Great Show and interviews guys........ Except got totally distracted by the weird creased wallpaper with half an inch gap from the ceiling which looks like its been put over the top of a filled in pallet by a billboard paster! (def need a better decorator!!), sealed cork tops on the glass jars, lack of light bulb in the one lamp and cable tied power cord on the other..... Guessing it was some kind of 'Pop Up' conference room? either that or a 'Spot the errors game for rivet counters' lol.....

Really interesting talk. Particularly enjoyed the discussion of space subjects. Personally I'd love to see modern space themed kits, I'd buy each and every one. I agree with Gary that there's less public interest in space than in the past but frankly interest in the military subjects currently modelled is from a small minority of the public. If we want to attract more people into the hobby, we need to get rid of this perception that "it's all just war machines". I enjoy building some military models but I would love to see more non-military subjects; I buy almost every civil kit that gets released (Shannon for example; I bought three, two will be gifted as finished models) but half of the military subjects I buy are so I can build and paint a civil version (eg DHC Beaver, C-47 to DC-3). After a couple of decades in the defence industry etc I think I'm perhaps a little jaded and weary of the market being saturated by military modelling subjects, with very limited civil modelling options. For me general aviation subjects would be automatic buys, I'd love models of a Cessna 172, Piper Cherokee and Tomahawk, Pitts Special, Cubcrafters XCub, and other GA aircraft many of us have flown in real life or in simulators like MSFS, but kits for most of these are virtually nonexistent. Plus other non-military subjects like construction, engineering or agriculture, maybe even a return to railway kits? Animals and nature subjects? Plus subjects from TV and game franchises; Fallout, Dune, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, Vikings, One Piece, Futurama, Cyberpunk 2077 etc etc etc. Huge gaps in the market there, surely? Airfix used to have a fantastic range of interesting non-military kits - I'd love to see more of those and I think with those I could get more friends and family interested in the hobby, and experience the mental health benefits of scale modelling for themselves.

Well, this is a surprise find. Great show guys, i could've listened to you all for another hour. Reading other comments about going forwards to get new builders interested.. moving parts, yeah, lights.. it'd be like the Technics version of Lego. As for subject matter it's tricky to predict. The Spacex etc is fascinating. People love a show/spectacle so, stunt planes for example or extreme sports.

Yes yes yes! Stunt planes and even air races from Reno and other events, plus space and all sorts of other subjects. I like the comparison with Lego Technics too, that would be interesting to see 👍

Dale, you said it yourself, the thing that will get youngsters modelling is play value. Not just working tracks on a tank but folding wings, retractable gear, openning bomb doors etc etc and of course PILOTS. I'm only young (seventyish young that is) but I want moving bits. I also want figures (a lifeboat crew?). Sneering at moving bits on aeroplanes as "toys" is condemning all those railway modelers after all. What would I like to see you bring out? Well Vintage Classics of Lynx AH1 (with a G-Lynx option?), a Gazzelle, a Scout, Albatros. New, SE5A, Fokker DVII.

So pleased to discover I’m not the only one that hits a wall when building a model, my 1/24 Hurricane only needs another couple of hours of work but it has sat unfinished while I have got stuck into a couple of 1/72 kits (Spit and Mosquito). I will complete it tho!

I like that Airfix does not appear to have a matching glassware set 😀 It's great to see Gary and Mos on the chat by the way, really good edition! Seriously though, to me, Airfix is on a really good upwards trajectory, both in range and design. The only thing that needs fixing (In my opinion) is the QA as Airfix needs quality consitancy. It's probably isn't going to happen, but I do wish that that the kits were made in the UK, or at least Europe as currently QA can be...spotty at times. I've had replacement parts from Airfix support and they have been great, but I really dislike that sinking feeling when I discover a nasty short shot, and I really don't want a new modeller to be put off the hobby due to a bad part that affects the building experience. I'm happy with Spitfires as it's a money maker (I'm mentioning this due to the various posts about the Mk.VIII 1/24 kit). We call for kits like Hampdens and Halifaxes and all the other stuff (pleeeeeease do a new tool Halifax), but the Spitfires/Lancasters/Hurricanes/Mustangs etc. do (I'm assuming) keep the money rolling in, and hopefully that money will let Airfix work on less mainstream stuff.

Nice to see two of my favourite KZbin model builders in conversation. I'm probably too old now to know what would attract young people to build models, but the 1:43 car kits with the latest supercars were probably a move in the right direction. They don't appeal to me, but there's plenty of other stuff made by Airfix and others that does.

well said Gary. Making models is fun. I've only recently discovered making models, largely because of people like you on KZbin. Thank all, making models to a level that pleases me has been a massive help to my mental health.

I have to agree that models are mainly old WW2 planes. We need newer aircraft such as the space rockets and possibly TV shows. I understand that there may be issues with licensing. I think Airfix are missing out with a limited range. I am not that interested in Spitfires.

100% agree. I've built a few Spitfires etc but mainly because I just want to build *something* and there isn't much choice...

It seemed to me that a lot of the poses in the cowboy set are/were replicated in various of the WW1 & WW2, (the ones I remember from my long gone youth!). I must admit, the wagon train model looks interesting snd I could probably find a use for one, albeit for fantasy modelling. Interesting video, of a subject I've never had an interest in. But that may have changed!😂
