I had an Airedale, she was affectionate, funny, obedient, sweet, loyal and loved everyone (except one repairman that came to the house), never had a problem with her. We miss her terribly. I think I would have a hard time changing breeds.

If an Airedale doesn't like someone there will be a reason, trust the dog. I've had an Airedale push one workman out of the garden, just him not the others doing the work. Just shouldered him and herded him out of the gate. Not the only person he did that to. The neighbour's burglar had a really bad night too.

Im on to Airedale no3. Just the most beautiful, freindly, manipulative, daft crafty, funny, greedy, sociable dogs Ive ever owned or met. I learnt in time,you dont own an Airedale, he just graces your presence. Theres times I feel like his butler. But what you get back is priceless in uncon ditional loyalty. Im bias but I Iove em. Bawled my eyes out when the last two passed on. Not crowned 'King of the Terriers' for nothing.

Yes i'm looking at these 3. I've had the airedale terrier and they are wonderful beyond fantastic. Airedale was the most easily going, clowney, funny dog, trusting, can't imagine a better dog than Airedale. Very compatible with Jack Russell Terrier. Yes need bigger yard for Airedale.

I've always had Airedales. I have M.S., so when I started falling my Airedale would stand by me and I would hold on to her/him and they would pull me up. Now they are more watchful and when I try to get up from a chair they have to be right there to help!

I know this is an old video now, but just for future reference, a welsh terrier was mated with an otter hound to produce the airdale terrier, so therefore you could say that the Airdale is a large Welsh terrier. The welsh is a much much older breed than the Airdale. Great video by the way. 👍

Sind eben die Roten und Black and Tan.... Das ist Menschliches Zuchtverständnis... Ich habe auch schon einen Otterhound gesehen... Sie sind wesentlich größer, auch größer als Airedales... I am getting an Airedale and I have been growing up with Airedale my neighbour’s had one and I used to go and pat it and I fell in love and I was 7 at the time and I have actually never heard of a Lakeland and welsh terrier before thanks for letting me know about this video but I do prefer Airedale’s because I grew up with them thank u for this video it helped me out a lot :)

The Welsh Terrier can be a complete lunatic. The Airedale is far more laid back, steady, and far more intelligent than any of the small terriers, or a collie for that matter (have both at the same time). The Airedale is so intelligent that they learn by example. The most important thing when training an Airedale is trust, and that goes both ways. Training an Airedale is therefore a bit different to other breeds. If you have had an Airedale before, you will not want the antics of a small terrier. Yes, the Airedale is larger, and the boys can be very large, but unless you need to pick them up, which is not often, they are perfectly manageable. We have another new Airedale puppy. He already sits on command and fetches, and at only 13 weeks is already bigger than a Welsh Terrier.

I train dogs for protection work and high level obedience training etc. I need a dog that isn’t the typical protection dog and I think the Airedale terrier is the one. My aunt had an Airedale named pickles when I was a kid and I have always loved the breed.

I have 2 Airedales, male and female. Full of energy, funny, loving, obedient not so much, they are very, very smart and know the things they can get from you. They read you very well. Love to run and play but also like their naps and bedtime routine. I am thinking of changing beds, our queen size bed is not enough for the four of us. 😂

My Airedales are very very obedient. My oldest one that almost 12 which was trained to be extremely obedient basically trained my 3 year old into being obedient. He copies her every move. Barely lifts his leg to pee because he has learned watching her from when he was a puppy.

My airedale Rufus is such a handful he can be very stubborn at times but also incredibly loving and loyal 💖 I love the breed so much and would love to have a Welsh or Lakeland terrier someday when i’m older that are a little more manageable than my big Airedale who can rest his head on or kitchen table!

That spin is a practice fighting technique that can send another dog flying, but Airedales never start the fight because the outcome is a foregone conclusion. If they do get forced to fight they will rarely hurt the other dog. When they greet a dog friend, they may spar, this is normal and best to let them romp around, it re-establishes pecking order. If they see a rat though, they stop being the teddy bear.

I love my Airedale i feel the outcomes with dogs I dependent on the owner and the time they spend with them. Good leadership is a must if a Welshy is anything like an Airedale i would have one in a heartbeat. No doubt Lakelands are also lovely dogs. Ive also owned 3 Fox Terriers also lovely bread thanks for the video

Terriers are smart but stubborn. They were bred to hunt independently and because of that they have minds of their own. I had a Yorkshire terrier. The smartest but most hard-headed little dog. ❤️

Stubborn sometimes and not really happy interacting with other dogs. The plus and minus of Airedale or Welsh (I always tag them as their "cousins") vs Fox?

Lakelands have a long-standing reputation of being "fiery"...more so than the Welsh. I have been "in terriers" all my life, and this is frequently true, but it doesn't mean Lakelands will be always be dog-aggressive. Socializing them early is very important. Border Terriers and Dandie Dinmonts generally mix well better with unfamiliar dogs, they tend to be more relaxed, but all dogs are individuals like people.

Yes, they are pretty much the same, the Welsh Terrier tend to be little bit friendlies and they are probably little bit easier to train as well.

My Airedale, Astra Sentorian, was beyond amazing. She and I spent summers together swimming in the lake and running around the backwoods of Florida filled with blackberry bushes and tangerine trees. My best friend and shadow. When middle school rolled around it became apparent she needed more attention than we could provide to keep her challenged and fit. They are goal oriented type dogs. She was taken in by a major ranch owner and became the matriarch of a long legacy of property and livestock management Airedale pedigree workers. Very independent. They are always one step ahead of whatever you are doing and want to do. Such good puppers for sure.

Lakeland!!!! I had the best! His name was Sydney. He was a bit snippy in his older age and would bark “under his breath.” I kid you not, it was a gargling bark, but we just said he was cussing us out when we told we were correcting him. We trained him VERY early so we didn’t have any issue there. He just got sick in the last few years. I love that dog!!! #Family #LakelandALLDay

Rocadog hi I understand what you said. However, some people believe that Welshies were bred to create a mini Airedale. The point I was making was that if there was any relationship either way, then it is more likely that the Welsh was used in the Airedale bloodlines. Similarly in the past unscrupulous breeders used welshies to improve Lakeland bloodlines. This is why the UK Kennel Club does not recognise the the darker red colour, in the Black and Tan Lakeland’s.

I like terriers, but it bothers me the way dog people are not honest about them. The dog show people say things like "they like to CHASE the cat" NO SIR, they WILL kill your cat and often they don't get along with other dogs. Especially male to male--and the words, INTACT male to male. If you must have more than one, trust me on this one thing--mix the sex; get a fixed male and a fixed female. But they still will get into it at one time or other. One of the top breeders of the Irish Terrier spoke to me, and turned me down when I wanted one--because I have two Shetland Sheepdogs; she put it this way "oh know, they WILL hurt your Shelties" and then she said "I am NOT saying the terrier will WIN every fight, I am saying they will START every fight--then fight to the death". I wish people understood this. Let me tell you--get one, then you will know it too.

Sorry, wrong. My lakeland is extremely friendly with almost all dogs. Its a common misconception that Lakelands are less friendly than Welsh or other dogs. Just wrong. Mine is extremely friendly with dogs and children.

Don't confuse biddable and intelligent. I've had many dogs. My Airdale was by far the most intelligent. Yes the family shepards (German and border) were biddable and smart but my Airdale was more intelligent though problematic
