Airbnb is failing. This is the rise of Airbnb and it's spectacular downfall. Airbnb get rich quick schemes have destroyed the app, through cleaning fees and house rules.
Some bad hosts are just like the Barbarian movie.

Ive never made a bad comment about anyone on Airbnb and when I finally did I was told I was committing extortion. Then the apartment owner was allowed to say whatever he wanted to about me and nothing was done about it. I never met this guy, never talked to him or texted him until I left the place a week early on a 2 week stay. Truth is once you make a time commitment on airbnb you are stuck with it no more what kind of place they provide. He asked me what he could do to make things right and I told him to refund me for the week I didnt stay. He asked me and I told him, I made no demands of any kind.

Many statements are incorrect or exaggerated. At least in Europe, the total price is displayed on the first page. The EU government demanded this from Airbnb many years ago. It is inexplicable to me why the US government was so late in following suit. Even if the guest pays a cleaning fee, that doesn't mean that they can leave the house extremely dirty, littered and like a battlefield. I just had a case like that. Leaving things tidy doesn't mean that the accommodation has to be polished to a high shine. You can also use the toilet brush. This also does not cover any damage. House rules are necessary, otherwise Airbnb Support cannot provide support. Simple example. The guest brings more guests into the house than he booked. Without house rules, support remains idle and the host has to look into it. No guest will be cheated. Everything is written in black and white in the ad. Unfortunately, it is a fact that guests do not read the advertisements carefully before booking. So it doesn't hurt to read the reviews and house rules. When evaluating the listing, the grade is more important than the text. The text is usually too positive. Many hosts avoid describing the accommodation negatively. In return, many hosts describe the guest too positively because they hope that they will come back. The guest always has the opportunity to compare the prices between Airbnb and the hotel. And why shouldn't an Airbnb be more expensive than a hotel room when it offers so much more? I'm just thinking of a kitchen, a garden with a grill, a place where you can talk and celebrate with your friends undisturbed. It is true that hardly any guest wants to rent a single room. Almost everyone wants an entire place to themselves. Bookings on Airbnb are continually increasing. Only during Covid there was a slump.

As a host I’ve realized that we don’t matter. Airbnb sits on billions everyday on interest alone. They take the reservation/money immediately from the guest. Hosts pay the *mortgage *utilities *toilet paper *home owner insurance Etc etc etc….. We get paid after a guest checks out and after Airbnb ravages the final payout with added BS fees. The “Host” doesn’t hold as much dollar value as the “Guest” does to Airbnb. We are low on their tower of greed. They make their money off of guests that book! It’s that simple. They don’t care whatsoever about the homeowners rights/costs. We have zero protection and take on all of the risk! All the while getting fees added to our bottom line. Airbnb literally does NOTHING but sit back, maintain a website and count $. They are big greedy slobs that are slowly ruining our economy.

When it comes to cleaning fees, if a group of 10 stay for 1 night vs 7 nights the cleaners still have to do the same amount of work and laundry so yes the price is going or be the same. Let’s use some basic logic ppl.
@RaisedMedia
@RaisedMedia Жыл бұрын
Yes that is how it works...The concern is that if the room costs $100 per night and the cleaning fee is $200, it doesn't make much sense to book through Airbnb when a hotel is $125 and doesn't include a cleaning fee (it's baked into the price). Yes, Airbnb does offer a unique experience such as having more space, a kitchen etc, but from a financial perspective the hotels are now often cheaper. Additionally, if the host does charge a cleaning fee, it's not really fair to the guest to expect them to do much cleaning themselves, after all, they are paying someone to clean the place. It's not like you scrub your car before you go to a car wash. A good guest will do the basics in terms of cleanliness, but if the host is asking for them to strip the beds, do the laundry, mop the floor, do the dishes, fold the towels etc, then the large cleaning fee is ridiculous. If a professional cleaning crew is needed for the place to be ready in between guests, that responsibility should fall on the host, not the guest. The host should just charge more per night. Airbnb themselves are contemplating removing the cleaning fee entirely due to the immense backlash because it is not basic logic to charge someone a cleaning fee and then demand they do all the jobs a cleaner would do anyways. Bad hosts even charge a cleaning fee just as a way to pocket more money, they aren't even hiring a third party cleaning crew.

I don't mind cleaning up after myself, after all, it's the right thing to do. Also, you forget that although an Airbnb might be the same price or more than a hotel. Often it sleeps far more people (3-4x) than a standard hotel room, and you have a full kitchen, living room, and private bedrooms with locking doors, and they are often in a way better location than the hotel by a highway exit ramp. And as far as cleaning fees go, even if I do the dishes before checking out, someone still needs to sweep, mop, wash sheets, make beds, and sanitize everything. I am willing to bet most hosts pay more for this service than the cleaning fee itself.
@RaisedMedia
@RaisedMedia Жыл бұрын
That’s certainly true! However we discovered that in many current experiences found from AirBnB users is that the cleaning fee requests often include things such as sweeping, trash disposal, cleaning the sheets etc. While everyone is different in terms of what they think is a reasonable expectation as a guest, it’s surely unfair to charge a high cleaning fee only to be told on arrival that you as the guest will be doing all the cleaning. Had that been disclosed prior to booking then the guest could decide if they want to do that or not. To surprise them on arrival is unfair no matter what way you look at it

@@RaisedMedia It seems a lot of Airbnb are now doing away with the cleaning fee altogether and just baking it into their overall nightly rate. Question: If you rent an Airbnb and don't pay a cleaning fee at all, would you still be upset with being asked to generally clean up after yourself?
@RaisedMedia
@RaisedMedia Жыл бұрын
@@bransonlariscy4660In general, we found that people were upset that they were charged for a cleaning fee despite being also required to do the cleaning themselves as well. Everyone, regardless if it's a hotel or Airbnb should be expected to clean up after themselves. It is very hard for a host to convince their guest that it's reasonable for them to do anything above the reasonable expectation of general cleanliness. Stripping the sheets, laundry, garbage disposal etc for many guests is simply not reasonable to them. It doesn't matter how the host decides to fund their cleaning crew, but the guests shouldn't be required to do the extra cleaning. Baking that cost into the nightly rate is fine and removes the checkout ripoff of a surprise high cleaning fee but that only solves one of the issues. Some hosts are simply too entitled and forget that their guest is a paying guest, not your buddy that's crashing there for free.

But when we look to stay somewhere, hotels are always cheaper now, in the past it wasnt the case but now its almost never worth it. Comparing Airbnbs to hotels is like comparing apples to oranges. Not everyone's idea of a trip or vacation involves squeezing your family or group into a 10x10 corporately designed box in some high-rise building. Most Airbnb hosts offer 10x the space and other features that you couldn't possibly get from a hotel. With regards to a group or family, imagine having having your own private bedroom and/or bathroom. Or making a home-cooked meal and gathering around a dining table to share that meal. The typical hotel couldn't pull this off and that's why it often costs more for an Airbnb. Airbnb is, for the most part, a vacation rental platform. Prior to Airbnb, you would have to use search engines or reach out to the local real estate company to find vacation rentals. Airbnb globalized and simplified that process. The problem is that the Airbnb market is now oversaturated. The mediocre, get-rich hosts will fail and learn their lesson while those who actually know what they are doing and care about the guest experience will continue onwards.
@RaisedMedia
@RaisedMedia Жыл бұрын
Great summary! Airbnb without a doubt has a more unique offering compared to hotels. Everything you said is true. This video is intended to dismiss the idea that Airbnb disrupts the hotel industry because for the reasons you have mentioned, it’s not really meant to be comparable to a hotel. Airbnbs now just need a reset, where the authentic and good intentioned hosts prevail, not the ones that want to run it like a hotel and maximize profits.

The actual term “Airbinbust” isn’t about the company itself. It’s about the hosts that are going bust. Many hosts that over leveraged themselves simply cannot handle a downturn in the economy and a slowdown of bookings, causing them to quit or have large investment losses. The company itself still doesn’t make money but can rely on investors to continue operating. I made that distinction at the end of the video.

Not every AirBnB charges a cleaning fee but if they do DONT PICK IT, not hard to figure out. I own my cabin, and I rent it on AirBnB and I like the set up, you use inflated numbers to exaggerate how much people pay, why? If you want to have to share a common space with trashy people in a high rise building have at it, people should have a say where they stay, you putting down AirBnB to discourage people is crappy. There are reviews for a reason, read them before making a decision, and there are final numbers given for cost before you purchase, not hidden at all.

I'm here bc I just got screwed on what was supposed to be a spa like stay - $400 Christmas present - that was so bad, unclean, and gross, with unusable amenities, and AirBnB won't refund bc I didn't know about AirCover. Ohhhh I've never wished for a Twitter following like right now!

I am so sorry to hear that. Your experience is unfortunate but seems to be more common as time goes on. I hope one day you’ll get to enjoy the spa day you deserve!
