In this video I'll show you how I optimize mobility on airgun hunts. We head out hunting on an e-bike, and I share my top 3 reasons to mix airguns and e-bikes! I'll start off explaining why I wanted to hunt on an e-bike, then explain my bike selection, take you along on a short squirrel hunt with an airgun, then wrap it up talking about modifications, rifle carry on an e-bike, and future plans.

Good morning Jim! E-Bikes are great, I've had one for almost 15 years now! Homemade! I have a trailer for mine as well that I use on bike tours that I do once in a while. I like a flatbed trailer that sits low that I can mount a Rubbermaid bin to that I can lock up & it's weatherproof. Go for the power upgrade, you'll be glad you did and remember one thing, 20 minutes out on an E-Bike can leave you hours of walking if you have a breakdown. Even it it doesn't work as well for hunting you'll love it for use around home and you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner. Biggest problem with an E-Bike is theft! A helmet feels goofy at first but you'll be glad you have one when you crash which will happen. My E-Bike & trailer are both on my channel. Mike.

Yeah, that extended range needs to be considered. I was thinking at one point when I was a few miles from the car and it started snowing, I should make sure I've got a robust emergency kit in case I got caught out and had to hunker down for a night.

Good to see this from you. I've been thinking of going in that direction since last years hunting season. I seem to pack more & more for longer travels and hunting time. The terrain in central, north central Minnesota can be very demanding. Although the time spent doing so is so incredible, at 64 years old an e bike is looking more and more attractive. Thanks for putting this out. Yes I would like to see more on this..

Thanks, It's fun and efficient. BTW: I am not the best at keeping up with the other airgun YTs out there, I spend so much time shooting, hunting, and editing alongside my professional life, that I don't have much time to follow others very closely. But based on your post I did a search and found Dana over at Mountainairgunsport has been airgunning on e-bikes for a while. He's a good guy, I met him a few years back at EBR, and credit where it's due, he's an OG with the e-bikes and looks like he's getting it dialed in.

We have 2 Aventon Aventure2s. Similar to yours with somewhat better features. We spend a lot of time in the woods with them. We only hunt with cameras and for mushrooms and such. They are awesome for covering more territory and will go about anywhere I would want to walk. I have a trailer that hauls all of my shooting gear to the local outdoor range about 7 miles away. The ebike is great for going downrange to check targets. It is a force multiplier for sure, especially for us older folks. I predict you will enjoys your very much!
@americanairgunhunter
@americanairgunhunter 9 ай бұрын
The problem the ebike will solve for me is that I hunt in some very large areas, and need to cover these so that I can go out on foot to actually hunt. On my first couple outings this has worked out well. What are the features that you think matter? I have thought a 1000v motor, or an extra battery, is there anything else you think is important to consider?
@gonerydin4225
@gonerydin4225 9 ай бұрын
@@americanairgunhunter The Aventure2 has 50# higher weight capacity, Torque sensor pedal assist (as opposed to cadence sensor) 8 speed vs 7. Higher max speed 28mph vs. 25) Superior fit and finish (invisible welds) And right now about a hundred bucks cheaper. We have over 1000 miles on the 2 of ours with zero issues so far. I know, I sound like a salesman. : ) The bike you have will serve you well.

@@gonerydin4225 This is new ground for me, I am an experienced (but out of practice) trail rider on standard mountain bikes but am in a steep learning curve with e-bikes. First thing for sure (for me) fat tires are the only way to go, and the 26"x4" tire looks to be about perfect. Will get studded tires for snow and Ice this winter. What provides the increased weight capacity, is it basically a function of motor size/voltage? I am guessing this becomes more apparent when pulling a trailer, can you tell me about the trailer you selected? Appreciate your feedback!

E-Bikes are great but so easy to have stolen. I will continue using my Honda quad bike with my silent muffler system for now. E-Bikes have a tendency to catch fire and the last thing I need is to burn down my hunting area. : )
@americanairgunhunter
@americanairgunhunter 9 ай бұрын
When traveling, I have a motorcycle rack modified to fit the bike and can lock that down pretty securely. From everything I've read, most fires occur with older or damaged lithium batteries when charging. I think that monitoring the battery health mostly mitigates the potential of the bike going up in flames. I plan to use this for nighttime predator hunting, and my thermal binos and thermal scope also use lithium batteries so need to keep an eye on all my gear.

I have thought about doing a camo paint job, a vinyl wrap, or using camo cloth tape. I am leaning towards the tape, because this bike will be used in the desert, forest, snow, etc.... and what's camo in one environment is a beacon in another.

Excellant video buddy really enjoyed it but you should have thought about weight capacity your bike is 350 or 300 pound weight limit and if you haul a hog or something of some weight you'll be pushing the limits they have bikes now with 400 pound weight limits.
@americanairgunhunter
@americanairgunhunter 9 ай бұрын
Thanks John, I have thought about that and don't know exactly how to determine the weight of a towed trailer. I've got about 125 lb leeway between my weight and the bikes weight limit. If I have a 100 lb pig in the trailer and the trailers weight 25 lb, does that hit the 350lb max of the bike? At any rate, if I need more I'll keep this as my small game bike and get a more powerful rig for the big game hunts :) I already tell my wife a man can never have too many guns or fishing rods...... I guess I can add e-bikes to that :)

From what I have read fires that start due to thermal runaway generally occur when the bike is charging but not always. Or in either low quality products or when damaged. You need to keep an eye on the equipment. ATVs also start fires, as do automobiles, campfires, smokers, etc.
