For Iwata Micron, What is the correct mix betwen paint and reduce? Drops?

back flashing also pushes the paint past your needle seals.

Hello there! I use airflow improver from Vallejo for waterbased paint. But in a low ratio. Is this the same as (only) a reducer or more of a delay and reducer in one? What is your reducers prime ingrediënt? I tried only water or water and alcohol based to reduce. But then the drying goes faster then i would like. Greetings from the Netherlands.

I have a question. At what psi are you spraying just the paint, non reduced? Thank you for any help
@AirbrushAsylum5 жыл бұрын
I don’t use my paint without reducer at the very least I mix at a 1:1 ratio. I generally have my compressor set at 30-40psi and I use my Micron cmc plus ‘Mac’ valve to adjust my pressure. If I am going for detail then I would set it at 18-20psi and overthin my paint , hope that helps 👍🏻

@@AirbrushAsylum thank you, that does help. I've been to thick on my paint it seems. At a 3:1 I'll reduce more

I've drawn all my life and brush painted my model kits but now found the world of airbrushing. I've bought an Iwata compressor and HPC 3mm airbrush and loving it. You have excellent videos and I'm quickly getting a handle on things. Q: what pressure would you recommend for the fine lines that you produce on the videos? Should I take the needle nozzle off also? I notice you have taken yours off. I'm using acrylic paint ( for the modelling side of things) but I am doing some drawings also and need the fine lines (HR Giger art) Sorry for lengthy comment....

Hi Mike, thanks for your comment and questions. You got yourself a great setup so well done there with your iwata gear...As for air pressure using a HP-C I would recommend thinning your paint out a little more than normal, then dropping your pressure to about 25-30psi for detail...check out our quick tips on creating fine lines video using the following link - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqGVdoiDrLFoitk I always spray without the air cap as it allows for easier tip dry management and in turn finer detail, just be careful not to drop your airbrush, keep it in a airbrush holder. Thanks again hope this helps and glad you like our videos really appreciate the feedback. +Mike ONeill

Hi guys, quick question. What pressure were you using with the Eclipse?
@AirbrushAsylum7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, in this video I think I was running about 30-40 psi but you can thin your paint out and drop the pressure to about 25psi for finer detail when using the Eclipse. 👍🏼+Simon Carter

You can also get the same effect by half-unscrewing the end cap- prevents you from stabbing yourself or bending the needle too!

I have a Iwata hp-cs an when I push down on the trigger for air paint comes out ? Shouldn’t it just be air coming out and not paint ?
@AirbrushAsylum6 жыл бұрын
Yes , it should only be air...you most likely have a bit of dried paint stuck in your fluid nozzle which is not allowing the needle to ‘seat’ in the nozzle therefore allowing paint to come out, give your nozzle and brush a good clean and it should fix the issue. 👍🏼
@BARTSHARPAirbrush6 жыл бұрын
Hi DEAD STEAD, this could be down to a couple of factors: your needle may not be set fully forward in the nozzle to create a seal. this could allow a small amount of paint to leak through under gravity. The other possibility is trigger technique. If you don't allow the trigger to return to the fully front position before lifting the trigger (to cut off air) then a small amount of paint will be left on the needle tip as it will not have been removed by the air flow. When you next press your trigger, just for air, this paint will then flow from the needle tip. Alternatively you may have a worn or damaged needle or nozzle which means that the seal created between them is compromised allowing paint to leak through. Hope this helps?

I've recently stumbled across your channel and I think it's great. A lot of very useful tutorials (I wish I could afford a week with Dru Blair!). As a hobbyist using an airbrush I mostly use Acrylic Hobby Paints (Tamiya/Testors). I have a question regarding changing colors... Do I need to thoroughly clean my airbrush between colors, or can I just flush some Thinner/Reducer through my color cup and then add my next color? How often is a complete cleaning required/necessary?
@AirbrushAsylum6 жыл бұрын
I try and keep my brush as clean as possible, saying that I generally use 4-5 airbrushes when doing my art so that I don’t need to always clean. If you are switching from a similar colour ie light brown to dark brown then you can blast it through, but I find the cleaner the brush the better it works 👍🏼

The more videos I see, the less intimidated I am. I draw, paint with a brush, build, landscape, hand letter, and, I think, rather than being disappointed, I May surprise myself. Both of my airbrushes are dual action, one is gravity OR syphon feed... I'll have them out before the week is out. I'll be mixing acrylic craft paint, to thin a touch. I'm finding, clean water is all that's Necessary to reduce water based acrylic... So. We shall see. I May KZbin my First Attempt. Why not... lol.. it's All Art.

@AirbrushAsylum5 жыл бұрын
Mix your paint to your liking, I work on the following ratios . For detailing when using my microns 30% paint 70% reducer at approx 18-20psi for general airbrushing 50% paint 50% reducer at approx 30-40psi. The airbrush, paint etc will all effect your best mix hope that helps 👌🏻

@@AirbrushAsylum what is a reducer and how is it deiiferent from a thinner?

They both do the same thing, some companies label their products ‘reducer’ and others ‘thinner’ generally most of the waterbased paint companies use reducer as their familiar term.

This goes a long way to explaining video kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4ayZnqgrMt9jK8, where the parts of the CM-C+ that shouldn't have paint in them were full of freaking paint. Go ahead and backflush all day if you like spending hours breaking down and cleaning your entire airbrush after the paint gets forced back past the needle packing into your air piston/trigger area. Some mini painters taught me that backflow was this great technique, and it wasn't a week before my airbrush became completely unusable. Once I broke it down and cleaned the paint out of the the trigger area, it finally worked again (a Badger airbrush, I move entirely to Iwata shortly after). I haven't done a backflow for mixing since (I still do it with cleaner though, mostly to make bubbles to make my kids laugh).
