Airgun Hunting - Shooting feral pigeons with a Daystate Air Ranger

Team Wild have been called in to sort out a farm's feral pigeon problem. The barns are getting messy, with pigeon poo spoiling stored food and machinery. Whilst they're Daystate rifles, the scope featured was actually a Lightstream 4.5-14x44 - Ian's personal favourite airgun scope. Steve and Keith have bought their own Daystate Huntsman rifles fitted with MTC Scopes, but we have access to a wide range of manufacturers. Next week Ian will be hunting in Scotland with Air Arms, Theoben and Daystate rifles. He's also taking a range of Crosman rifles to South Africa and Zimbabwe including their awesome 300ftlb Rogue .357 for antelope and warthog!

Hi Chloe The list of Species exempt under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 are as follows: Greater Canada Goose, Crow, Dove Collared, Gull Great Black-backed, Gull Lesser Blacked-backed, Gull Herring, Jackdaw, Jay, Magpie, Pigeon Feral, Rook, Woodpigeon, these can all be controlled as pests.

I come back to watch this video every once in a while JUST for that tandem-kill at the begining. Try as I might, I've searched youtube for as many tandem-shots as possible, and very few are actual double-kills, and NONE had two seperate shooters. I've only done this once at about 15 with a friend and our air rifle's on a pair of sparrows. Tried and never done it again since lol. ANYHOW great video - keep them coming!

The Air Ranger we're using in the video is a sub-12fpe version in .177 calibre. I always zero for 35 yards with this calibre and muzzle energy.

No, we do it for fun - plus it opens up other hunting opportunities elsewhere if you help with vermin control. We eat as much of the game as we can, but certain animals are not edible - rats, foxes and some pigeons (depending on what they eat!)

Hi Geoffrey. I havent shot the Ultra but have a few friends that report that they are a very capable gun. Practice is the key to shooting any quarry. Make sure you can hit a 'head' sized target at different ranges and know your hold over or under at each range. Check out our Team Wild website for some 'How To' tips.

Army surplus...Used to wear it all the time...About 15 years ago!, but then got fed up of getting wet and cold whilst hunting so moved onto other gear. The gear we have on in this show is totally waterproof and windproof. We carry out fox control,deer stalking and other pursuits so we pretty much wear this gear all the time. Tracky bottoms?...Take a kneeling shot in a cowshed full of cowsh*t and see how you go on. I agree it could be non patterned though in this instance. ATB Keith

Hiya...The eternal question!...The .22 and .177 will kill pigeons, the guns we used in the show were .177 and are capable of taking out rats, pigeons, rabbits at 35 yards. I personally like the flatter shooting of the .177 (I'm lazy and it takes some of the guesswork out of the shot), but both will do the job. It's just down to which you prefer.
