I built the previous version of this kit, the MkXVI and found the jig for the undercarriage worked very well. What you need to do is build the undercarriage up before you put the wings together. This means you don't have to struggle getting them in and out of the nacelles as you put them together. All you need to do then is put them in a safe place until you are ready to install them. I bought this version as well as I love the Mosquito. I'm currently doing the Tamiya FB Mk.VI/NF Mk.II and you can see the advantages of a newer tooled kit when comparing the two.

Great video and nice build. About the AK 3rd gen... Use it with its own thinner and thin it 50/50 or even 40/60 and do multiple thin coats, passes.

I've found the AK 3G RAF Night as a habit of splattering. I've thinned it with 40% AK thinners, 20psi, 0.4mm nozzle in an H&S Infinity. It wasn't any better at 12psi, 15psi or 30psi. Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics don't give me any issues. It's frustrating, yet once dried, it looks pretty good.

@@markstott6689 Seems like every manufacturer has a color or two which doesn't want to behave the way it should. I love mission models paints, but I found that their greens, especially the darker ones are really pigment heavy and flow very differently than others and that it's hard to get a nice even coverage. Perhaps it's a bad batch and something is not right with that paint mix. Or that the darker a color is, the more pigment heavy the paint is going to be.

@@rogueplastic I've had the same issue with AK 3G Grey primer. It doesn't come out in a fine mist, yet it settled down with perfect coverage. At least the final look is great. I've still got to spray the RAF Dark Green and Dark Earth yet. Fingers crossed it settles just as well.

Looks awesome, RE the blue switch to AK Real Colors, Tamiya, or Mr Color. Thin any of those with Mr Color Leveling Thinner, makes you look like an expert, although I appreciate alcohol based and lacquer based sprays aren't for everyone.

@@machmodels you'd need a booth, but the alcohol based ones are brilliant, and the lacquer ones are just awesome. Thin both with Mr Color Leveling Thinnerand and it is game changer. Preferably not with metallics, Mr Color Rapid thinner is better for those.

I’m with Mark there. AK Real Colors are fantastic. I love AKs colour range but was awfully disappointed with their acrylics. I got rid of all of them and now use their Real Colors range. Love them. Also don’t discount Mr Color and Tamiya lacquers either. Fantastic hard paints. Mr Color Mr Surfacer primer is also good stuff.

Nice kit! What air pressure was you spraying at? Harder and Steinbeck recommend 2bar(29psi). I use their brushes exclusively and find 25psi is a good place for AK/Model Air paint. Anything less I was getting the same as you on some paints.

I have a suggestion about thinning paint. (But TEST this on something you don't need FIRST!!) Buy some 'Mr Color Levelling' Thinner. This is a Laquer thinner, but "Should" thin both enamels and Acrylic paints without any issues - BUT not always. An Alternative - IF Tamiya Lacquers Paints etc are available, use their "Lacquer Thinner with Retarder" Or you can use any Lacquer thinner (Cheaper and add some Tamiya Lacquer Retarder (Comes in a small bottle). Thin the paint until is is about the same consistence of either Skim Milk or even fat free milk. (Ie almost water) This should mist onto the model lightly and you can build up two or 3 coats and still have control over the look of the model's paint. Personally, I use both pre- and post-shading with his technique. But I cannot stress enough how important it is to TEST first - SOME brands of acrylic paint react badly to Lacquer Thinners. Mix a small pot in a disposable cuplet and leave it a few minutes first - it may coagulate into a horrid lump! If not, test in your airbrush but make sure you have a reputable Airbrush cleaner fluid on hand. If all works as normal, you can clean up with the thinner easily enough. BTW, when painting Red the best colour to base it on is yellow. White can "Bleed into the red, giving it a "pink" appearance. I haven't tried a Pink base for red- yet, but a Pink Primer is available from Mr Color.

Brilliant videos and model finish. Just wondering how you get such a finish on the paint. I'm noticing that my models after 6 months the paint finish is cracking like if paint is left in sunlight, even though they are primed , painted and varnished. . Any ideas. Thank you Graham

I suffered from something rather similar with some odd finishes with water based finishes, I recently transferred over the mr hobby lacquers and my goodness what a difference! Such a smooth and durable finish so if you can I’d look to invest in some of that! SMS is also a great option if you don’t want to thin down your paints😆
