Finally thrown their hat into the ring - ? ! Airfix first introduced the B.17G in 1962 - ! It was 'A Bit o' Lace' based at Rattlesden in Suffolk. With respect, you need to do your homework young man - !

Maybe it's a lousy kit, and Airfix HAVE thrown in the towel.

Bought this model today. I had a silver Tamiya spray can to use, I'll use it on this model. I only had one part off the sprue, which was the prop. I wish Airfix would put the sprues into separate bags. Just went back to model making recently after being out it for a while. I've got a bit of time on my hands at the moment I've been told to get a hobby. I've just went back to model making. I'm happy with the model.

What about no pito t tubes, just like the Revell Germany kit. How can a manufacture make such an error

It seems to be a common thread with new(2016/17) airfix kits that they lack riveting detail. I wonder if this is due to the scale effect (rivets being too small to be noticed or molded) or something else. I wonder if Airfix should put the rivets on regardless of if they would be too small or not just to keep the modellers expectations of "well there should be some" or to stick the scale effect and leave most of them off..

Neil Smalley yeah it seams as if people are in over their heads in complaints about surface detail. "Too big panel lines"... what I really hate is when people complain about rivets not being to scale and then complain about not having rivet detailx

With the amount of rivets on one of these aircraft I think it would detract from the overall appearance If Airfix had put them all on. From the builds Ive seen of this kit it looks just fine without them.

What constitutes "To Scale" when talking 1/72? Or even 1/48? As a real world aircraft mechanic, panel lines shrunk by a factor of 72 would be almost invisible 'to scale". Pretty much anything would look like trenches blown up to 1/1. I have to favor Shep Paine's "Impressionistic" approach on this....(I work A-10's mostly, with a lot of time on F-16's, T-38's, and some transient time on US Navy stuff)

We have approx. 40 years of riveted model kits from Airfix for those interested in having them on the kit. Indeed Airfix was famous.... (or is that infamous) for their riveted panels. I am personally glad that Airfix seem to have got rivets and raised panel lines out of their system. Their new tooled kits are as good, if not better than anything from the other leading brands...(but not half as costly in price). Go forth and multiply Airfix...

This is the only link that allows comment that I know of so I'm using it to comment about that Star Wars landspeeder video. What's going on? That kit is clearly about 1/24 scale...seriously, 1/14 is bull. The fact you did not pick up on that bugs me a little. I can't believe you all ignore that.

If you're used to the precision of Tamiya/Eduard, you might be surprised by the vague molding and massive sprue attachment points in this kit (especially on the clear parts).

i heard mentioned that prints could be a welcome 2d touch to a 3d model.I have a set of about 25 plus 'WARPLANE" Collection prints, they are huge. All the iconic aircraft and helicopters are represented.Never removed from tubes they were delivered in.Am willing to swop for any spare plastic you may have spare.i could sell but them and buy a decent model or two but thats not me.There something i have no use for,if i can swop for something you have no use for (armour kit?) darron epsom

Hello (sorry I don't know your name) I love your reviews, they are really detailed. Speaking of WW 2 American bombers, do you have any idea whether Airfix has plans to launch a new tool B-24? The one they market nowadays is pretty old and lack a lot of details (the canopy does not have the frame lines), so I've been having a hard time building it. Thanks a lot. Alex

Airfix produced the B17 model in the early 1970s, before anyone else. I remember building it.

I noticed that the kit includes the retractable BTO (bBomb Thru Overcast) radar for the ball turret position AS WELL AS an H2S radome (on the clear sprue tree) for a possible RAF Fortress III version. (Probably with 100 group markings!) OR for a SAR Fortress. If I still built 1/72 scale kits, I would be all over this kit, like today. But my eyesight just won't wear stuff that small anymore....

The 1974 Revell-Monogram kit is still the best B-17G out there. Much more imposing in 1/48 scale too.

You are kidding, right! revell monogram make the worst fitting kits ever...worst alignment, sink holes, raised panel lines instead of sunken....etc etc.
