I would like to see a podcast from you on advices for economical flying, eg. saving fuel when flying - how to save fuel by descending slowly towards the destination and so on. Which altitude vs length of flight is most economical, since lower air resistance at higher altitude is better, however it costs fuel to climb there. :-)

I am just able to learn so much from these technical videos. I would request you to make a video on the different take off and landing weights of an aircraft and how to calculate and determine those weights of the aircraft for different flights. Thank you.

Awesome channel and great video as always! Hope it becomes much more popular. Keep up the good work. I'm about to start my typerating on the 737NG and was wondering if you could share the content of your flight crew luggage/bag (maybe even another video:) )? And I was wondering how popular electronic logbooks are with you and your colleagues?

"You don't just put a 'comfort ton' on...it's not professional"...I couldn't agree more! All it does, is waste fuel, make extra emissions and makes it look as though one doesn't really know what they should know. I can think of a few pilots in my time who should watch this video and take note!

There have been several aviation accidents attributed to incorrect weight and balance. As I understand it, the pressure in a landing gear strut is proportional to the weight resting on that gear. It would seem that strut pressures could be monitored and converted to weight to assist in calculating weight and balance as a final pre-flight check before takeoff. In fact the pressure data could be processed by an onboard computer to inform the pilot of the CG and possibly create an alarm if the CG is outside or near the limit, or if it is projected to fall outside the limit in flight as fuel is burned.

Great informational video to even GA pilots like myself. Can you please speak about how the number of passengers, luggage and weight and balance affect the cruise fuel? And when do you do the fuel calculations? After the passengers are boarded when you have an accurate estimate of the weight? Thanks.

Hello, and thanks for making videos like this! I work in airline operations and often find it hard to explain what we do when I talk to people about my job (sometimes even in the airline! ;-) ). I've been looking for such videos to point people to. Oh .. what about ballast fuel to keep the aircraft in trim? Speaking of trim do you have a video on load control?

Hi Captain and many thanks for your very interesting videos. I would like if I may to ask you a question regarding the minimum fuel on aircraft's especially RYANAIR. After I saw newspapers and many other videos about this company, I've find out that the pilots are specialist to call ATC's to land in emergency due to too low fuel still available. Now I'm not blaming any pilots or co-pilots because I think that they have received instructions from M. O'Leary the general manager himself ! What do you think of this ?
@mba7454
@mba7454 2 жыл бұрын
Mike O Leary needs to be taught a simple lesson of Economics.Declare fuel emergency, sure you will get priority ...but for any delay caused in the airspace and slots missed concurrent to that and any extra fuel burnt by other airlines due to Ryan Air jumping the cue, well he has to pay it...or just accept that his planes will one day be gliding in and all his pilots will be marching to jail for violating EU Ops regulations. I bet he will have a drink of Guinness after hearing this! Hehe

I would suppose that all this discounts the MTOW for whatever runway you're departing from and provisions for emergency landing, too, though I've heard some aircraft actually have a larger max landing weight than MTOW.

I was on a flight recently and we were circling for more than 1 hour due to bad weather. I thought we were going to run out of fuel. We hit wind shear on our approach and had to divert to another airport. After we were out of imminent danger, the pilot came on the PA and said we didn't have enough fuel to make another possible failed attempt at our original destination. So I was right all along - we were low on fuel.

I have watched tons of your videos. You have a wealth of knowledge and I have learned lots, I have a question. hope you haven't already answered it. If you get delays and have to make up a lot of time to get passengers to connecting flights do you increase speed to get there on time? Is there a limit on how fast you can fly and what is the top speed of the aircraft (737) you fly. Again love your videos keep up the great work! Oh I went and watched the movie with Ernst Borgnine Flight 401, lol had to do after seeing your Halloween video and it reminded me of that flick. Stay safe and I'll keep watching!

Thx for the info! Question, I have a confusion regarding minimum fue vs emergency fuel. To my knowledge, if you get close to your reserves, you declare "minimum fuel", and get no priority, unless you declare a pan-pan. They know you can't expect any delay. And you declare an emergency, if you are already using your reserves. Am I correct?
@mba7454
@mba7454 2 жыл бұрын
you declare an emergency "May Day" with reason being on fuel reserves if you have touched your fuel reserves. If you make a pan pan call it will only be a priority, not the same as May Day!!!.Think of it this way, if at night in IMC and in weather in a busy terminal area surrounded by terrain....which can help you more? "May day"!!! or short cuts?

Oh yeah when pilots are talking to ATC and the use the term "Heavy" what does that mean?
@ExtraFormula
@ExtraFormula 6 жыл бұрын
It refers to an American built plane that has weight control issues
@Die_Biene
@Die_Biene 6 жыл бұрын
Heavy is used for bigger airplanes like the 747. The A380 for example is called "super". It's because of upcoming turbulances during landing and take-off so pilots of smaller airplanes are warned about it and the tower/ground control can try to delay them a bit so the slot between both airplanes is bigger than for a 737 or A320.

Hello captain, I know this is off-topic but I need to ask about the medical test, I have obtained 1st class medical however I do not achieve 10/10 in both eyes, based on your experience what is the standards of eyesight limitation to be elligible for 1st class. I mean even with glasses on I achieve 8/10 as a total of both eyes and this is really scaring me not to fulfill the dream

How big are your chances of being hired by an airline if you don't want to pay for your type rating yourself? Is that even possible now a days? I know that some airlines let you pay for it by taking a small procent of your salary each month.

First you say that you take less fuel for environmental reasons and at the end you say sometimes you take a lot of fuel because it is cheaper, but then you are hurting the environment a lot. So clearly it's all about money and the environmental part just sounds better for the customers/passengers

+Mentour Pilot hi, i don't blame you or any other pilot its just that for the airlines is easy to say they take less fuel for the environment, sure it's true, but the main reason is money, the environment just sounds way better for the public to hear then to make more money. Have a great day! I am a fan :)
