A non-flyable F-35C Lightning II airframe is flown as part of a CH-53K King Stallion external load certification lift Dec. 13, 2022, at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md. The structure is from the first F-35C carrier variant aircraft, CF-1, a former developmental flight test jet from the Patuxent River F-35 Integrated Test Force (ITF). ITF test teams collaborated with Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron One (VMX-1) and a Marine helicopter support team with Combat Logistics Battalion (CLB) 24, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group to conduct the lift. Good thing is, the faster they go, the lighter the load....

No engine in the -35, airframe only. Dry weight of a -35 is 22,500 and the F135 engine is 3,750, so that lift is 18,750 lbs give or take. The CH-53K max sling load is 36,000lbs. So in this video the CH-53K isn't even breaking a sweat at 50% of sling load.

Something was very off with that wing though... it clearly wasn't a normal F-35C design wing?!? That said, I'd be more impressed if this USMC King helo was lifting a couple of stacked USMC A-29 Super Tucano to an offshore LHD/LHA ✌
