All structural aluminum parts in UL aircraft are prone to fail and require diligent inspections. Huge side load/ moment arm on something best used in light push/pull mechanical movements. Best to replace the rod with Cad plated steel or stainless. She's a gorgeous Bird, flying a beautiful country. Go fix her heel and get er back in the air!

Thank you for your nice comments and ideas. I was thinking to change from the aluminum rod.

@@AirBikeNC Sounds like a plan. Just don't use mild steel or all-thread rod and you will be good. Enjoy your weekend.

@@LThorsen78 I was looking at the all threaded rods today but the thread pitch was not right…but I was thinking about it:)

@@AirBikeNCYeah, all thread is very weak because of the method the threads are cut and the materials they make it out of. Never use all thread if you can help it, It would eventually warp in your application, even bound in a sleeve. Also check your bearing ends to see if one side is reverse thread, like an adjustable turn buckle. Best to buy the best quality rod available to you and cut your own threads.
