Oh the memories. I had Airfix model Hood , Bismark, Ark Royal and Belfast and KGV (I think it was) I had a large pond at my parents house and I bought these models with the intention of making them completely water tight to leave them out on the pond full time. Only Bismark and Belfast I could get to stay upright in the water. The rest the weight was wrong having used a vast amount of glue to keep them water tight on assembly I could not disassemble them to sort out the weight to get em to float upright so they stayed with my Airfix planes in my room. Bismark and Belfast over the years turned a bit green but they always stayed upright and never sank. About 10 yrs they were on that pond and even ice did not kill em.

Glad I'm not the only one to drill out all those portholes :) Yep, Vintage Classic usually means same ole experience from your past. Some of the Armour kits are a lot of clean up. But effort gets rewarded.

Lot of fun to be had with these old kits. Nicely done! Have a look around for etched brass fittings. Really brings them to life. It's the armour belt. Torpedo bulges are generally much bigger and built outside the Hull proper.

very helpful video, I couldn't work out what to do with the lifeboats on the starboard side. this video was the only one I could find with a solution to it.

beware of taping glued joints , as the glue can spread underneath and end up where you don't want it to be !

Nice. I like to use Tamiya extra thin for most jobs but prefer Revell's Contacta for the bigger surfaces, and also have a very thick Revell cement that is ideal for tasks like this, putting together halves of hulls, wings etc.

So with these "vintage" re-releases I'm curious, are they just the old kit re-released exactly the same as before, or do they at least have better moulding (less flashing, etc)? From what I saw in the video you the kit is lacking a lot of detail so I'm assuming they really haven't brought up the old kit to modern standards.

My understanding is they are using the same moulding as before or just re-box the old kits. and yes they haven't brought the old moulds update.

@@CaptPugwashProductions Agree. I've bought a few of these 'Vintage' range and yes, they're the old moulds, so, expect poor a quality finish and a fair bit of flash.

Indeed. Have several of the re released Airfix models and they are the old moulds, so plenty of suspect quality about the final product with a fair bit of flash and sink marks to have to deal with. My vintage bus and Dennis fire engine are two typical examples, a lot of refinishing work to do on each one.

I tend to avoid the re-boxed kits. The moulds are so worn out in a lot of cases that the quality is very suspect. I bought a Buccaneer (before the new version) and the moulding was so bad I just ended up throwing it away. I did, however, buy a couple of very old (blister pack) Chipmunks - and they went together very well. Back then the moulds were not so worn out.

I built all the railway kits for DAPOL , when they put them on-line , these are mainly 60's ( some even older .) they did manage to "re-fettle " some of the moulds , but it is a difficult and not perfect solution ! problem with the locomotives was the holes get "smaller " while the pins which fit into them tend to get "bigger " , just an example .
