9:31 Alternate Law is a mode for the fly-by-Wire where it disables all stall protections (And any other automated protections) due to disagreeing speed/AOA data. Basically, when in alternate law, the flight computer will no longer push the nose down automatically to prevent a stall, nor will it stop you from pulling up INTO a stall.
@dinguslopper Жыл бұрын
Yep, and IIRC failure to understand this is a large reason why Air France 447 crashed. Iced pitot tube led to computer disconnecting autopilot and switching to alternate control law. The co-pilot didn’t realize he was repeatedly stalling the aircraft due to his belief that the flight computer wouldn’t let this happen- which would’ve been true if the system weren’t operating under alternate law. That investigation was such a fascinating lesson in the complex interplay between human factors and automation… it just really sucks that 228 people died before we learned it.

@@donborvio I think FBW are more to commend for this than MSFS. Frozen pitot tubes and the resultant effects on flight systems are definitely something that was coded specifically into the A320 model rather than hardcoded into the engine. The aircraft also has anti-ice as shown at 3:00

I've been flying in the MS Flightsim since 2000... it's incredible how far things went and what data masses our computers just swallow these days. I still got an install of the FS2002 on my harddrive, it really does not like modern hardware, getting like 30 fps with... well, 2002 optics. Meanwhile I run the MSFS, high graphics settings, at double that, with the PC using no more than 150 Watts.

I have 0 interest in flight sim in actuality, but when I had gamepass and MSF actually worked, I would just sit at an airport and have autopilot (attempt to) bring me from one place to another just to enjoy how amazingly beautiful the game was. It was always breathtaking looking at the clouds.

4:05 TIP: Your life would be a bit easier if you setup the aircraft for takeoff. The TO Config checklist is displayed on the ECAM, and when you throttled up you didn't have the Autobrakes set to Max, and the spoilers weren't armed. Also, when you set power for takeoff, you left the levers in CLB, where they should be in FLX/MCT or TOGA (should be TOGA considering the state of the runway). Leaving them in climb wont engage the autothrust and there wont be any FD guidance for takeoff, not to mention severely reduced thrust. In fact, during the takeoff roll you can see a Level 2 alert on the ECAM for setting the thrust levers to TOGA. You can see after rotation the FD fell back to VS mode, but without A/THR on the plane has a good chance of overspeeding unless you either increase your climb rate or reduce thrust. 8:10 Clearly a sim hiccup, which threw off the computers and knocked you back into alternate law.
