The twin-tailed aircraft at 0:12, 1:42 and 4:15 to the left of the MiG is a Fairchild T-46A. I mention this because I had no idea what it was and I hope I'm not alone. Wiki says it was pitched as a T-37 replacement but got axed due to budget priorities. Wiki also mentions it was Fairchild's final aircraft design. This is my dream garage- I would never come outside again!

Looks like the Fieseler Storch that arrived at Patterson Field on the same C-5 that brought in the Apollo 15 capsule back in, I think, 1974. @Noha3073 жыл бұрын
I'm quite curious how they'd paint it. Since it's a Spanish license built CASA 352L, putting German markings on it would be *technically* incorrect. I imagine the tension between accuracy and relevant representation might be part of the reason why it hasn't been restored yet.
@willausterman31043 жыл бұрын
@@Noha307 it's currently painted as Ju-52 and was displayed as one for decades so I'd assume they'd keep it as such. It's the same design so it's not terribly inaccurate.

@willausterman31043 жыл бұрын
Even if they get the wings it'll sit for a long time. That He-111 in there with the MiG-25 supposedly had Jumos recovered from a wreck in the 1990s for a restoration..... and it's still awaiting it. They've just simply got a long list of aircraft to restore and maintain and this hangar is full of future projects that just aren't quite as popular or pressing as others. They can only do so much so fast, but they'll get to all of these someday.

The museum does rotate airplanes out from time to time. Some of the other videos on their channel show the aircraft movements to and from the main building. However, some of them still need restoration, and so they can't be displayed until that is completed. And the restorations are entirely dependent on the museum having sufficient resources available (e.g. money, staff, time) to perform the work.
