Thanks for info. I've been struggling trying to airbrush this paint straight. I know now that I have to thin it.

Revell make their own thinner for Aqua Colors aswell. It's good for airbrushing as it contains thinner, as well as retarder. The tip won't dry so fast on your airbrush, which is common with Aqua Colors on larger models, like 35th scale or 32nd scale that require a lot of spraying time. I like Aqua Colors on smaller models. For bigger models I use Mr. Hobby or Tamiya, still the best paints around imo.

Thank you for this video. I have a lot of these paints but have not tried airbrushing with them before as last time I thought about it I got the "turns to sludge" thing happen when I tried thinning (with Vallejo airbrush thinner IIRC) and got too frightened about wrecking my airbrush. I might try again now!

Just to let everyone know, you can't add alcohol to the Revell Aquacolor gloss paints as they gel up completely

Good video especially how you show the difference between drying time using water and ipa. Never used Aqua colour myself for airbrushing have tried Humbrol acrylics with mixed results but that is down to paint pigments as well as thinning. But I do know not to use lacquer thinner with Acrylics as I’ve seen what the result can be from other reviews and videos, a seriously gunked up airbrush. Even had this problem with Vallejo clear coats, mostly the gloss clear model air. But my preferred brand is Mr Hobby Aqeuous or Tamiya.

The blue color you used looked like the transparent blue (752). These transparent (or "Klar" in Revell Germany terms) colors are awfully thick, almost like honey, as we saw in the video. They are even too thick to be brushed on. Did you try to dilute it with alcohol or water? And on the other hand, did you try the laquer thinner with the other colors? I'm just curios if the regular colors could be diluted with laquer thinner. I use the Revell Aqua colors with the airbrush myself and I like the density of the pigments, but I'm really not a fan of that whole diluting gamble it takes to get them sprayable. By the way: I own the transparent colors myself but never dared to shoot them through my airbrush.

Im having big troubles with their own thinner. Aqua mix. It dries up too fast and turns into sludge in the container of the airbrush. Can someone please help me? I tried it all...1:1 2:1 3:1 ratio...wirh water only, with aqua mix only...blend with water and aqua mix....same thing. Went to the shop bought new paint. Spared well for 40-50 seconds...same happened again...anyone?

Could you test Propylenglycol too? Out of the datasheets, its with ethanol in the original aqua color mix thinner of Revell.

Great video assessment of diluting Revell aqua acrylics for airbrushing Jack. It means i don't have to go through the experimenting process myself, which is a great help and saves time. Can i ask you what is the mixture ratio of paint to rubbing alcohol that you used. Thanks.

@GuitarTherapy144 me too. Iv bought 2 different looking bottles Aqua mix & colour mix, both made by Revell both don't work. Iv tamyia paints & there thinner, that turns paint globby. All you need is 99% isopropanol alcohol. It works with tamiya, revell & Humbrol paints if isopropanol dont cut your paints buy a different paint brand .it's all you need as a thinner it's really general purpose

Can someone tell me what the primer is used for? Total beginner here, I wish he could have mentioned that.
@philliplewis5164 жыл бұрын
A primer is an undercoat for plastics or metal models that helps the next colour coats to stick. Black undercoat will have dark shadows in the recesses, white or grey will lighten up the model. Also, white or grey over a black undercoat will help to highlight the model and darker the recessed areas.

Lacquer thinner is not good for true water based paints, like revell Aqua and Vallejo. Lacquer thinner is better for alcohol acrylic paints, like Tamiya, Mr Hobby, etc.

So you know what i can thin matalic paints from revell aqua colour please ?
@anselmoasaable2 жыл бұрын
@@richardbrown8789 you can thin, for airbrush or brush, with tap water, revell aqua color mix, VMS Airbrush Thinner 2.0 acrylic or other any universal water based thinner. The revell mix has already a retarder, what is good. Otherwise, if you want to thin the paint in the pot for extend it, i would use destilated water or revell aqua mix. I never tested IPA, water is chepear.

Breathing acrylics is not the best thing even though they are water based. Then also he had alcohol, primer and lacquer thinner that are much less desirable

For me Revell paint is THE most impossible paint to use. Nomather how I thin the paint, I manage to spray it for a 10-15 seconds, and after that it wont spray at all. I used their own thinner still got the same result. I got other paints that needs to be thinned, I thin them down and paint with them good. Nomather what I do Revell paint always spits back in to my eyes after 10 secondish with: NOPE. Every Revell paint has its own thickness. You need to play with them, how and how much to thin it. I dont belive that I dont need to spend much more time playing with how to thin a paint, rather than enjoy painting it. I am sorry, its a no for me.
@Harimaru13374 жыл бұрын
@@powertothebauer296 To be honest, I use AK real collors, and Vallejo that needs to be diluted. I have no problems with those paints diluted. But thanks for the comment. Oh the Vallejo collos are thick as revels are :)
