Is there a term for high income earners who've realized this a long time ago and prefers to buy things from a thrift store to keep their money? This video is an IQ test.

The reason rich people buy luxury goods is purely for Relationships reasons. Relationships are very important to rich people, and luxury goods are useful as a tool to quickly and easily prove one's wealth to people one meets for the first time and thereby gain trust. And when they don't have to, they just dress like normal people. Because it's much more convenient. And 'Tools to quickly and easily prove one's wealth and thereby gain trust' also work well in the broke classes. That's why the broke class buys luxury goods.

It's actually not just about the money. My father used to say that he buys a car for himself not for the neighbours. I've always felt that showing off cars, electronics, big logos etc is kind of vulgar. I'm not rich, but if I really wanted a Chanel bag, I could buy one. But I don't want it.

It reminds me of many poor or low middle class ones spending money on renting luxury items just to have a feel of it for some time. If only they save those costs and focus on how to learn better knowledge and skills, they’ll do much better.

Im in mid class and I can afford good gaming pc, a high end tv and pay my rent simply by avoiding branded clothing, I enjoy life in my noname cotton shirts, I also never cared what others think of me so no need for me to „look successful”. I would go for quality if I wanted to spend but that’s all.

I buy CDs because I cannot stand Spotify. They keep adding things and bullshit but then they remove things from the free plan. Also, not having Hi-Fi (lossless) or dolby Atmos quality makes it worse with the years and experience they have, I love listening to great quality music. Another thing that I'm mad at is literally the free plan on phone, you cannot do ANYTHING. I'd love it if they do like Spotify on computer. It has ads, you cannot download songs but at least you can CHOOSE the music you want. Also they keep updating the app with new features only x regions can use. and I can keep listing my complains.

Precisely. Especially when people can buy a knock off on facebook from some seller on marketplace. Luxury makes you look ghetto when the entire outfit is designer.

Rich celebrities are inown to hire people to pick out their clothes. What is it that these special "pickers" have that makes them so valuable? Pure and simple: "good taste." Cultivate your good taste and you will have what it takes to look wealthy.

Having your own machine gun is status inducing. Just consider the kind of person who would be impressed with that. Same with Gucci loafers. They might be status to you, but not to gun owners.

finally someone said it! i started protesting spotify 2ish years ago after the exact algorithmic playlists you mentioned killed one of my favourite genres and replaced it with a different sound entirely. These days i like to buy from artists on bandcamp (bonus points for when they sell physical releases) and if they are not available on there, then i choose "returning to old ways" so to speak. excellent video.

The rich know the importance of having more then 1 income sources. As an employee you are the most taxed. I know someone who has apartment rentals, franchise, and invest in startups he is doing good for them self. The rich mindset works differently when it comes to money… the fast way to become wealthy just buy real estate and rent it out .

Saying you dont need it is just as bad as saying you need it. We should just stop judging people. Let people buy what ever makes them happy. Cheap or expensive. I feel its only people who care about theese status symbols who tells you if you should buy it or not. People who just buy theese things because it makes them happy and not to show them off dont tell you to buy it or not to buy it. Stop stereotyping people.

It shouldn’t be about these loud “luxury items” trying to look rich, it should be like it was in the 50s and 60s, Trying to have class, suits and ties. We need to go back to sophisticated attire.

Years ago I started using spotify thinking it to be revolutionary. All your favourite songs, artists and good recommendations plus following your friends' playlist to see what they are listening, it was too good. Now in 2024 this is the most dog shit application ever who will want to bleed its users and artists of every single penny as now they have successfully captured the biggest market share. Now these dumb asses are charging you if you want to listen to your favourite song multiple times a day. wanna read lyrics, which are absolutely free on google, pay more. painfully I am shifting all my playlists of over 2000 songs to youtube music and saying goodbye to this.

Full disclosure, I own a lot of this stuff. That said, I have to agree with this video. You can go to the poorest areas of town and see kids walking around with Gucci belts and Jordan shoes. The wealthy areas, not so much. Most millionaires I know don't even own of these things. Rap videos glamourize luxury designers which amplifies the message to poor urban youth that typically listen to rap music. Gucci, LV and Versace are the top targets because they display the biggest logos on their products. The latest lines have mostly giant logos for a reason. I sold most of the Gucci stuff I have because I was becoming self conscious even wearing it. Far as everything else, I'm pretty selective about where I'll wear these items. I consider myself a collector but it's a shame I have to consider whether to keep wearing any of this stuff because I don't want to be lumped in with that crowd. At the end of the day though, I guess you just do you and forget all the noise.

I bought a replica of a Chanel brooch for $20 to compare materials etc. The real brooch cost $800 and was made of the exact same materials - brass, synthetic pearls, glass. The other one is a $40 one *hqluxy* Backpack Replica - also works for Compare - I can't find any difference and still use it for the gym

I haven’t purchased luxury brand clothing since I was in my 20s. It used to look nice and make me feel good about myself, but the stuff I see now looks ridiculous and even if I were my young skinny self I just wouldn’t bother. I still like wearing cologne or purchasing wallets from luxury fashion brands though. That very much is about style and quality than it is flaunting big, gaudy logos.

It’s well known that the reason why ‘catwalk worthy high fashion’ exists, is so the rest of us can drop $ on that $180 cologne or $200 logoed belt.. For them, that’s where the real money is made..
