Schipholhotspot Looks much worse? I don't know where you're located in the Netherlands but you surely didn't feel the 133 kmh gust that I felt then.
@Schipholhotspot7 жыл бұрын
I was at the airport Schiphol filming the same storm and the effect it had on airplanes, i think it has more to do with angle of filming that i did in comparison to the angle of what Martin filmed. and his images look more spectaculair than what i did recorded.

Honestly, 12:00 was the best landing. The only plane that actually used an angle of attack and dove straight into the wind nose-down. Potentially a pilot used to landing a LCY, which is possible as it’s Flybe, and applying the same logic! What a wonderful landing! The only time I’ve ever had a go-around was on a Flybe Dash 8 on a flight from LCY to EXE, due to high winds. Coming in to land was incredibly windy and the plane really was rocking all over the shop, but it didn’t feel like the (scary) turbulence you get at high altitude; the best way I can describe it is as if we were sitting on a rug and somebody was grabbing the rug and sliding us back and forth and side to side, more of a fun sensation than an out of control one. The pilot landed it the second time around when she took it from the opposite end of the runway, which is possible at an airport as quiet as EXE! :)

Oh wow thanks for pointing that out! Yeah, very wise approach there considering the circumstances. Are FlyBe pilots mostly from the military?

This is why you should try not to be upset at weather-related delays even though it can be frustrating. I’d rather wait 2 hours than look out my left window and see down the entire length of the runway when landing

Every time I watch a plane land I think it's the most beautiful site ever! Especially those massively large planes! I so wish I lived next to an airfield! I love airplanes! Also when I watch videos of the massive planes take off! What a wonderous site! As a child I lived in hearing distance of an Air Force air field in the Canal Zone, Albrook Air Field. The first air field my family took a flight from for vacation to the U.S. We sat backwards, facing the back of the plane unlike today. Late 50's/early 60's. No A/C then so the louvered windows were open. Late at night you could hear the large planes running through the night....like a white noise. And when they shut down it was 'wake up and sit up' wondering where that sound was! To this day (70 yr old) I still sleep better with a background monotone sound! So many stories I could tell about my dad's interaction with planes during the war...so many stories I could tell about 3 out of my 5 brothers and their interactions with planes still to this day! I could go on and on about all the plane interactions I had in the Canal Zone! What a wonderful life! LIke camping out on a beach that was just at the entrance of the landing zone to Howard Air Force Base! Watching plane after plane come in for landing at night! We marveled at this with every landing we would yell 'DUCK'. They were so close overhead! ' During WWII a Lufthansa german plane landed at Albrook Air Field and was secured by the US Military. My Dad was commissioned to dismantle the cockpit which was written up in a book. I even have a picture of him doing this. I don't know the whole backstory to this. All inventions are great the most magnificent of all inventions is the airplane. NOTHING surpasses that...nothing!
