Here comes the tutorial for my Microsoft Flight simulator 2020 HPG H145 checklist.
With this you can better understand (hopefully) the different stages of startup, cruise flight and landing procedures. Every stage is explained carefully while performing the tasks, and so that most propably you can understand all without any expertise of aviation or simulator flying.
Helicopter model Airbus H145 is made by HPG - Hype Performance Group and is downloadabe from HPG's website. The HEMS-equipment belongs to an Action Pack which is also HPG's production. www.hypeperformancegroup.com ‪@HypePerformanceGroup‬

Thanks for the nice words 🤩 1. I’d like to fly VR very much. Few times tested with really old VR which I borrowed from a friend but my pc was not fast enough and the VR quality was really poir to be able to even read the texts in the cockpit. 2. IFR-rating is mandatory in finnish HEMS-operations. We fly quite little operative IFR, but having the ratings make it possible to transit to IFR if weather gets poor in the summer time. And it is possible to depart IFR if weather at base airfield is poor. Also gives lot’s of usefull skills for the everyday operations.

Thanks for the kind words! 😊 I’d really like to edit the videos way more nicer but it is so time consuming that I just do what I barely have the interest and time. Looks like I have the 340 version. I don’t really know if the newer one’s still have some issues so I’ll stay on this working version for now 😊

Thanks for the feedback Fermín! Simulator settings are some kind of mix of all I have heard and seen on some tutorials, but I’m not really 100% happy with those. I don’t have very powerfull PC so quite basic settings I believe. You can find the Key Bindings menu from your Hype Operations Center. Then you just bind the buttons inside the simulator control settings to do what you want them to do :)

@@ferminlopez3316 It’s a bit hard to explain in simple words if the very basics of the control assignments are not familiar. But I’ll try… To make for example some of your control buttons work as GA (Go Around) button you have to check to what action it has been binded in Hype Operations Centre (Application that you have on your PC.. if not, download from HPG). Open Hype Operations Centre - Press the HPG Airbus H145 helicopter box - press ”View & Modify” button in Key indings box - Search GA from the right side of the list - Check what MSFS Binding HPG has binded it from the left side (seems to be ”AUTO THROTTLE TO GA”). Now you know which MSFS action you have to assign on the button you want to act as GA button in the HPG helicopter. Do this inside the MSFS20 control settings by choosing the ”Auto throttle to ga” from the list and press a button on your controls which you want to do that action. Now search each and every binding you wish to have on your controls, and set the corresponding key to act as you wish. One more example… if you want the button 3 in your joystick to be AP /UM OFF (Autopilot Uppermodes Off), notice from the list that it is binded in MSFS to ”Autopilot OFF”. Then go to MSFS control settings, search ”Autopilot OFF” from the list, assing a button to the one that you wish. This more accurately I’m not able to explain this and it would take some hour to make a decent tutorial from the case so I don’t think I want to spend that time in editing 😁

Great video Markus. Do you know if the HPG H145 still has the collective & throttle bound to a single key binding? (This is an Asobo modelling issue) Also how much of an issue do you find this flying in sim vs having the collective & throttle separate in real life?

Hi, thanks for the feedback! 😊 At the moment I’m using the newest version of the helicopter, which is not working as I’d like to. Earlier I flew with the latest stable version but just two weeks ago I decided to take a risk and download the latest beta version. I think I have to wait until they get the new stable version done, then making the setup, and after all that considering this video you succested 😁

Hi and sorry for the delay.. It has been coming so much contacts and questions that I've missed several, and now trying to catch them all :) Unfortunatelly I don't know lot about any other helicopters that R22, R44, EC135 and H145, so that kind of tutorials wouldn't hav much to offer :) Now I have been flying only H145 for few years.

Very nice video mate! How about flying in winter time over in Finnland? The H145 is not suited for icing conditions I have been told.

Icing conditions (icing rain, fog, drizzle) are definitelly no go for H145. That keeps us grounded in the bad weather time. But temperature limits seldom come to restrict our operations. Helicopter is always kept inside in a warm hangar when we are not flying. De-icing system would make it possible for us to fly IFR in FZ weather.

Nice video again, thanks👍🏻 Q: why you take off flying backwards keeping 'H' in small window? Q: noticed you didn't fly with VMS on one of the MFDs in view. In real life, you fly without the VSM visible too? When flying the sim HPG H145 I like to keep VSM at #1 MFD, just to see what engines are doing. Does that make sense or are these engines so reliable they don't need monitoring constantly?

Thanks for the thanks 😊👍🏼 Q1: It is called Performance Class 1 Vertical Takeoff and it ensures that the two engine helicopter is able to brought down to land safely if some kind of malfunction appears before the TDP. And if for example one of the engines fails after continuing the departure from TDP, it is possible to continue the flight with one engine inoperative, with proper clearance from all the obstacles. This kind of procedure is separately made for different helicopter types and for different locations, taking account the performance of the specific helicopter, and all local obstacles. Q2: In our company we don’t keep the VMS-page visible in normal operations after the startup procedures. The helicopter system is built so that if some of the values starts to change, we get ”TREND” caution to the Master List. In that case we become more interested about the VMS-page. So there is no need to keep it always visible. We also fly with either two pilots (in Rovaniemi) or pilot + HCM (paramedic who is almost a pilot but no license) so both of the front seaters need to see the FND-display. When I have done single pilot ferry flights, I’ve kept the VMS visible in MFD1. Hope this answered your questions 😊

Wow, those are great answers, very much appreciated!👍🏻 -.I was wondering about the 'H' lift-off backwards, thinking it could (?) then keep you out of the deadman's curve. - Yes, that makes sense now to not keeping the VMS page visible all the time when flying with crew. Especially since the system alerts you if an engine issue does come up. Mostly "flying" alone in sim so getting used to seeing the gauges on MFD#1 by my default. Look forward to more off your videos. Had one more question; isn't it difficult flying with the desk joystick and horas stick? Do you use rudder pedals or you twist the joystick? Again, thank you for your clear answers.

@@antebellum45 Dead man’s curve is for single engine helicopter which have to avoid the shaded speed/height diagram area to be able to make autorotation in the case or engine failure. In multi engine helicopters you don’t have to wory about this as far as all engines are running. That’s why we can make that kind of pre-inspected vertican procedures and be able to avoid all the obstacles in the one engine failure situation 😊 I’d really like to have a better controls but have to try to manage with the one’s I have. I don’t have pedals so yaw is controlled by the z-axis of joystick. Flying ergonomics is bad with my setup but again… got to manage with what I’ve got. On the other hand H145 is mainly flewn with autopilot so the steering happens by pressing the beeb-trims on a joystick or in the cockpit by mouse. Most of the time I like to fly hands free and monitor the system etc. Just like in the real world. We fly about 97% with AP in our operations.

how realistic do you think the controls are in the game?

Sorry for the delay... lot's of contacts and questions been recently... :) Many many people ask the same, and I answer the same way; The real H145 helicopter is quite stable to fly and I like to keep all flying aid's near to full to make the sim helicopter stable too. Flying the H145 in the real world is more using the system which flies the helicopter, than hands on flying. So, realistic autopilot and all system functions are very important to me. One huge lack in the sim is the lack of motion which you can't get in most of the home simulators. That really contradicts with the visual sensory :)

Thanks for the greetings! 😊 You just have to copy the file location ”address” to the EFB Connect address field for example from the win file browser. At least this is how it works for me.

@@Torkil80 You don’t have to open or edit any file. Just put the file location address to the EFB Connect window address bar, which is in upper side of the window. The same place where you put a web address. Like using a normal web browser.

When you engage AP/BKUP ON (IAS, HDG, ALT) while in stable flight the helicopter nose jumps up and down and the collective is doing crazy adjustments. Is this a "bug" in the sim or does this happen in the real helicopter also?

This is totally a bug but I didn’t say it vlearly enough in the video because was multitasking and concentration was really spreaden to many directions 😅 I believe that HPG is workin to make this fast FLI fluctuarions in controls some day. It’s quite annoying. I just should put the helicopter to a stable stage with stable IAS, vertical speed and HDG before hitting the engage button 😊

@@msinerva80 i tried that. Even in complete stable horizontal flight with constant IAS this happens when engage the upper modes. :( In the real one: do you press the 3 buttons on the ACP to engage ALT HDG IAS separately or do you use the AP/BKUP on on the collective?

@@eaglethedigger I believe this is a bug from the aircraft flight model. In real helicopter the HCM or PNF (pilot not flying) chooses those modes from the autopilot control panel (APCP)when the pilot flying asks. It is also possible to click twice to forward position the bigger AP-button in the cyclic for example in case when the situational awareness has been lost in emergency etc. Can be used also in normal operations of cource.
