so much nicer in every respect. If I can find an FX for about $1000 one day, I'd still love to own one, but they're still closer to $2k.

Awesome video. This is the real deal. These rifles will bring more people into this sport than all the high end guns combined. I love both. The Avenger is easily tunable. The Gauntlet 2 is more like a RAW, or FX Boss, for bench rest shooting. I look forward to this entire comparison. God bless you brother. 👍👍👍

I have both of the gen 1 versions of these guns. The Gauntlet is a .25 and the Avenger, a .177. The Gauntlet makes 46ish FPE. The .177 Avenger makes just less than 30 FPE. Both are accurate. Out of the box with no fiddling, the Gauntlet is slightly more consistent. The Avenger offers ability to tune…. It’s a great learning platform. If you have a chronograph and enough pellets & time, you can really start to understand the correlation between regulator pressure, hammer spring preload, velocity and barrel harmonics. I’ve seen group size reduce by 50% with less than one turn of hammer spring adjustment. Also, power is adjustable so you can control velocity depending on pellet weight to find the sweet spot. I don’t regret purchasing either of these. The avenger however can give you knowledge and allow you to LEARN in away the Gauntlet will not. So, my recommendation is: if your an air gun nerd or geek; Avenger. If you want a great gun out of the box that will always be the same; Gauntlet. Regarding power of the wood stock avenger Vs Gauntlet 2, if the wooden Avenger is like the Gen 1, the hammer spring is only set at about 50% of what it’s capable of being adjusted. If you go the Avenger route, research if the hammer spring can be coerced into making 5-6 turns versus the 3 to 4 turns available out the box. If additional adjustment is available, I wouldn’t be surprised if the the Avenger isn’t capable of 60 FPE. AGAIN, I DON’T KNOW this to be FACT. It’s just that the .177 is rated as a 20 FPE gun. I’ve made mine exceed 29 FPE by running a 13.4 grain monster at 998 fps. The Gen 1 Avenger in .22 could also coerced into 5-6 turns of hammer spring adjustment based on tuning videos I’ve seen. So there you go…. Don’t think you can go wrong with either rifle. But one will give you the ability to tune & the other won’t.

No idea if you ever got your rifle. But i can't recommend the gauntlet any more than i do currently. I have a Marauder and a gen 1 gauntlet both in 25. I believe the Avenger and The Marauder are similar price points. And I feel they are pretty similar guns minus the regulator that the Avenger uses. Don't get me wrong Marauder is a great gun and I'm sure the Avenger by the reviews is even better but I bought the gauntlet second and I will never buy another gun that is not a bottle gun. That is the exact reason I bought a second rifle in the same caliber. It was the one adjustment or modification I couldn't make to my Marauder. Amount of air. We Marauder out-of-the-box I believe was giving me 850 FPS with a 26 grain pellet. The Gauntlet was giving me 950 with the same pellet. I already upgraded the bottle and it now holds twice as much air. And when I run out I twist on the old bottle that came with. And I'm good to go again. As far as adjustability if you watch videos on KZbin you can order a hammer spring adjuster. And you can adjust the bottle regulators. Either by doing it manually with shims and washers or you can buy an adjustable bottle regulator. And on top of that if you were to get the Gen one gauntlet I believe it's a hundred bucks cheaper

Thanks for the good comparison. Wanted to concur on tightening screws on the pic rails but also wanted to get it out there that I found both barrel set screws loose to the point that I could move it easily in the breech housing. Only reason I found it was I wanted to remove the barrel so I could do a good initial cleaning on it. I haven't even fired the rifle yet am excited to do so. Just an fyi confirming your advise to prospective buyers of the Gauntlet 2. I will also contact Umarex customer service as they will want to be aware of it. Quality also includes thorough assembly practices.

Tried 3 G-2s One in .22 two in .25. All three were accurate and powerful. All three also had a terrible trigger that lost all trigger spring action as it was squeezed to fire. The trigger was sticking in place as it was squeezed, like it had some weird pressure on it. The G2 is heavy and is NOT ERGONOMIC. Wanted to love it but didn't. If you're looking for a rifle that feels great in the hand and has a great trigger the G2 is not it unfortunately. Waiting for the Air Venturi Avenge X.

My 1st pcp was the 177 Gauntlet. I have moved into the over $1,000 dollar market now. I also have a Nomad 2 compressor. Before I only had the Hill hand pump. If I were hunting and walking around with the rifle, the Avenger seems easier. If I plan to tune the rifle to lower power to shoot lighter pellets. Then the Avenger is better. If I wanted a powerful rifle for long range target shooting, or setting up shooting prairie dog's at 100 plus yards. I'd go with the Gauntlet. Plus you can fit a even larger bottle on it. The beautiful thing is that you can actually buy both. Buy one first. Then wait until income tax returns come along next year and buy the other. If you are hand pumping though. Make your 2nd purchase be a compressor.

The Avenger's suppression is non-existent. I had 3 Avengers; one in every caliber. I ordered after market 3-D printed baffles from an eBay seller and dropped the report by about 6db according to my meter. A very respectable drop for a $35 baffle but I'm sure you could add a 0db or DonnyFL and drop it considerably more. The gigantic difference I found was exactly what Rick talked about in terms of adjustability. The ability to adjust the Avenger to a wide range of regulator and hammer spring settings gives you that ability to not only tune to the specific purpose but also to tune to different pellets of different weights to really dial in perfect balance. I also discovered that over-all the .22 simply out performed the .25 on virtually every level. I like .25 for the windy conditions where I live but the .22 was a laser and could be "pro-tuned" to shoot hot and dialed down to plinking levels and get 3 times more shots per fill. Both these are nice guns and I haven't shot the Gauntlet-2, but the Avenger simply has a lot of great features at the price point. BTW; not a fanboy of either gun. They are fun to shoot but my regular shooter is an Air Arms S510 Ultimate Sporter. So I know that neither of these rifles are what you might call elegant, but at 80% cheaper than an S510 I think they are amazing value for the money.
