10/10 mate. The dodge with the wash and crew figure was a god send cos I hate doing pilots / aircrew. Thanks for the hard work and share my friend.

Nice Job. So much to talk about...I like the detail of painting the pilot..I do it the same way and yes very true when you put the wash on the magic does happen. I feel encoyraged to paint pannel lines. I think I was a bit reluctant to do this. I think I'll have a go..Great job and thank you really enjoyed the upload..
@garys_stuff2 жыл бұрын
Thing is Craig, if you do the panel lines with a wash you can always get rid of it with water. Then either have another go or not as you wish. Before you varnish it, of course…🤣

I've just startrd building the starter version of this kit and found something interesting while researching. The Mitsubishi built versions didn't have Aotake in the wheel wells. They were the same colour as the surrounding area with black main landing struts. The Nakajima built ones are the ones with the Aotake coating in the wheel wells.
@garys_stuff2 жыл бұрын
That is very interesting - you'd have thought there was a standard to which they all had to adhere - but that is good info thanks!

Havent built a model.for 40 years and tried the zero as mynfirst one. If it wasnt for thisnvideo i would have given up and walked off half way so thank you for the insights. For me those were the hook of the pilots chair. Get that right and the two sides come together. The engine was confusing and i still.could.not get it to fit into the aircraft so pushed itninto then cowling and glued it all. Seemed to work but i know the fit should have been better. Next time will watch the video first then try

Hi Gary love this build, can you tell me what glue you use and how do you get the painted parts to stick i have terrible trouble trying to do this. thank you
@garys_stuff20 күн бұрын
Hi, I use either Revell Contacta cement or Tamiya Extra thin cement for pretty much everything. I have never had any issues with sticking - just make sure you don't have too much paint on the parts and try to keep bits that will go together (like fuselage halves) reasonably clean. Normally I only paint the interior bits, the outside might have primer on it (a spray primer like Jenolite Acrylic for Plastic) but I only use a gently spray of it.

Dear Gary, I can't see what glue or weld you use with much of the interior parts. Would you be kind as to tell us what all glues you bring to bear on the interior components of you r great models to make them sturdy enough? Often, ir looks as if you use nothing except for faint white stripe I can discern, Cheers and compliments on your long running series !
@garys_stuff Жыл бұрын
Most of the time I use Revell Contacta or Tamiya Extra Thin depending on the piece. With interiors and structural pieces it is normally more the Contacta.

I've built Airfix's Swordfish,Gladiator,Ju-87 and think their quality is very good. But compared to Tamiya's zero... in my opinnion Airfix have some minuses like, flat control panels, closed canopy and less elaborate overall design (Tamiya would never make you do things like 11:04 ) It would be interesting to see how good is Airfix Wildcat compered to one from ArmaHobby. Why are you so dedicated to Airfix by the way? Looks like they are the only manufacturer you are buying your kits from.
@garys_stuff2 жыл бұрын
They are the only ones I have bought recently - I got quite a lot in one go - and I try to keep on top of new releases. However, I do have others in the pipeline. There's a really lovely Gaspatch Me-163 in 1/48, for example, that I'm really keen to do soon. In my last project (before KZbin sadly) I made all the aircraft flown by my father's squadron in the Fleet Air Arm. Only the Buccaneers and the Harriers were Airfix, the rest were all kinds including CMK Resins (the Nimrod II, what a nightmare). You can see those builds on my blog called The 800 Squadron Project. I am very tempted to redo it in 1/48th - as soon as someone does a Scimitar at that scale anyway! BTW, I am going to do the new Airfix Tempest V when it comes out, and compare it to the fairly new KP version at the same scale. Cheers, Gary

I can't speak for the ArmaHobby Wildcat but, having done the Airfix one it's a really neat little kit......I did it as part of the 'Dogfight Double' with their lovely Nakajima Kate.

what brush size you put on the mustache and the eyes?
@garys_stuff2 жыл бұрын
Reasonably small, say around a size 0, but it is the quality of the point that is most important for fine work.

Hi Gary.. I've just had a nosey online and the /new/ Humbrol 90 is allegedly beige green. I suspect the kit refers to the new paint range. Why they'd change colour for the same number is a mystery.
@garys_stuff2 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't be the first time....it is an issue when they change the colour numbers while still supplying older paints with gift sets! I'll look inside the Zero i just got from Lidl...

That's the perennial issue with this, especially the smaller scales where the thickness of the canopy is so out of scale!

What wash do you use?

For this kit I just used very dilute black paint from the box. But for most uses I use Vallejo Model Wash.
