It would be nice to see some of these old airliners back out, especially in the classic liveries of airlines that in some cases no longer exist. These old airliners bring back memories of my earliest days in the hobby because they represented planes i would have seen on a regular basis, and there was so much variety in airliner design back then.

Hit the nail on the head, once again, Mos. This BAC One Eleven and the SE 210 Caravelle are perfect for 'membership' into the Airfix Vintage Classics range. Apart from being nice models for their time, (and still are), considering their scale, it's the artwork that does it for me. Pure class.

I watched my sister fly off to Germany to have a holiday with my uncle and aunt in the summer of 1969 on a BUA 1-11. He was with RAFG. It all seemed very exotic back then. If Airfix released it with BUA markings, I think I might be tempted.

i think they will release it in original markings when it comes to VC's

@MOS6510Models The one in the red stripe box you showed was British United, so that would work. 😉 I know some of the old Airfix stuff is crude, I have the Belvedere on my bench atm. I love them, though, and would happily buy as many as they can release. I was a bit disappointed in the 2024 release schedule for them. The cars, the big hovercraft, and the historic figures are all on my wants list.

Love this kit Mos - I built the first version of the British Caledonian livery as I had been on one the year before. Would love to see it back - but I will only buy one in B-Cal livery as I don't build airliners normally - just the ones I have flown on.

I have a couple of suggestions for 'vintage classics'. The 1/72nd Lysander was a good kit, but is remebered for the inclusion of the spy figure carrying the case. Possibly containing his escape kit - as depicted in the cards for the 'Escape From.Colditz' board-game of the 1970s. Only worth it if they include the downed pilot / spy! The SRN4 Hovercraft. A classic kit! If this were to get rereleased, it would.be great if there could be an additional part that could be used instead of the glass half of the roof that was smooth to allow a clear view of the detailed interior. It would be nice to have the option of building the kit as an accurate depiction of the historic hovercraft. In general I wish the vintage classics came with the styrene in the original colour. The WWI Dogfight Double would be a must-buy if the Fokker triplane was red and the British figther was in green. I love the channel and your enthusiasm is infectious ;)

It is really annoying that many airliners no longer come with clear plastic for the passenger portals. The modeller has to use lots of filler before applying decals over the portals.😮
@johnirwing25715 ай бұрын
Personally, don’t fill, apply decal, when dry puncture the decal and remove excess then fill with PVA which dries clear.

Ryanair use the much later Romanian built stretched versions so cannot be made from this kit without major surgery... nose, wings and rear APU exhaust also need to be corrected even if wanting to build the standard short version.

@@MOS6510Models That was my first model after a 35 year gap - loved it but it nearly broke me - would love to see Airfix sort the fit issues and put it back out. But I expect there's too much fixing in it.

I had one of these in my youth . I think it ended up in Cambrian Bright Orange livery ! Always thought they should have released it in the later BUA ochre and teal hockey stock livery , as the decals were already out of date by 1967 . A series 500 , which had a longer fuselage would have been great too . I’m told by those that know that the nose is not quite the correct shape , I think it should be slightly longer . But certainly if this was released again id buy one or two - not in that British United Scheme , though . Maybe Dan Air , Aer Lingus , later BUA or BCal. With regard windows , I’d prefer they’d fill the windows in and just use decals
@MOS6510Models5 ай бұрын
with Vintage classics i think its released with the nostalgia of building it the first time round giving us a second chance to build it again lol

Definable, but a new tooling would be nice to correct the inaccuracies, and also do a -500 variant
@MOS6510Models5 ай бұрын
would be nice to see any plane in the airfix release too :)|
@GRAHAMAUS5 ай бұрын
I'd like to see it re-released, but one problem with it is that it represents the early -200 variant, not the later (and more common?) -500 variant, which was much stretched. It means that decal sets such as those from 26 Decals aren't appropriate. Obtaining a -500 variant means a resin kit and they're not really for beginners. So a better idea would be to make some new tools for classic airliners - I'd love an accurate Comet, both 1 and 4 versions (the classic Comet kit from Airfix is woefully inaccurate). VC-10, Trident, 1-11, 707, 720, 737s and 727s, Britannias, Viscounts and Vanguards. Even better would be all of those in 1/72 scale. But I don't think the size of the potential market would justify it.

*A good old kit, "snap snap" and the build is finished! A pity for the old decals sheet which is the bad element of this vintage kits.*
@emmabird97455 ай бұрын
Hi Mos, you have discovered a truth. In the 1960s Airfix kits fitted together well. All this talk I hear of old kit didn't fit together is just not true. Perhaps some reissues are based on damaged moulds but in the 60s they were fine. I agree with you that the old style instructions were so good, taught one what various parts are called. Unfortunately they didn't tell us to weight the nose, if I get one a lump of lead will find its way in the nose so that you won't need to have the airstairs (the ladder at the back) to hold the tail up. I hope they would not leave the windows out, it simply would not do. Remember, they managed new windows for the Auster Antartica (I had one of those back in the day too). Finally I had a Sud-Aviation Caravelle in this series (original boxing ) for one christmas/birthday or other and if Airfix reissued that I would certainly buy one of those. PS I am enjoying your 'vintage vids'.
@MOS6510Models5 ай бұрын
yes i noticed in the later instructions you would but some weight in it
