Lovers of Low and Slow were captivated by the EAA’s Virtual Ultralight Days, which returned in 2023 with 15 webinars over three-days in late February. The presentations highlighted the joys of ultralight flight to the more than five-thousand enthusiasts who availed themselves of live webinars featuring a variety of ultralight topics, including how to get started in the endeavor of ultralight flying, maintenance tips, and airport operations. Aeromarine LSA has an update on the Merlin Lite. Earlier this year the company claimed handy performance of the Merlin as equipped with the Vtwin-power engine, reporting that the ultralight-configured Merlin flew well during a trip to the Czech Republic. The high-wing, tricycle geared Merlin LIte provides the soul of an old Cessna 152, updated and lightened for the modern era. Australian developer Kite Magnetics announced the completion of their 120-kilowatt electric propulsion unit (EPU), a small, self-contained alternative to traditional light sport engines. Their model sports a well-chosen power output, about 160 hp compared to current LSA fare. Unlike the average small engine, however, their system, the KM-120, tips the scales at a fraction of the mass of comparable engines. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!

Bought one of these V-Twins last year at Oshkosh for $7500. It took all year after I sent my wiring harness in to be rewired from an ATV wiring harness to an aircraft harness, removed turn signals and such, and the harness they sent me has bare wires, no convoluted tubing, NO WAY ANYONE WOULD INSTALL THIS ON AN AIRCRAFT! He finally sent me an original wiring harness after months of waiting, I re-wired it, looks beautiful! But now I need a motor mount, fuel pumps, throttle cable, exhaust, propeller.... and Chip says to try Amazon. I'm going to Oshkosh and see what he has to say about my $7500 brick!
