Actually, the computers do all the hard work. But yes, the pilots need a good nervous system too.

@@Raskeable Computers measure side, upward and downward winds and the distance to the ground. If anything indicates that a landing is not safely possible the pilots will automatically be warned to pull up. If they don't the plane will be pulled up automatically but the pilots can overrule.

They are, its a crab angle to stay on the center line counteracting the cross wind. The crab angle is removed prior to touch down.

Airlines have their own procedures that the pilot must follow. Slamming the gear in weather like this could mean the plane was light and they wanted to avoid it floating up with that headwind.

That was not a bad landing, its raining much harder than earlier you need to get the plane down hard else you skid and could end up off the runway.
