You know how "this is basically" works. All of the things he says are technically true but with most of the context removed and adding in a few memes from the fandom. A more serious description of P5's plot: MC got arrested for stopping a politician from sexually assaulting a woman on the street, but politician pulled strings to make him look like the bad guy. MC ends up put on probation and sent to a new school in Tokyo. Shortly after arriving, he gains the ability to enter people's mental worlds (because plot) and uses this to essentially brainwash criminals into confessing their crimes, starting with the gym teacher who was abusing students. MC and friends (including a talking cat from the mental world) become infamous due to their method requiring a semi-public announcement of "stealing the desires" of the person they are taking down, becoming known in the news as The Phantom Thieves. Eventually they end up using a fan website their classmate/fanboy set up to begin targeting bigger criminals based on public polls. BTW, it's a great game worth streaming but if you do be ready to spend a LONG time doing so, this game is upwards of 80 hours and that's the vanilla version. The updated re-release has extra content added to the end of the main story that adds two new alternate endings depending of how far into it you decide to go (assuming you trigger the flags for it, otherwise you get the original ending).

Trains are in fact the main form of transportation in the Erebonian Empire, so they do play a pretty large part in the setting. Trails of Cold Steel is the third part in the Trails series. First is Trails in the Sky, which is 3 games, then you have the Crossbell duology of Trails to Zero and Trails to Azure. Trails to Azure takes place basically during the ending of the first Cold Steel game, and continues into the events of Cod Steel 2, with both their final battles happening at about the same time. So the first two games are not exactly pointless, it’s just that the plans the villains have are really long term, so it takes four games for them to do their full plans. But they do recap a lot of info about the first two in the third game.

:2:12 Story synopsis- protag stops a woman from being assaulted only to be brought on charges by the highly corrupt politician doing the assaulting. He is let out on probation, and goes to a new school only to discover a mysterious way to enter a "Palace", a mental landscape superimposed on the real world by the heart of someone with highly distorted desires. After the action of one such Palace owner cause a girl in his school to attempt suicide he gathers some friends to enter the Palace and "steal the heart of the Palace owner"- basically a physical manifestation of their desires. By removing these "treasures" from a person's mind they dramatically alter a person to no longer be warped by their desires and drive criminals to confess their crimes due to the resultant feelings of guilt and loathing left behind after the theft. Most of the game is based around targetting various horrible people while trying to understand the mystery of how and why the Palaces exist.

The Trails games all take place in the same world. So the stories and characters from different subseries cross over a lot. I'm pretty new to the series but if you like JRPGs I recommend playing them, because the character development and worldbuilding captured me from the first moment! I've only played the first two Cold Steel games so far. They were basically meant to be one game, but got split up because of the gigantic size it had. So the first game starts off a bit slow and is mostly the setup and worldbuilding for the story arc that goes into full speed in the second game. Some characters and books you can read in CS1&2 mention events from the Trails in the Skies series, so it made me want to play those as well. And I want to do it before I start CS3, because I heard that you can meet characters from the older series in CS3&4(which seem to be one long story arc again) and I want to know who they are before that happens. The games have a lot of text, because all of the NPCs say new things AFTER EVERY MAJOR STORY PROGRESSION. Of course you can ignore it all and only play the mainstory, but sometimes they give you recipes or hidden sidequests and some of the rewards are really good. There are a lot of different mechanics in the games and most of their effects stack, so it is possible to build characters that can onehit bosses or evade every attack. You don't really need to grind unless you want to have more money or max out the friendship with all characters(really slow to do with battles, so I recommend just doing the friendship events for your favorite characters, which is way faster, and ignore the others because there are a LOT of characters and with every game they multiply). If you just battle the monsters that stand in your way you level up enough to fight the bosses. The EXP scale with the characterlevels, so it's not really possible to overlevel. If underlevelled, the bosses get more challenging, but if you win they give you enough EXP to catch up. I was playing on normal difficulty, but it was pretty easy for me. There are "Easy" and "Very Easy" modes(or as I call them "Game Journalist Mode"). And you are right, there are a lot of trains in the games. In the first game, it's how you get to the places where your "missions" take place. In the second half of CS2 you get an airship.

The story is super long and complex you can only understand everything if you play or watch it to the beginning lol.

A few things. 1: trails of cold steel consists of 4 games and has 2 series before that trails in the sky trillogy and trails from zero and trails to azure who make up a duoligy. 2: cold steel 1 and 2 are absolutely not a wast of time. However since cold steel 3 and 4 got published by a difrent company (nis america instead of xseed games) they have no reason to advertise 1 and 2 wich is why they get shown as unnecessary(since this video is sponsord by nis america). Don't let you full your self playing cold steel 3/4 without cold steel 1 and 2 is a really bad idea! You will mis a lot of needed info and details. 3: in trails every npc has it's own story and devellopment so 5000 party members no. 120 characters with actual devellopment absolutely. But I think Cold_Steel 4 has atleast 45 party members that got develloped during the previous 8 trails games. 4: the reason you never heart of cold steel is because it's a series of jrpgs made by a realy small company (nihon falcom) they don't have there own localization departement wich is why they need to depends on companies like xseed /nisa or clouded leopard for localization in languages besides Japanese. This takes a lot of time because one trails game has around the same amount of text as all lord of the rings + the hobit + all harry potter books combined. That makes it not suprising that localising trails games takes general around 3 years per game.

Trails of Cold Steel is a mini series within a LARGER series called Legend of Heroes which has multiple series (trails in the sky, azure/zero, cold steel and kuro no kiseki). It does have a large cast of people and honeslty, I love the entire series. It's different from other games as the storylines are consecutive and not episodic. The characters grow up over the course of each of the series. And yes, the tutorial sewers and HUGE plot twists are a thing. But there is more than sewers, you get the explore the entire continent over time. Characters from previous series come and go, as it all takes place over a short timeline. The plot twists are huge and keep you coming back but I think that's the best part. Obviously, this is a parody, so I won't nitpick, but I do agree that the first game definitely is lacking in plot until the very end. But there are 5 games in the Cold Trails series. They are all JRPGs and they are long. I think the 2nd, 3rd and 4th games are the best. I haven't played the 5th because it DOES take absolutely forever for them to get dubbed in English. In fact, there are older Legend of Heroes games that are finally being profesionally dubbed but AFTER Cold Steel. The "you won but didn't win" trope gets really bad in Game 2. Many of the sidequests, AP, fishing, recipes..thats optional. You don't have to do them, and I didn't bother with them the first time around. Fun fact: The voice of Rean Schwarzer (the main character) in this parody is the actual voice in the game series. So are the voices for Altina and Machias. No, Rean is not an Ogre. That is not the twist. And yes, this series has Mechs. It's awesome. Also you SHOULD NOT start with the 3rd game. You would be completely lost. I did that and it did not work out. You really do need to play them all to understand, it's a consecutive series. Or at least, watch a video synopsis of game 1 and start with game 2.

If you are going to watch 'Miles is a Robot' at some point, you have to watch 'Miles is on Fire' first, because they are playing Ace Attorney Investigations 1 and 2 in those series and the robot one is them playing the sequel. Also, the whole thing of you losing the battle even if you beat the boss without taking damage isn't because Coldsteel is a broken game, that's just a thing that some JRPG's do where they retcon your victory to show you how powerful an enemy is, like in KH1 where you can defeat Leon when you first encounter him, but Sora still passes out afterwards. Then again I've never played Coldsteel so I can't actually speak for how broken or not the game is :P

You should really play Persona 5 Royal! It's one of my favourite games of all time and I would love to see your reaction to it! Also, the Phantom Thieves do actually steal stuff. They steal stuff from the dungeons and when when they say they'll "steal your heart" they mean it literally. They steal the distorted desires of criminals and abusers to give them clarity and 'change their heart' and a boss battle is usually involved. The morally grey stuff comes from how a lot of people see this as brainwashing. So you weren't wrong about them stealing stuff. If you're worried about grinding, don't be. In my experience, you don't have to unless you want to. I reached the maximum level without trying while wrapping up the last few sidequests/Requests right before the final boss and if I struggled in battle, I didn't struggle because of my level. I only grinded twice throughout the whole approximately 120 hours playthrough and that's because I wanted to. (Once at the start of the game to get an ability I wanted for the first boss battle and once near the middle to get materials to craft a really good item as soon as it was available. It wouldn't have affected my playthrough much if I skipped these grinding sessions.) Just don't run from every enemy and you'll be fine. The game is more about time management anyway and with how many save files you're given, you can easily just save before doing an action you're not sure about and load your file if you regret it. Because of this, grinding your social stats (the stank stats you were concerned over) doesn't feel like grinding and you get funny scenes while doing it too! Also, the game will tell you if you can't do something because your social stats aren't high enough and wont waste your in-game time in the process. The worst thing you can lose is a funny dialogue option. So yeah, play Persona 5 Royal, even in just your free time if you don't want to stream it. I highly recommend this game and from what I've seen of your tastes, I think you'd really like it!

Satire like this is not recommended for someone that hadn't first played Persona 5. I've finished Cold Steel 3 and 4. There's a few things in the games that would've annoyed me if it weren't for the execution. The games don't have a single party member that is there the whole game... but as a result they teach you to experiment with everyone. As for the forced loss battles that Jello mocked, clearly the dev team knew how aggravating it would be to have all the crucial battles be scripted because they add achievements for you to do during the fights and earn some bonus points so you can at least be motivated to press on. Sadly, there are two things that are as dumb as they sound in the video. Firstly, the permanently missable quests. I already hate the time management in Persona, but the Cold Steel games take things one step further by making it completely impossible to get all not-social links in one playthrough, just to give one example of how completing them can feel. My only other gripe was that one card battle from Cold Steel 3. After having beating the opponent shown in the video, he gives you the information he promised, leaves and your allies notice that he had a perfect deck and just let you win/went easy on you. Rean in the video really summarized my feelings on the situation.
