If you want a radio that does it all well without having to change firmware I would go with the Baofeng 5RM. But, if you like customizing the firmware to your liking I would go with the TIDRadio TD-H3. I have had a lot of trouble with my K6.

These radios are fun but I have a uv 5r plus for playing and a 125xlt for serious listening and if I do buy another it will be the uv k5 for modding, I would like the orange screen on my 5r plus, the hf and added memory mods will be done to.

I have the Baofeng uv5r 5 watt and the 8 watt, the AR152 and the BF F8 HP PRO, the Quangsheng in 2 models, and just got the TIDRADIO H8. The Baofengs ALL get better reception. The sound quality when hitting repeaters is super nice with the baofengs especially the PRO and the AR152. I'm truly thinking about sending the TIDRADIO back. Maybe I got a lemon but it kinda sucks.

Try the H3. It is better in almost every way than the H8.

@@CameraRay I wanted the H8 for the power and all the KZbinrs were cooing over it so I figured it'd be superior to a Baofeng in it's sound quality and reception but I think all the HAMS became enamored strictly because a radio company actually listened to them for once so they got stars and hearts in their eyes. That's the best I can come up with. But thanks for the suggestion!

I just got a TIDRadio TD-H3 from amazon today. I cannot get it to tune to 119.275 no matter which mode it is in, 1: HAM 2: GMRS or 3: Normal. Also it will not go into DFU mode when holding down the PTT button while turning it on. Any ideas? update 1: I figured out the 119MHz issue. The AM band is disabled by default. Turning AM_BAND ON in the menu fixed that.

Sounds cool. As long as you are the 60 year old guy with those call letters and not the 15 year old girl in your videos. Ha!

Can they catch that airport weather information if you live 30 miles from the airport? I have no idea what the range is on them.

It depends on you elevation. Airport antennas are usually Omni-directional with slight elevation. To hit the planes better. If you live lower and have trees then 4 or 5 miles may be all you get with a stock antenna. If you are higher with a clear line of sight you may pick it up as far as 20 miles with stock antenna.
