Aircraft Carriers 1920s: How Feuding Created a New Capability

See the very first U.S. aircraft landing and the development of U.S. carrier operations. This video contains rare, on deck, video of the very first carrier landings in the early 1920s, to include the mishaps. The development of this new naval aviation capability came about through service rivalry between the U.S. Army and Navy, and Army General Billy Mitchell's vaunted test of airpower by sinking battleships off the coast of Virginia in 1921 to demonstrate air capability. This video takes you there, and through the development of carrier operations up through and to 1942.
