Interesting to check the span, the Matchbox model had the clipped wings of the tanker conversion, interesting if this does have the true full span of the B2 variant and they will then need to trim the span for the K2 variant.

Wow, Airfix has come a long way since I was a kid. I still remember the sixties model of the 1/72 Stuka which had the legs, wheel pants and wheels all molded as one single solid piece or the 1/72 spitfire with solid molded one-piece wings. Anyone else remember those?

Can you tell me why if at all possible why Tamiya stopped making there model plane kits in the 1/24 or 1/29 scale like they used to back in the 1980s/ 90s

22:27 Looks like they have moulded sympathetic internal recessing on the reverse side of recessed panel lines; in order to prevent sink marks caused by shrinkage. Also to add some strength. Clever! These were raised on the Matchbox/Revell models. It looks excellent, £60 sure is a lot of money. But it is a big kit. Airfix look like they are trying to keep up with the oriental boys.

They are actually the locating tabs for the internal spars to keep those big wings from sagging. The plastic spars seen here, 22:39 the holes match the tabs on the wings. And as clearly shown on 6:22 steps 28 and 29 of the instructions

Having watched this I can tell you have never seen the Victor at Cosford. One of the most notable features of it is the texture on the paint... Think artex. sanded down a bit but artex never the less. The kit is actually a really good effort at modeling it. The wing tip glass is a great way to solve the problem of having nothing to glue to tip light to... Something you would know if you knew the real thing there is a square hole next to the light, so yeah I like the tip clear parts.

Judging by the separate wingtips I'd be inclined to anticipate a K.Mk 2 at some point

The skin texture could be some form of anti-flash, shockwave or radiation reflective finish on the genuine article, or it could just be a manufacturing tool defect, just an idea. If one ejector pin mark is all that you can find I think that is a pretty good attempt by airfix to eliminate one of model builders biggest gripes, it is probably the one thing we can all agree upon being the most tedious and annoying thing to have to do before the serious build begins.

I can swear I built a kit like this from Lindberg or similar back in the late 70's or early 80's. Is this possible? It wasn't a large kit.
@paladin568 жыл бұрын
Yes. Lindbergh produced a 1/96th scale kit of the Victor B1 (sort of) in the 1950s. I've built it too. I believe they produced a Vulcan too in the same scale.

Damn you Phil....I had set my heart not to want this one, not to like it and what do you do....you change my mind for me....bollocks....I really want one now! 😄 Another excellent review in a string of many! Do we dare hope for a Valiant and a Vulcan in the future? 😉 😄

They released a new tool Valiant not that long ago. Their Vulcan is the old 1980s tooling, of course.

I appreciate that this video is from 2016 and I don’t know what your views on airfix packaging are today in 2022, however, as we now all appreciate there is a drive to be more economical with resources, recycling and sending things to landfill sites that are not biodegradable, and you, in this time period, are advocating for more packaging, for individual sprue plastic bags, thicker cardboard for boxes 📦 making them less flimsy, if manufacturers were to do that then their production costs go up, and that means more expensive kits, it also means more raw materials used in manufacturing the plastic bags and boxes, higher energy consumption for manufacturing the bags and boxes, transportation of the increased qty of bags and boxes, the same goes for the kits being delivered to shops etc, the increased weight of one complete kit is minuscule but multiply that by the lorry load and fuel consumption does go up. I also appreciate that you are looking at this as purely a consumer and model builder so those changes make sense, but look at it from the ecological and economic standpoint and you might have a rethink on your position. Personally I don’t mind there being more than one sprue in a bag, yes sometimes it can lead to scratching of parts but again that isn’t an issue as long as it can be rectified by me, if not it doesn’t take much to contact the manufacturers customer service department and get a part replaced, just recently I was given a Revell Harrier GR1 anniversary set that didn’t have the free paints glue and brush included (not a problem for me I don’t use them but my grandson does) a quick email to Revell and without any questions replacement items arrived just a few days later from Revell GMBH Germany, great service, and I expect that most major manufacturers would be the same. Sorry about the rant, and that it is perhaps irrelevant, I would have made this comment on a newer video but it appears that you have turned comments of on the recent uploads, could you possibly say why you have done that or had to do it, it is very frustrating as that is how free exchanges of tips, ideas, techniques and feedback can flow. Sorry again for the rant, soapbox put away and spleen vented, and aside my rant thanks for a great unboxing/review. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴🇺🇦
