Love Tug’s humility. He makes it all the more interesting as a result

Definitely seems like a great guy to fly with or just have a pint with.

I bet he’s a way more capable pilot than he says!

My cousin came through the ENJJPT system and Tug was his instructor in his early years (very early 90s) when he got back. Although my cousin went on to GR4s he reckons he could identify the pilot that went on to the F3 as one of two on his course! Last time he bumped into Tug was back in 2005, top man.

Tug is a very humble guy. But you don’t get to have his career without being pretty good through hard work. Can relate to a lot of his experiences. Great interview. Thanks. 👍

Tug. I really enjoyed your interview. Like you, I went from Hawk (TWU at Chivenor) to US exchange. I would only take two issues. You are far too self effacing and your comparison between the RAF and US training systems does not chime with my experience. Yes, you were in the USMC system, I was an instructor in the USAF system. They are very different, but my F-15 ground school (MDTSI), was top notch as was the simulator training. Our flying phases were “regimented”, but kept on time and “regular”. But at the end of the day, we both were very lucky to have had that experience (although I had never applied for an exchange) and we are both better for it.

HA! Looking forward to the second book. The first book had me wondering how any aircrew survived the drinking!
