One of the most impressive features associated with the enduring legacy of the Spitfire is how its basic design was able to be adapted and upgraded so effectively throughout the Second World War and how the final variants of this magnificent aircraft were far more capable that the ones which first arrived at RAF Duxford during the summer of 1938.

With the Spitfire undergoing almost constant development to enable it to stay at the forefront of fighter technology during WWII, this vital work was interrupted by the introduction of the Luftwaffe's fearsome new Focke Wulf Fw190 in 1941, an aircraft which was superior to the Spitfire Mk.V which was in widespread service at the time. A new Spitfire variant, the Mk.VIII, was at an advanced stage of development at the time, however, actual production was still some way off, as manufacturing jigs had not been installed in factories at that time. A stop-gap solution proved to be the introduction of the hybrid Mk.IX, an aircraft which fortunately proved to be something of a revelation and more than a match for the Focke Wulf.

This is brilliant and the schemes are excellent, but I would have loved a Hawker Typhoon 1:24 re-release for the 80th anniversary of D Day. I think most modellers are history buffs and we love a tie-in.

I love the SEAC and the 457 RAAF squadron colour schemes I was hoping for the Spitfire Mk.9E 1/24 but the Mk.Viii looks fine.

I love the 152 Hyderabad version . My Dad flew with the Sqn and part designed the Panther on the side of the Mk 8 Spitfire his planes number was UME. I this will be of help to anyone? Cheers Richard Duval.

Stand by for the usual suspects announcing their new spitfire yawnfest multipart build series. I don't think they've all finished the first one yet!! I think Airfix is getting this wrong. I'm not sure there's a big enough market for these markings. Unless you're an absolute die-hard Spit-bore, you're only going to be buying one of these kits (might only have room for one) and if you're going to have a Spitfire, it's going to be in RAF camo and markings (unless you're just doing it for Instalikes/monetisation). So stand by for this kit being heavily discounted in the future. Meanwhile, still no 1/48 Halifax

Yes you can...its over rated in my opinion...i understand its place in history but most of the raf bob kills were made by the hurricane​@radiationking9875

@@jaws848 Sure, I know the hurricane was more successful but we're on the same team so it's not a necessary argument at the end. It was obviously I'm the tooling to make a MkVIII so it was bound to happen eventually, hence why there was no buildup and also its business, spitfires sell very well and it all helps in generating income for something bigger.
