Such a work of art, the airplane and this video to see it flying!

In the write-up in the beginning of the video it says that the plane was equipped with an intercepting gear to allow the machine guns to fire through the arc of the propeller. What you mean is that it was equipped with an interrupting gear which interrupted the firing of the machine gun as the propeller blade passed in front of the muzzle of the gun.

So I'm guessing that to keep everything at scale, it mounts twin AR-15s in 223 Rem calibre?

It states in the introduction that "The Fokker Dr 1 had two machine guns with an intercepting gear that was designed to fire through the propellor arc without hitting the blades." But there never was such a thing as an "intercepting gear." There was something that the British used to enable them to fire bullets through the propellor arc without hitting the blades that was called an "interruptor gear," which was not nearly as good as the German system (which Anthony Fokker invented), which was a "synchronized" system. Starting with Tony Fokker's E1 Eindecker, Tony Fokker produced the world's first successful "fighter" airplane in which there was a cable running directly from the turning motor to the machine gun, the cable operated the machine gun to fire its bullets in perfect synchronization to the turning propellor blades. Before the British could figure out how to make such a device, and in direct response to the "Fokker Scourge," the British invented a system that allowed the machine gun to fire at its own rate, but whenever one of the propellor blades would pass in front of the gun, the "interruptor gear" would prevent the gun from firing. This was better than nothing, but was not nearly as efficient as Fokker's "synchronized gear." For one thing, the interruptions of the machine-gun firing sometimes caused the gun to jam. After some time, the British developed their own synchronized system, probably copied from a downed German plane.

Even at 75% it would be awesome fun! However, if I could afford one I would have a two-seater job :)

I thought this was RC and I thought Wow an 1835 VW in a RC plane is impressive! Lol! Very beautiful nonetheless! Bill Hempel makes a 65% Tri Fokker that is RC. Hence why I thought this was as well...

It’s the German national anthem, Deutschland Uber alles.

I like the music but perhaps it would have been better to have been able to listen to the music of the airplane engines.

why make it at 75% and not at full scale??? that little difference....
@9999plato7 жыл бұрын
I realize this reply is way after this question was posed but... They do make a full sized version of the DR1 now. They may be releasing a full size DVIII as well for 2017, as for when? This remains to be seen...

Why Mon Amour, are SO many of these vintage aeroplanes, including this one, not full-scale. Does it have to do with the bloody government and their onerous licensing requirements then...oui?
@Snoopd201111 жыл бұрын
Because they are huge at 100%. I've been to a fly in, and a 100% full scale Camel or Albatros...is... HUGE! Plus I think most people that build them are hobbyist, its expensive and time consuming to build an airplane, so the less plane the more chance you have to complete it. Plus this one you can push into your garage. But yeah, full scale, exact proproportions, and attention to detail 100% rocks, there's nothing like it for true realism. This replica above, for example, the cowling and proportions are wrong, to make up for the difference center of gravity

Mon amour, because ze respect do I have for your opinion, 'Snoopd2011'...ah...did ze dog-SNOOPY, for certain, aerate 'Le Baron rouge' (Red Baron)...& his aeroplane? I be led to fancy, as it is a Yankee thing, that this thing you would know. Do not experience em-bare-ass-ment if you do not...C'est la vie ! BTW, SO many German friends do proudly notice, and are gleeful, for ze 'RB' pizza's that you have there!

It would be more reassuring to see this plane recovering from a flat spin, than lazily flying in a straight line. I can throw a rock and it will fly in a straight line until gravity takes over....

People who are ignorant to the thrill of building and controlling an actual flying vehicle always have to make these ignorant comments. I am sure you can go watch a movie about dogfights and satisfy your needs.
