I’m opting for the integrated tips/lights from AeroLEDs because… well… they’re just cool. So I’m hoping for a little less work involved but you’re right, they’re not cheap. Just don’t tell my wife what I’m spending on them! 😅. And thanks for another great video. I know it’s a ton of work on top of just building the plane!

Het Ryan i built these during covid and they are cool. If you need an enclosure for the control board i found a guy who’s 3 d printing them. Nice job and very cheap
@RyanFlysPDX3 ай бұрын
@JasonWare-ym6mm Yeah, I saw some links for some 3D printed ones and some standard cases from digi-key or mouser that work. Honestly the standoffs mount it pretty firm and keep in insulated so I think I may just rock it like it is. We’ll see how I feel as I get more of the electronics and wiring buttoned down.

If I could tell my 13 year old self that, someday, my future wife would say that phrase all the time, I would have been ecstatic. In reality, I just don't want to go to Taco Bell by myself. The lights look great! How do the exterior lenses attach and will you need to paint inside of there? I know that's a long ways off, but any ideas on paint/design?
@RyanFlysPDX3 ай бұрын
Thanks! And life certainly has its sense of irony. I should have covered your question in the video. I was concerned about painting, and thought I might need to prepaint the PCBs. The instructions say it’s best to paint after. So I just sent it and got the work done. I imaging the LEDs are just masked off and the tip shot without the lens. I believe lenses attach with a series of screws. I have the clear plastic on the parts shelf, but will leave them there until closer to finishing.

@@RyanFlysPDX I just realized today your name includes PDX, assuming that means you're near... wait for it... PDX lol. I've just started my -14 build and have been considering a move up there. I'm actually going to do a factory tour in one week. Curious how it's been to build so close to Aurora

@JoshWelsh Handy. To say the least. Mostly because you’ll find the cost of parts can be incredibly affordable compared to the cost of shipping. Have fun with the tour and hopefully you’ll be taking a flight in the 14 demonstrator while you’re there? I wish I could get a redo on my factory flight. It was so long ago!

@randy-johnkostapapas9944 Here’s how it typically goes down: her best friend’s boyfriend or some similar arrangement calls over from the couch and has the best friend watch, who live texts what’s happening to her. About 30 seconds after that text is received I get one that says something along the lines of: “you did what?”

That sounds so fun. I remember in middle school I watched someone assemble a HAM radio and I thought it was the coolest shit. I begged my dad and he was having none of that-sitting and listening to HAM radio was not his style. Instead he started getting me into R/C aircraft, and here we are. I guess it all worked out ok.

Great video. Regarding those grey (inline) connectors you use. I have seen others use these but I am not sure of the source ( and it looks like a lot of copycats/counterfeits are out there?) Do you recommend them, they look great and do you have a good source? thanks, great editing too looks like a lot of work
@RyanFlysPDX3 ай бұрын
I love the connectors. They’re know as Deutsch style, and you’re right there’s a number of sources. I’ve been using JRready which is a bit of a knockoff but way more affordable than the TE Connectivity ones. I do swap out the provided contact for gold plated ones, and those will get expensive. But I hear it’s a must for corrosion free, low impedance connections. Thanks for the kind words!
